The Best Hotels in Cape Town for a Truly Local Stay - AFAR

"Housed in a restored 19th-century residence dating to about 1860 in a quiet Tamboerskloof neighborhood, this intimate guesthouse immerses visitors in the rhythms of local life with 10 neutral-toned rooms featuring black marble fireplaces, Malawi-style wicker chairs, and terraces with intricate balustrades. A street-facing café is popular on weekends for house-made granola and avocado toast, and the property’s proximity to Kloof Street puts guests within easy walking distance of the area’s best restaurants and shops." - Mary Holland

NOAH House, a Design Boutique Hotel Cape Town, South Africa

"The colonial Cape Town-style NOAH House is located in trendy Tamboerskloof, at the foothills of Table Mountain. Guests can relax on two verandas and explore Cape Town, which is a 7-minute drive away. All modern-furnished rooms are decorated with white linen on the beds, a ceiling fan and windows with American shutters. Each room has a TV, a desk and an electric kettle. Some offer views of the garden or Table Mountain. NOAH House serves continental breakfast and guests can choose from a variety of restaurants in the surrounding area. Sights like Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Table Mountain are just a 15-minute drive away. Guests can walk to the city center in 10 minutes, or seek assistance at the tour desk for day trips. Free public parking is available opposite of the property’s entrance." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

I write this with mixed feelings. Noah House is beautiful, well located, quiet and with very comfortable beds. The staff (when they are there, more about that below) are delightful. The breakfast was minimalist but good and beautifully presented. ||But. |I was in the premium room with a balcony, larger than the other rooms. The bedroom has no cupboards at all. There is a clothes rack for hanging clothing in the bathroom, and one modest sized drawer in the bathroom which could be used for clothing. So I lived out of my suitcase, which I have never before had to do, even in a modest hotel. ||There is a desk for business travelers who may need to work on their laptops, but no chair. There is a round backless stool, not ideal. There is no easy chair in the bedroom, so its the bed or the stool if you want to read a book or drink a cup of tea.||There is no tea and coffee station in the room, but it is available in a common area, not great if you are in your jarmies. ||Liquid soap and bodywash is provided, but no hair conditioner, which would have been convenient.||Lapses included a TV, but no remote, and on the second day, no hot water for my morning shower. I sent a WhatsApp to the mobile number provided just after 8pm (to request a remote), to which I received an automated response that I would receive assistance only between 8am and 5pm. (There was no staff at all in the establishment at that time.) So if a geyser burst, or a fire started in the establishment, it would be for the guests to sort out without any ability to contact management. |I am tempted to say, as a Joburger, that that attitude by the owners/management is soooo Cape Town! Whatever, it shows disregard for the guests and I for one will not book there again.

Beautiful building, beautifully appointed, very good breakfast, staff very friendly and obliging, but these issues detracted from my stay: 1. No access to management after 5pm. (No hot water, no remote for my TV, nobody to whom to report those problems. (What if there was a burst geyser, or fire in the building?) 2. No wardrobe for clothing. I do not expect to have to live out of my suitcase at R4600 per night. 3. No proper chair at the desk. The stool is uncomfortable over longer periods. 4. No easy chair in the room, although there was one on the balcony. 5. No tea and coffee in the room. 6. No hair conditioner.

Our recent stay at NOAH house was nothing short of perfection. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally warm and attentive, ensuring every detail was flawless. The room was beautifully designed, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The food was great as well. Every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations, and I look forward to return. Highly recommend!

A beautiful calm and comfortable place to stay in CT. Very happy to return here again. Everything was perfect - brilliant breakfast wonderful white linen, super shower gel etc The only thing we didn’t like was the spotify soundtrack but realise that’s just an opinion!

We had a fantastic stay at this guesthouse in Cape Town. The rooms were clean and cozy, but what truly stood out was the hospitality. Richard and his colleague were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. Highly recommended!

NOAH is a 12 out of 10 stay. The rooms and common areas are in themselves a study of hospitable design, melding beauty with practical, home-like touches to create the ideal base for a Cape Town visit. Tamboerskloof is the ideal neighborhood from which to base a Cape Town stay - with simple access to every destination in and around the city. NOAH's team is incredibly helpful and were pivotal in shaping a lovely 4 night stay. NOAH blends the best of boutique hoteling, luxury, and location to provide the clear choice over any rental flats or institutional hotels. So grateful to have found NOAH and look forward to returning soon!

Slightly disappointed. Room was nice. Location ok. Service ok. Soured milk for afternoon tea. Overpriced for what it is! I never expected that reserving a private car for airport transfer meant going in the personal car of the staff!

We stayed here for a short trip in Cape Town, swayed by the photos on the website and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful rooms and the design throughout a total vibe. Breakfast was simple and delicious, lovely healthy options throughout. Beds super comfy!! We had a tiny issue with our room that was dealt with immediately and with total professionalism by the owners Sarina and Gerald. Would stay here again in a flash.
