On the Grid : No Fire No Glory

"Is your morning coffee the only way to ignite your fire? There is no shame in that, and no glory apparently if you don’t get your cup from this buzzy Kaffee bar. Beans are freshly roasted and you can expect Grade A latte art from any of the baristas that work there. Obviously where there is good coffee there are also wood-topped tables and hanging lamps to sip amongst." - Gabby Lord

No Fire No Glory No Service: the WORST I have experienced in Berlin, as other recent reviews also state. Teenage waiters who preferred to film coffee pour-overs behind the counter for Instagram content, rather than serving multiple customers going up to order — before eventually telling them they should wait at their table for their order. We waited 10 minutes to be served, 27 minutes for a very mediocre flat white and cold espresso, and about an extra 20 minutes for food - the pancakes which, apparently, took so long because they had to be “cooked well enough to be fluffed up.” Poached eggs were overdone, pancakes were overly starchy, and menu is pretty underwhelming - so certainly not worth the wait. Multiple tables waiting for food, no sense of urgency to actually provide a service to customers, and staff roaming around with no idea of what table ordered what. Other tables served food and coffee before us, despite ordering after we did. And this was on a FRIDAY at 2pm, so hardly the Sunday brunch rush… Don’t let the ‘cool’ hype fool you; go somewhere else. There are MUCH better places in the neighbourhood without the hipster price tag.

Service was super slow, it took around ~10 minutes just to take our order, where the condition was quite empty and another ~35 minutes just for the drinks (we ordered coffee frappe and cappuccino) to be served and had to wait for additional ~15 minutes for the food (we ordered beef pulled benedict and french toast) to be served, we had to ask literally for it, which in total we waited almost an hour for the food, and what made it worse was, the other person who just had ordered, their food came first than ours. The food was just okay, nothing special, for me personally, there's nothing that will make me come back, at least until they fix their service time, couldn't imagine if it was a busy hour. There are other options in the same neighborhood.

My recent visit to No Fire No Glory was unfortunately marred by exceptionally poor service, even by Berlin standards. We waited approximately ten minutes for drink orders, followed by another twenty minutes with no food order taken nor acknowledged. What truly added the our frustration was observing customers who arrived after us not only place their orders, but also receive their food before we even had a chance to order. We then decided to leave and literally go next door. Within 15 minutes of the place next door (44 Brekkie at the time of this review) we were seated, took our order, and served food. While the coffee was decent at No Fire No Glory, it hardly stands out in Berlin's competitive scene (44 Brekkie which doesn’t even specialize in coffee was on par with this spot). Ultimately, without the opportunity to order, the culinary merits remain unknown. Until service significantly improves, I'd suggest exploring other dining options in Berlin.

I had French toast here. Its surface is crispy but soft inside. I like it 😊 a nice restaurant to have brunch.

Google
A really cute place in an amazing neighborhood manned by excellent staff who deliver your wishes on a plate with a smile. The outdoor setup available for a coffee date or a work meeting. I was there with my colleagues for a work meeting and completely enjoyed the set up and the beautiful hearts that came with our cappuccinos.❤️ Loved the French toast too. The crispy caramelized sugar added an excellent crunch to each bite! Will definitely visit again!

Google
Amazing place in a really nice neighborhood! Enjoyed our breakfast here a lot, definitely recommend pancakes and BBQ pulled beef Benedict. I think best in the neighborhood so far. Coffee is very tasty as well. Finally a place that serves cold brew tonic 😍

We had the bomb (pancakes, eggs and bacon). I dont like coffee so my maple ess regular and not “coffee infused”. The pink peppercorns were a nice surprise. My husband said the capuccino was one of the best he had in Berlin.

Food was super tasty. Nice coffee too. Friendly staff. Warm and cosy atmosphere, highly recommended

Yelp
Nice lemonade, great coffee. The room in the back is a great alternative for too-hot-outside days and it is not nearly sought after as the louder one in the front.

Yelp
Low rating because of bad place to work or get WiFi. You can only use it 30min and for that you give up your social media data (they even ask for posting stuff on their own, if you look closely). As if that's not enough, they then force you to Like their freaking page so you get spammed from them. Dude, I'm only here for a coffee and a quick internet session! Other than that: coffe/cakes are tasty and everyone (staff and guests) are expats.

Yelp
No fire no glory indeed. I needed a little heat to get me off my ass and taste the glory of the coffee here. This coffee place was on the top of my list of coffee places to try in Berlin. And though it was good. It wasn't amazing because frankly I don't really remember how it tasted. But the barista was very nice and the outdoor seating was fantastic, so 4 stars. Would come again if it weren't so far from where I lived.

Yelp
One of Berlin's top specialty coffee shops! Excellent coffee (beans from Copenhagen's famous The Coffee Collective) and delicious cakes to try. Beautiful, cozy place with enough seats inside+outside. They also offer very good breakfast/brunch, and have coffee accessories for sale, including the famous (and expensive) handmade Comandante coffee grinders. Kees Van Der Westen Spirit Triplette espresso machine.

Yelp
Loved the place! Really great food (we had the pumpkin spread bread and eggs benedict) and super sweet service. Also had coffee and 2 cakes, all were great. It is cozy and chic. Would recommend!

Yelp
Quaint neighborhood coffee house located just outside the mitte border. I came here to attend a yelp event and so I can't say if the coffee is good or not. The staff was very friendly and the place was charming. Prices were excellent!! Parking can be bad but I took the streetcar in. The place closes early at 8, which is a bummer.

Yelp
I stopped by for a quick breakfast and had the most amazing croissant. The cashier oversold and apologized as we needed to wait 20 minutes for her to freshly bake the croissant. The outside was thinly crispy and lightly caramalized and the dough was so moist and not too buttery. I got ham and cheese inside and the it was not too salty. While I waited, I ordered the custard tart which was a perfect delight. What an excellent start to the day!

Yelp
When I first moved to Berlin, No fire no glory was my regular place to go for a coffee fix. Somehow I stopped going, which is stupid, because the coffee is as good as it comes - and it's also a great place to bring a book or a little work. They'll brew up a pot of v60 style coffee on beans from Copenhagens Coffee Collective, and you can also choose to grab a bag from Five Elephant to bring home.. There's usually aussies working behind the counter, and while you can certainly hear hem, they're not many enough - meaning you will have to be patient during peak hours, as it can take a little while before the coffee is delivered to your table. But since the coffee is so great, you'll quickly forgive.. There's cakes, bagels and free wi-fi too. Password changes regularly, so always ask.

Yelp
Every time I'm here, they have an attitude problem. It's almost as if No Fire No Glory wants to be hipster so bad that they also feel like they have to incorporate the worst part of the hipster persona: the arrogant attitude. Once the guy behind the counter (sorry, barista!) felt it absolutely necessary to speak English even though he was obviously GERMAN. Whatevs, dude. Whatevs indeed. You see, the food in here is really good. Their croissant are a buttery sweetness and the yoghurt is healthy paradise. As you might be able to tell, I always have the breakfast in here and y to the e to the s. Next stop, lunch?

Yelp
Java, espresso, Customized, made to-order. For coffee lovers.

Yelp
"The beard signifies the apex of self-alienation that the modern world has bestowed upon itself in the wake of the failure of the worker's revolution" - Jacques Derrida There was a reason for including this "quote" in my review but I must've forgotten it, as I fumbled for four euros amid a glistening bag of pickled foreskins that I keep for luck during this age of quarrel. The cost of a flat white (not including the trail of dead civilizations that mar South America's history like the smell of a rotting possum) incurred a wrath within me unfelt since my trumpet betrayed me during a sweaty cuddle with my typewriter. I would only recommend this place if you're in favour of knocking down a happiness factory because you want to build a house of chocolate toothpicks, just because you hate the locals. Avoid like a void.

Lesar K.

Yelp
The service is not prompt thats why i gave 4 stars, we have to wait for the menu and also for the foods more than it should be. You can choose the breakfast options with the egg, tastes are good, prices are average. Around the cafe there is a street market which you can enjoy. And here is close to MauerPark where you can enjoy a lot.
google avatar

Charlotte H.

Yelp
I saw a previous review complaining that the barista speaks English. Me? I like that, because my German sucks. The coffee is pretty decent, too. The place is cute. And the pastry is tasty. I even understand why the wifi access is limited to 30 minutes. BUT THE BARISTA CHUCKLED when I ordered a latte instead of a fancy drip coffee coming from 3 different kinds of coffee beans. Come on, it's just freaking coffee. I didn't pay for this attitude, especially before my first coffee of the day!

Daniel B.

Yelp
No fire no service We were here for 20 minutes and asked twice if someone could take our order. Both times we were told someone would come, but nobody did. They obviously have a lot of good things going on, so it's weird they don't have their shit together when it comes to giving people food.

Yelp
Good coffee and fresh juices, terrible Internet and Internet policy. As a cafe this place is great, the beans are well roasted, the coffee is delicious and packed with flavor. They also have a good selection of fruit and vegetable juices if your feeling like purging your colon after a night of binge drinking. However, their Internet is terrible. It's slow, only lasts thirty minutes and they force you to log into your Facebook or Twitter account to use it. They make you check in on Facebook and like their page, or on Twitter it activates an app that let's them post on your behalf, view all your tweets and add followers. Your only other option is to join their mailing list and be forced to get emails from them. Not to mention after jumping through all of these hoops, your connection is only 1.5mbs a second and cuts off after a half hour! Come here if you want a good coffee and juice, but this place is don't good for those who want to do work in a cafe at all. If you want to get some work done, in a quieter setting just go right across the street. Cafe Seeblick has a much faster Internet connection (10mbs), with no time limits and a much better selection of tea.

Yelp
No Fire No Glory is another amazing coffee shop within the Berlin specialty coffee scene. We walked by on a stroll through this neighborhood and the exterior and coffee senses just lurked out in. They offer a huge variety on tasty looking treats but as I was not in the mood for some I didn't know if they had some GF but the ones on display looked mouthwatering. I chose an African filter from Kenya and it was done to projection with an Aeropress. My mum went for a cappuccino and we were happy out enjoying our coffees while catching some afternoon sun. Big plus that the place is nice and spacious and has more than just 2 seats in front the place as most coffee places do.

Elva O.

Yelp
Thin / watery flavorless cappuccino and way overpriced, I understand that the overhead costs of the location make it expensive but wow it's the lousiest quality of coffee I've had regardless of price. Cozy spot though but enough other cafes around. Unless you like incredibly thin and bland coffee I'd not recommend. Also they play music on a very high volume, sitting inside doesn't make sense because of this if you wanna enjoy a conversation or your own thoughts
google avatar

Julie D.

Yelp
Cozy coffee bar with a great staff. Try the coffee collectives in the v60. They also serve cocktails and apparently a very tasty hot chocolat! Read all about the Berlin Coffee Society on : http://www.strutterview.com/2012/11/22/berlin-coffee-society/
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
Good coffee and friendly staff, nice atmosphere. This would probably be my everyday spot, but they only give you 30 minutes of free wifi. That's a deal breaker for me, I won't be back. Some people work or study during the day. But not here!

Jana T.

Yelp
Great breakfast. Nice stuff. It's the nicer and emptier version of Alan's breakfast club across the street. Similar food but way faster.
google avatar

Paolo S.

Yelp
Fantastic place. Great coffee, comfortable seating outside and inside, great pastry. They also have a large selection of other drinks, including the best ice tea I've had in Berlin. The bagels are also excellent. In addition to all this, they're happy with you working on a laptop for a long time. I've had some very productive writing sessions here (though in those cases I always ordered more than just a coffee). Be warned though: this is the ultimate hipster stronghold in the hipsterland of Berlin. You'll find ridiculous lines about berries and vanilla and citrus in the coffee menu, waiters with short hair and long unkempt beards, and all sorts of Williamsburgesque humanity buzzing around this place. Me, I love it -- in a way at least. If this makes you uncomfortable, you might look elsewhere. But it's hard to find a place that is this work-friendly and has such good coffee at the same time.
google avatar

Rasmus B.

Yelp
Dedicated to the perfection of coffee they succeed and then some. They have a selection of processes for making your coffee including the hyped cold drip and the classical french press. Select your preferred bean and method of making coffee then enjoy the result.
google avatar

Eggs On Toast ..

Yelp
Definitely not good on weekends: we had to wait what seemed an eternity for our drinks and for a table. Good quality coffee and desserts but overpriced. Also just 30 min wi-fi and you have to give your e-mail to access it! Don't like that.

Génération B.

Yelp
Very average food, super overpriced. The coffee tastes like old socks. The poached eggs were actually hard boiled, the salad was wilted, the dressing was too thick. I'm sad I wasted my money on such a mediocre meal... service was nice enough though. Lots of good places in this area of Berlin, don't waste your cash or your palate on this.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
Very good coffee and great deserts. They are over priced, but if ppl are going to pay the asking price, why not. Friendly service. If I didn't like depeshe mode, this place would freak me out. Also, the 30min wifi limit is BS for the price point.
google avatar

Niki H.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings towards this café: First of all: It's SUPER cosy and the area is amazing. It's also a very calm environment so for me it's a good place to study. The internet is free, but you will have to pay 1.5EUR if you need to plug in your laptop. The staff is friendly and they know their coffee, so coffee lovers will get what they're looking for, super! The hot chocolate was not the best I've had though, and everything is really tiny so you'll get a small cup of coffee/chocolate for the same price you would pay for a HUGE one in many other places with equally good quality. Same goes with the yoghurt, don't expect to still your hunger with the bio vanille yoghurt, it's very tasty, but also VERY small Would I recommend it? For a calm afternoons reading and a good coffee: Yes, definitely. If you're hungry or like big portions? Not really.

Leah H.

Yelp
I came to this place and my first thought was " this looks so nice ". When we sat down the waitress didn't even saw us. We had to go to the bar and order. When we finally got our coffee after an half hour. We liked it but it could've been better. We just ordered simple things as am croissant with coffee and it took an half hour + to get. I assume the waitress was new because it was chaos.

Yelp
Best. Coffee. In. East. Berlin. Period. Only ever had a better espresso at Bonanza Coffee Heroes in Prenzlauer Berg, but this café apparently uses the beans that Bonanza Coffee Heroes roast, and the coffee served at No Fire No Glory is very close in quality.

Juliane K.

Yelp
Overpriced, overrated, rude and arrogant staff. Waited 20 mins for some tea, which they also got wrong and then blamed us for it instead of apologizing. It's a German coffee shop in the German capital but they refuse to speak German.

Mia S.

Yelp
Staff is extremely disorganised, they have no system with table numbers and they easily forget which order is to what table. The kitchen is equally slow if not more. They need to assign a person to each task or a set of tables to a different person working here, it's a bit of a mess and you end up waiting ALOT. Can't review the food yet because I'm still waiting. This rating is assuming it will be worth the wait
google avatar

Kat L.

Yelp
I went here on recommendation but was a little disappointed. The coffee can be great but can also be a little hit and miss - and you usually have to wait a bit (though that seems to be a German thing). The coffee hasn't always been hot or strong enough for me - but coming from Melbourne, I have high standards on coffee (we're spoiled there for amazing coffee). I also feel it's a little overpriced compared to other cafes for a cappuccino or latte. I do like the cafe though and the atmosphere is chilled out. The cakes are delicious though!!
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
If you want to experience the prenzlauer berg families ambiance this is the perfect place. Not sure you're going to like it though. Excellent coffee and pasteis de nata and cool music. You will wait long for your food though and quite high range prices...
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
Exceptional baristas and well-curated coffees. I'm surprised at the four star average--we had a five star experience. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Tasty local espressos and free Wifi. Go Bonanza for a mild latte, and Copenhagen for a more distinctive flavor.
google avatar

Michael Angelo L.

Yelp
I was told by the staff that they close at 6 PM, though they clearly were just putting stuff away. It's 7:38 PM and the hours mentioned here indicates an 8 PM closing time. What's up with that? I just wanted to get something to go, BTW.
google avatar

Dominique S.

Yelp
Even though I live in Charlottenburg, I like to stop by when in Prenzlauer. The staff is very friendly. The prices for coffee are reasonable and I like that one can sit outside in a calm and friendly setting. The outdoor area is set under a large tree that provides shade and tranquility. The cafe itself is trendy, clean and has a rustic comfortable feel.
google avatar

Qype User (jimnka…)

Yelp
Friendly locals cafe with a good vibe. The tea was lovely, as was the lemon tart. A lovely spot to while away an hour or two with a book.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
I am in with the many other reviewers who think this cafe is great. Bonanza Coffee Hero beans (so delicious cappuccino) and nice cozy place to sit in the early dark evenings.
google avatar

Paula D.

Yelp
Great coffee. Comfortable place to work, even on Sundays. Free wifi. Haven't tried the food yet.

Mikeala S.

Yelp
Really cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, wifi, and the coffee is good. What more can you really ask for if you're seeking a solid home base for coffee in such a big city? I was happy with the relaxed atmosphere, but have definitely had just as tasty coffee elsewhere for cheaper.
google avatar

Qype User (susans…)

Yelp
I thought it was actually worth rereviewing this place to get rid of my slur on their flat whites. I had a normal sized and it was simply perfect. Coupled with one of their awesome cakes it was even better.
google avatar

Qype User (louiou…)

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. The cakes were delicious, the place was cozy and the espresso was amazing. Those guys sure enough know their business - definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Qype User (coffee…)

Yelp
I had heard a lot of buzz about no fire no glory. I must admit that these guys got it right! Great cafe feel, great caring staff and tremendous food. Very unpretentious but would have every reason to be given how excellent it is.

Molly V.

Yelp
I went to this place in hopes of finding a nice (wifi) work-spot with specialty coffee. There was a blog article written about their great wifi and tasty coffee. Having come from Copenhagen, I was slightly disappointed to find that they carry a Dainish coffee brand rather than something procured by Germans. Also, as it turned out the wifi access is limited to 30 minutes (it boots you off for an hour after your 30 minutes are up). I got an air filter which cost me a steep 4.90 euro and it tasted no different (in terms of robustness, or flavor profile) from a french press/espresso. Overall I was not flabbergasted by the experience but it was decent and the staff were friendly.

Linh M.

Yelp
I used to make a lot of meetings with my crew there and NoFireNoGlory was our place to go every morning. The environment is sometimes a bit too noisy but okay, they have areas to chill but also high tables where you can work. Beside the great coffee I can recommend the breakfast stuff as well. Definitely one of our favorites in Prenzlauer Berg.

Qype User (waitki…)

Yelp
A friend recommended I try this lovely cafe in Prenzlauer Berg and it did not disappoint. The espresso at No Fire No Glory is lovely: delicious, smooth, and served at the perfect drinking temperature. I had some shots from The Coffee Collective but they serve great coffees from various roasteries. The friendly barista spent and excited half an hour chatting with us about their various brewing implements after serving up a range of delicious caffeinated drinks. They also do single drip or woodneck. Cute staff, great coffee, and food to match. What more do you need?
