Adam Platt on Returning to Restaurants in NYC

"A stylish vegetarian destination in the Village known for lemongrass-scented mocktails and cauliflower steamed buns, it cultivated a niche of vegetarian sophisticates but was forced to close during the pandemic after landlords pressed for rent and much of its clientele decamped to second homes; the owner described handing in the keys as the carryout, premium faux-meat model proved unworkable in the sudden collapse of regular foot traffic." - Adam Platt

Updated: Nix did an average job overall at my newly constructed home and I would not recommend them as they have poor customer relations & attention to detail. They neglected to label 3 of the 8 ethernet lines & 1 of the 12 speaker wall panels were missing the wiring. I called to get them to come out to complete the job and their assistant told me they don't always label their wiring and for me to file a warranty claim via the builder or they could come out asap and redo their work and charge me again for it. As of now, Nix is not cooperating the builder to complete the job or take responsibility.

We are going into our 10th year in our home that we had custom built. Our builder had used Nix to supply a beautiful 6 panel Mahogany front door. I am not a current customer and only a prior customer by default (through my builder). Yesterday, June 3, 2020, I had reached out to Nix Door and asked if I could borrow a front door while I resurface the finish on my existing door. Without hesitation Greg had asked for a few measurements, hinge locations, bore for the latch and the size of the door. He let me borrow the door for as long as I needed it for. So after about 10 years and using a marine spar varnish on my Mahogany door and completing yearly door maintenance. The door has very minor cracking at the seems and a few on the raised panels. Those cracks are about 1/32". If I hadn't used a substandard top coat two years ago I wouldn't have had to remove the finish at all. The door faces the South West (almost the worst direction for any door). My Mahogany door still looks amazing after 10 years from Nix with the exception of the minor damage from the sun. After this finish I expect to get another 7 - 10 years out of it. If not Nix Door is where I'll find our new door. Talk about customer service. Something that has seemed to have disappeared from many companies. But not at Nix Door and Hardware. Greg quickly called me back even though I was not a customer and I wanted to borrow a door from them. As a potential future customer, this speaks volumes as to what the staff are like at Nix Door and Hardware. Oh and I was expecting a hollow core door. What I got was an actual exterior (really nice) door. My wife was more at ease knowing that the temporary door has the same security as our actual door. If you are in the market for doors, windows, sky lights, fire places and door hardware and I thought I saw cabinet hardware there too, you really need to check them out. The quality looked from upper mid range to high quality, depending on your budget. Thanks again Greg and Nix Door. Here is an update on the refinished door. As you can see, the door is still in immaculate condition after almost 10 years. Keep in mind that I performed regular maitenance on the original finish. But being that the door faces the Southwest the sun will be brutal on any door. Most doors may only make it 5 years. This is a great testament to the quality of material and cratmenship that goes into the products one can find at Nix Door. The photos are of my reserfaced , almost 10 year old door, that I finished on June 15, 2020. Thanks again Greg and Nix Door.

We had a bad noise issue with the fan in our year old beautiful LED electric heat fireplace. Today, Adrian Hernandez came out and replaced the fan and we're back in business. Nice and quiet operation. I want to personally point out that Adrian provided the best customer service that I have seen in a long time. He gave us a call one hour prior to his arrival as requested. He was friendly, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. He made the changeout within an hour, answered all of our questions, cleaned the glass and area when he was done. I'm in a service business and he is the type of tech that any company would greatly benefit from. Thanks NIX for sending Adrian today.

Scheduled an early as possible appointment and received a phone call that Adrian would be at my home in approximately 30 minutes. Adrian arrived almost to the minute. He spent just a few minutes diagnosing the problem and was able to fix in just seconds. VERY courteous young man and very careful to vacuum and clean area where he worked on my fireplace. Highly recommend Adrian with Nix to respond and repair a gas fireplace insert. Thank you soo much Adrian!!!

We received great service from Adrian. We just moved into a home we are renovating and we called Nix. We were scheduled in very quickly to have the gas fireplace checked out. Adrian was able to clean, service, start up and give us information about our unit. Great customer service all the way from scheduling to completion.

We had a blower installed in our fireplace. Hunter did any outstanding job. Hunter was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. I am glad we had Nix do the installation.

Danny Chavez was our service technician, and he diagnosed our issues with courtesy and professionalism. He installed our new doorbell and made sure we had the proper services that we need for protecting our home. Thank you Danny…🇺🇸🙏🏻

Writing this more pertaining to a single employee and installer, not pertaining to the Nix as a company. Hunter Meier did our installations and went above and beyond when he was on-site to ensure we were satisfied. He also helped fill the gap for other installers and made sure we were pleased at the end of the day. Great employee and even better experience working with him.

Yelp
Have an amazing assortment of cabinet hardware, doors, and great stuff for home. Can't find hardware such as they offer at any box store

Yelp
0 stars for the customer service rep who was dishonest. 3 stars for Melissa finding a solution for us to receive our door. 0 stars for quality of door upon arrival (black glue all over the glass, was told it would easily sand off and it will not, $1200 door should not come in this condition) 0 stars for installation, they damaged the header. While the did have someone come out to repair, we're now left waiting for a response from Nix on who will complete the repair with caulk and paint needed. 0 stars for communication, several phone calls to Melissa, I've spoken to Charles as well. Still waiting on a response. I'll update this review if the company does what is right and rectifies our situation. Until then, I'd recommend finding a different company for your door needs. Nix is not recommended.

Yelp
We purchased a house from Lennar Homebuilders in the Bridgewater community in March 2024. NIX installed our electric fireplace in our living room as a subcontractor for Lennar. When we had been in the home, for six weeks, my family and I were watching TV and we heard a cracking noise and looked over and the interior glass on the fireplace shattered (this piece is locked into place behind the glass piece that we have access to). When we immediately reported this to Lennar, they told us that NIX can cover it under warranty and to reach out to them. We have been playing phone tag for Diamond for a month and finally we were able to discuss this situation today via phone. Diamond and her boss, Josh Allison, stated that the secondary glass piece is not under warranty and essentially we have to replace the entire fireplace at our own expense. WHY? Why do we who just purchased a brand new $400,000 home have to replace a brand new fireplace when the outside of the glass is not broken, meaning that we did not damage the glass. The inside glass shattered. How can we not receive a replacement at their cost? Clearly this was a defective item. Even after I explained to Josh at NIX that we never even turned on the fireplace one time since living in the home and we have only been in this brand new home for 3 months, he said it's not his issue and do I want to take money out of his employee's mouths? Huh?! I want my 3 month old fireplace to work and not be shattered like it is and we should not have to pay for defective glass. Josh said that he could not cover the glass because I could have removed the outer piece of glass and damaged the inside and put the outer piece back on. That makes no sense. We didn't even use the fireplace, but he suggests that we would have done all that to create this issue for ourselves and have a broken fireplace and then go through all this to report it. NIX, do the right thing by your consumers and replace your defective glass.

Yelp
I purchased a front door from nix door & hardware and also paid EXTRA to have them hang the door and haul off the existing door. Paying extra for them to hang the door was a HUGE mistake. Once the guy hung the door he opened and closed the door a couple of times... the door did not close with ease and you had to slam the top right corner in the door frame... he told me it would "get better" the more I use the door. Now I don't use the front door very often months pass and the door doesn't get any better a matter of fact the screw end up being stripped and coming out of the door completely to reveal TINY TINT screws holding a massive front door. I then contact nix and they tell me there is no warranty and nothing he can do about it. He then tells me to stick toothpicks in the stripped holes and attempted to place the screws back in the door. The fact that they did not care or did not even want to come look at the door and see what they did wrong makes me furious. Attached I have pictures of the tiny tiny tiny screws that are used to hang a front door. I paid extra for a professional to come hang the door which was a terrible mistake. The customer service they might as well not even have any because they did not seem to care whatsoever about my issue. They even tried to tell me I didn't pay to have it hung and I had to go back and find my bank statement to show proof. I do not recommend paying theses "professionals" to hang the door if you make the terrible mistake of buying a door from them.

Yelp
Let me bullet point out a time line. We picked out a door with Kimberly in Oct 2021 She was reminded by the builder we needed to finally install the door 7/22 She ordered the door supposedly 8/2/22. And they say the door we pick is not coming stained it is raw wood, but they showed a pic of a stained door. It is now 9/20 we have no door and no date to install, and when the builder calls they don't know where the door is at? I have text messages to Kimberly and emails to her boss Greg to prove every point in this review. I would not do business with this company. They have my money because the builder paid them already. The sad part is all I want is my door......

Yelp
Hunter from Nix Door came out this morning to look at our fireplace. He fixed it and even told us several things we never knew to take better care of it. It was a great experience and he was a breath of fresh air. Quality work with a terrific attitude! Ask for Hunter if you call Nix to do work at your home.

Yelp
Walked in to buy hardware for my kitchen. Waited 20 minutes picked out exactly what I wanted and just needed to place and order and wasn't even greeted. Owner (I assume) and lady who worked at the front talked to a couple the whole time why I just stood there. After 20 minutes I just walked out. Save your $ and time to a company who actually deserves it

Yelp
Our Builder left us with a list of Providers who had installed items in the home should we need to follow up down the road. Our gas fireplace is having trouble starting, so we contacted Nix. A "technician" came out, and could not give us a diagnosis, said he would need to speak with supervisor. $195 for the visit to our home. I called office to follow up, they said they would get back to us. I called office again over a week after visit, they said they would look into it and call me back. Three weeks now and still no word. We are out $195 for no diagnosis, no repair, no parts, no referral, nothing but a late appointment to our home. I gave them one star so that I might post comment- they don't deserve that star. But I want to caution anyone before doing business with them.

Yelp
Horrible customer service and installation process on a replacement front door. Calls went unreturned, door was dinged and still hasn't been fixed as promised, and the installers were unprofessional and not competent. Very surprising from this business. Our sales rep or the customer service manager could not be bothered with returning messages, fixing our issues or even apologizing. Please find another business to support and stay far away from Nix!

James B.

Yelp
If I could leave them a 0 star I would. We ordered 3 doors on June 10 and it is now August 25th and tgey are finally delivered. However the rating is not based on the delivery but the fact theat they constantly lied about delivery, production, installation and delivered the wrong door in the first place with all three doors having no Jams. I was lied to by Charles, Mellissa, and Brad. Please find yourself a honest company that you can trust that you will get what you paid for

Yelp
This place is horrible! Several missed appointments to install our fireplace. We also bought our exterior doors from them. They are custom. So they built the frames for them. The gaps are huge, so much that we can't get the door to latch closed. While someone else did install the frames. Originally they built them the wrong heights (we have hand scrapped wood floors). So when the doors wouldn't close with a sweep on them, I called the company spoke with the gentleman I had been dealing with. He told me it was my problem because the didn't install the frames. Then wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount of money to rip them out and reinstall them. I passed on that. Now the gaps are a problem and when the actual doors were put on the jig for the cut outs for hardware they jig was off. So we are having to chisel and fix that too! Almost ten grand on doors and complete crap service and mediocre product! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL SCREW YOU!

Yelp
Lazy! Asked them to do a simple job of building new window screens for my home. Here is the e-mail message I received: "Good morning, I wanted to let you know that, unfortunately, we are unable to get the kind of screens you are needing, and will be unable to help you with this." All I wanted were simple aluminum frames with metal screens. This goes along with another experience I had with this company a few years back. I found them lazy back then too.

Yelp
I highly do not recommend Nix door and hardware. We have nothing but issues with them over the last year with our new home build. Our fireplace was not installed to code and we have smoke that leaks back into our house. Every time they come out they try putting blame on the manufacture of the fireplace and won't take any responsibility on there end for poor install. It is a endless battle that is still unresolved. We also decided to go with there home security which was another big mistake. For the last year we have been told that our cameras don't work because we had Cierra net for our internet provider. Spectrum became available and we have had that for several months and the cameras still don't work. Every time there technicians come to the house they say the same thing, "it's your internet" and now we have high speed fiber optic. When asked what speed of internet we need they don't answer the question. We have tried talking to Daniel which is in charge of that division and he is super rude and started raising his voice to my wife when she was trying to find out what internet speed we needed. And to top it off when they installed the doors in our house they put ones in that had broken corners and scratches. Long story short don't waste your time with this company.

Yelp
Went to Nix looking for doors and the selection is almost overwhelming they have so many beautiful doors. Customer service was great and very friendly. Sales people are very knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend to my friends.

Yelp
. This was the most unbelievable, frustrating company I have ever dealt with. After spending over 10k with them the owner refused to ever speak to me to solve any issues. They missed a bldg code for the fireplace venting which was clearly on my plan then without asking decided to vent it on the front of my house next to my front door. (Ugly metal pipe) they acknowledged their mistake and said they would pay for the damage. Then with no forewarning charged me a ridiculous amount extra for the piping . When I confronted the owner she emailed me an adjusted bill where she now DOUBLED the cost of the pipe and then subtracted what she would pay for the roof repair. (less than it cost) When I had a problem with it creating soot and flashing back the manufacturer advised that it be looked at. She refused to stand behind her work in any way even though it had been just installed. worse yet , they expected payment in full before they were done and started the process to file a lien affidavit on our home to stop our closing. Wish I had check the other reviews of others with similar experiences.
