We had a solid stay at the NJV Athens Plaza Hotel. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of downtown Athens, just steps from Parliament and Syntagma Square. We even got to watch the grand Sunday changing of the guards, which was such a special experience. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and generous, and although the hotel is a bit older, it’s kept relatively clean. The staff was polite enough—not overly warm, but certainly not rude.
That said, a few things could be improved. They only offer two small complimentary bottles of water, no matter how many nights you’re staying, which felt a bit stingy—especially given the summer heat and how generous other hotels in Greece were in this regard. The towels were rough and the beds weren’t very comfortable, likely due to older spring mattresses that could really use an upgrade.
Also, we found it a bit odd that all the lobby furniture was extremely low to the ground, making it an uninviting place to sit and relax, especially when waiting for your room to be ready.
All in all, it was a convenient and decent stay, and the location truly makes it worth it, though there’s definitely room for improvement in comfort and amenities.
