American travelers, been to Cheltenham and the Cotswolds many times; first time staying at the No. 38 The Park.||A very, very good experience on all fronts, with only a couple of small "dings" against its' perfect score.||The building and grounds are beautiful, charming, sophisticated, warm and contemporary. The park across the street is convenient and handsome. Shopping and dining in the city center is an easy seven minute walk. Parking is to be found in front of the building, or on the streets around the property.||We stayed in Room 1, which they call "The Outstanding", and it really lived up to its own hype. The bed is perfect, from mattress to the high-thread count linens. I was very happy to find three lovely, soft pillows per person instead of two. Ding number one — when I snuggled deeply into the bedding at night, there was the faint but unmistakeable scent of wet dog in the comforter, pillows, and mattress, as if the guests before us had allowed Fido to sleep in the bed with them. Even after changing linens, that stink doesn't go completely away. But even with that caveat, it really was one of the best beds we've experienced for a long time.||The furnishings in the room and the hotel's common rooms are tasteful, historic, and mostly accommodating (ding number two — with all that space, and all that furniture, a chest of drawers for those staying multiple days would be very helpful). The bathroom is grand, with a dual-waterfall shower bay that's large enough to park a camper van. The wife found a complete Dyson hairdryer in the room, and crisp fresh terry robes were welcome.||Breakfast was perfectly made by multiple chefs, all dishes exceeding expectations. The dining room includes a pretty ivy-walled terrace for use on sunny mornings. Staff is friendly and polite. One of the mornings we were there two sets of guests brought their dogs into the room, and they both started to incessantly bark. I know it may be a surprise to some, but not everyone wants to have their quiet mornings interrupted by your dogs. Leave them in your hotel room, or — even better — leave them at home. But that's not the fault No. 38 The Park directly (though I'd love to see the dog policy changed), and overall they have created a great experience. 4.5 stars out of 5.0.
