I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at NLH Monastiraki Hotel in Athens.
I had booked the Grand Loft Suite with Balcony, but upon arrival, the room we received reeked of cigarette smoke, despite the hotel’s policy clearly stating that smoking is not allowed in rooms. After complaining to the front desk, they simply sprayed air freshener and claimed the issue was resolved – which it absolutely wasn’t. We refused to stay in that room.
They then offered us an alternative room, which also smelled strongly of smoke. At no point were we offered a smoke-free room, nor were we assisted in finding alternative accommodations. The only thing the hotel did was offer a full refund – by then it was already 4 PM on the day of our check-in.
We were left with no choice but to search for a last-minute room on our own to salvage our vacation.
This experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and unacceptable, especially from a hotel that advertises itself as non-smoking.
Based on our experience, I strongly do not recommend staying at this hotel.
That said, the location is very convenient, and for those who are not sensitive to smoke or don’t mind these issues, it might still be worth considering.
