The Nobu Ryokan Malibu brings Japanese hospitality to Los Angeles - AFAR

"The on-site sushi-focused restaurant is a major draw for guests, who receive priority access to reservations and can even have dishes delivered to their rooms; the menu makes it difficult to pick a single standout, with highlights including scallop tiradito, salmon sashimi, and a smoked duck with cherry and hibiscus among the memorable items." - Jeremy Saum

Goodness! Where to start. Drinks! Luka did some magic. Food...if it never stopped coming I think all of us at the table would be perfectly fine with that. Hit all of the taste buds and more! We celebrated my birthday and they made it special. Thank you and we will be back!

Upscale and world renowned Japanese restaurant in midtown NYC. Food is really good, have to try king salmon Nigiris and crispy rice spicy tuna. Does are absolutely amazing! I also fell in love with shishito peppers... didn’t care much for the skewers. Finish out with their new doughnuts which were recently Introduced to the menu. Service really good also!!!

Yelp
We had dinner here the other day and although everything was delicious, the prices are quite high. The shiitake salad with lobster was $69. Wow. The miso cod tasted a tad too sweet. The miso cod at Yamagata in Fort lee is much better. For $50 for a piece of fish, they should include a bowl of rice. But it was $4 extra for rice. We ended our meal with the warm donuts and it was delicious.

Yelp
I would recommend you visit downtown Nobu over 57th any day. My girlfriend and I visited this Nobu location because we love the downtown & figured to give this one a shot. We were walk-ins and were quoted 5:30Pm check in for the lounge but were checked in earlier which was amazing! The front host was very kind and attentive Our go to orders are: Yellowtail Jalapeño Sushi x2 - Yellowtail dish - Rock Shrimp - Lobster tempura and their Brussels sprouts which we LOVE The food was good as always and the bussers / servers were kind and clean. Our issue was with our Waitress. After checking in we waited 10-15mins before she came over to take our drinks. We ordered our dishes as well assuming it'd take a while. When our food arrived one of our sushi rolls were missing & drinks never arrived. In the hour we ate to eat she stopped by once. This wouldn't be a problem, but we noticed her checking our surrounding tables 3-4 times each making sure everything was good except ours. We ended up having to ask a server for the check since she decided to walk past us multiple times and continue to ignore our table. Her last check in was with the bill in hand. Our servers asked if we'd like dessert & if everything was well. We were missing a dish and our drinks the entire dinner & lost our appetite for dessert. Nobu has amazing food & fast service. The lounge was beautiful & the vibe was calm. However, I wouldn't see myself visiting 57th again

Yelp
We have been dining at Nobu 57 and in the financial district for more than a decade. We have our favorites but any new try always impress's. There has never been a single meal that has fallen short of spectacular. The service is always 5 stars, no matter who is on your table. The last year or so we have preferred the bar, especially downtown. Here we have an opportunity to speak to chef and really get an awesome dining experience. At 57 you get more of a busy feel, downtown you dine beneath the first floor in an intimate feeling space. Always dimly lit and always playing some sort of incredible jazz like house music. My recommendation is order the omakase with the wine pairing. Its incredibly great.

Yelp
Nobu is, in my opinion, never a miss. I've had the pleasure of dining at several Nobu locations, including Las Vegas (Caesars Palace and the Virgin Hotel), Los Angeles, Malibu, Cabo San Lucas, and New York (both the Financial District and near Times Square). Each visit has been exceptional, with incredible food, outstanding service, and stunning ambiance. My go-to dishes are the spicy tuna crispy rice and the mini tacos--both are absolutely amazing. While many sushi restaurants offer similar items, Nobu elevates them with a unique culinary flair that makes every bite an experience. Their presentation, attention to detail, and creativity set them apart, making it well worth the price. The service at Nobu is truly top-notch. From the moment you arrive, the staff makes you feel welcome and cared for. They are attentive, knowledgeable, and ensure that every detail of your meal is flawless. The impeccable service enhances the overall experience, making it feel special every time. The ambiance is consistently a highlight. Whether you're at the bustling New York Times Square location or the serene Malibu spot, the atmosphere is always elegant and inviting. Every Nobu I've visited delivers on both style and substance. Yes, Nobu is pricey, but you're paying for exceptional quality, fresh ingredients, and an unforgettable dining experience. As a self-proclaimed sushi snob, I can confidently say that Nobu stands out among sushi restaurants for its innovation and precision. Whenever I'm in a city with a Nobu, I make it a point to visit. I've also stayed at the Nobu Hotels in Cabo and Las Vegas and absolutely love the brand's attention to luxury and detail. I'm hoping to make it to Nobu Atlanta someday and stay at their hotel there as well. If you haven't tried Nobu yet, I highly recommend it--wherever you are, it's an experience worth having!

Yelp
For high end dining, Nobu does not disappoint with ambiance and service. Dim intimate lighting and small tables for close conversations and small plates. Servers will change your plates after different dishes so you don't have ceviche juice mixing with your miso cod. Favorite dishes were the Nobu ceviche, black cod miso, crispy rice with spicy tuna, and the strawberry cake. Lobster tempura was breaded too much. Presentations looked great but overall it was not worth $69 for a dish that was mostly breading. Black cod miso was a little too salty but overall ok. Had this before at another authentic Japanese restaurant and Nobu's version was more flavored. Crispy rice with spicy tuna was interesting to see the cubes of crispy rice - great appetizer to share for 2. Nobu ceviche was decent - heavy on the lime juice. Reservations are recommended.

Yelp
Very spacious beautiful restaurant,we had a great table by the window. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu and gave some recommendations. Service was 10/10. The food was good. I think I just had very high expectations, given it is Nobu. The rock shrimp was nothing special. Good. But it was just fried shrimp with spicy mayo. The jalapeño appetizer was very good. I've had one similar. The house roll we got was very good. But again. Nothing extraordinary. I will say my scallop nigiri with the tamponade on the top was outstanding. Over all was just a little underwhelmed. I am glad we went, but I won't make a point to go back. Especially with all the options in NYC.

Yelp
Had a wonderful midday lunch at Nobu 57 to celebrate our anniversary. The ambiance was elegant, the service attentive, and the food exceptional--especially the sushi and Black Cod with Miso. My favorite was the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna! Perfect for a special occasion!

Yelp
We made a reservation here for a double date to celebrate two birthdays. Finding the restaurant was tricky since there were minimal signs directing us, but we eventually made it. Upon arriving, we were greeted by somewhat snobby hostesses who weren't particularly friendly or welcoming, but we decided to brush it off. The atmosphere was dark and intimate, though the space was packed with people. Thankfully, our servers were much more accommodating and attentive, making the dining experience smoother. The menu was well-organized, separating different types of dishes, and our servers recommended we go for family style to try a variety. We went with their suggestion and ordered the following: Cold Dishes: Yellowtail Jalapeño and Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna - Both were absolutely delicious! Packed with flavor and richness. Hot Dishes: Black Cod with Miso and Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce - These were phenomenal! The black cod melted in our mouths, with the burnt skin adding extra flavor. The rock shrimp tempura was a hit--crispy with a zesty kick. Sushi Maki: Shrimp Tempura and Baked Snow Crab - These were a bit underwhelming. The shrimp tempura was bland, and the baked snow crab didn't stand out either--only decent when dipped in soy sauce. Drinks: Piña Martini - It was refreshing after a hot walk to the restaurant, but I've had better drinks elsewhere. Shuko Snacks: Shishito Peppers with Eggplant Chips - Very tasty! We loved the combination, especially with the eggplant chips. Desserts: Assorted Mochi Ice Cream and Buttermilk Donuts with Vanilla Gelato - I loved the mochi, especially the passionfruit, matcha, and black sesame flavors, but the rest of the group wasn't as enthusiastic (likely a texture thing). The donuts were a bit too sweet for me, though we did appreciate the gesture of writing a happy birthday message for the celebrants. Overall, we had a great time, and it was all of our first time trying Nobu. While we enjoyed the experience, given the high price, I might choose a different spot for Japanese fine dining next time. There were definitely some hits and misses, but we're still glad we tried it.

Yelp
Good service, nice ambiance, but mediocre food, especially for the high prices. We came for lunch (party of 3) and ordered a variety of appetizers and a sushi platter to share. The sushi rice texture was very hard and the fish quality was nothing to write home about with thin cuts, yet the bill came out to over $500 with no beverages. I think our favorite item was the grilled edamame because it was very unique and had a nice smoky flavor.

Yelp
Wow amazing experience here at Nobu 57 in terms of the cuisine. Just absolutely breathtaking food. This is what food is all about!! The baby corn with honey truffle was just indescribable, I couldn't stop eating it. I didn't want to stop eating. It was the honey truffle that left me smacking my lips and dancing for joy in my seat. Every dish at this point felt like it was going to be delicious. And it indeed was! I couldn't wrap my brain around the spicy tuna and crispy rice, which had caviar incorporated. The beef toban yaki was absolutely spectacular. I couldn't believe I ate all of it in one sitting. It was bursting with flavor, tender and the perfect amount of zest. I'm not a fan of asparagus but this one will be memorable on sort of changing my mind about it in the moment. There was also a huge mushroom that brought the dish together beautifully. Such great quality of vegetables and meat. The drinks were not what I expected. It could've been better and had more options. But we're decent overall. My partner had the black cod and it was super light, flaky and delicious. Cooked to perfection and was a delight to eat. We came here for a birthday experience but didn't really feel as special nor had attentive service, despite being here on a slow afternoon and not many people dining that particular day. The service we did have did feel rather elegant.

Yelp
Most of the food here was very good. I agree with many people that say the portions are too small. I will say that some of the starters and menu items like the "tacos" that are 1 bite should be priced a little bit more accordingly or just make normal size smaller tacos. Tacos should not be 12$ for a bite I don't care what restaurant you're at. The tacos were drowning in the pico sauce, to the point you didn't even know they were lobster and crab tacos. All I tasted what the pico de gallo sauce The sauce was very good, but I would have preferred to actually taste the crab and lobster. That was a waste of $36. The sticky rice appetizer was also very small, really too small to share. A waste of $40. I get it, these items are big money makers but the cost is really more insulting than the food was good. 5 small cubes of rice and a spoonful of puréed tuna (about the amount of 1 or 2 pieces of sashimi) for $40? I should have just gotten 4 pieces of tuna sashimi. Made no sense. It was good, just not WOW! So good I have to order another one. None of the tacos or any starters were that good that you'd order another of come back for them. The Japanese Mackerel was very good. It was the only item that was so good I orders more. The short rib were 2 small cubes of very fatty beef. It didn't say wagyu beef on the menu for the short rib- so I must suspect that the beef was just cheap fatty beef. I mean, they were mouthfuls of fat. It was not very good and another $40 wasted. So far that's $116 wasted on my $275 check. Almost 1/2 of my check was a waste. The tuna sashimi was about as good as it gets, but nothing so special that id say it was better than any of the higher end sushi restaurants in NYC. Or even some of the lower brow places, if you will. The best thing I had was the miso cod. I get that everywhere and I will say that was the best thing I had. It was $50 and that's about what it costs anywhere. I wasn't thrilled the server charged me $5 for a glass of seltzer after offering it, having not said there's a charge. I live in NYC. I'm totally fine with tap water. But you should let customers know that the SPARKLING TAP WATER from the soda gun at the bar is $5 per glass. Don't ask how many I drank- insert eye roll here. I've been to countless restaurants both higher end as well as not so much, that will gladly give you a all the tap water you can drink, still or sparkling AND let you know if there is a charge per refill. Come on...... at least let me know... it's a sneaky add on "up charge" without telling you. It's poor service. they keep the sushi bar clean while you're eating but it's a little annoying... I'll say the table service might be a little better than the sushi counter. The place is just WAY too frigging loud. The noise in the bar area is nauseating. How anyone can eat in that echo chamber is beyond me. Upstairs isn't any better. So, if you're looking for a VERY EXPENSIVE sushi place for a lovey, reasonably quiet, intimate setting- THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. You can have a conversation at a normal tone. It's just madness. Also, the sound system is terrible. You know they are playing music but all you can hear is thumping bass in the background, no actual music. Needles to say I'm used to the Nobu in Malibu. This one on 57th is nonsense. Pass. No return.

Yelp
Not really sure why people are still coming here. It must be an ambiance thing (not much of it though- crowded and dim) anyway came here to celebrate a birthday and after a $875 bill we were all home sick as hell!!! Definitely got food poisoning. The food was overpriced and apparently undercooked, sushi was probably old I dont know - but we have never been sick after food - we were ALL throwing up for 2 days. 1 star because the drinks were ok. Just ok

Yelp
Warm atmosphere with very attentive staff. I am not so sure with the food, some were good, the others, I am not too impressed about, and very pricey for me. Beef Tobanyaki tasted like our Filipino "bistek"... only that the tobanyaki used steak instead of the beef meat you would use for stew. The steak was really good, I got it medium rare and it was done to my liking. Chicken teriyaki was soft and moist and I love how they made the teriyaki sauce. Squid "pasta" was not actually pasta but squid cut into penne-like size and sauteed with vegetables. It tasted like the vegetables were grilled. This was exceptional. All the sushi we ordered were satisfactory. I do think I did not get my money's worth with this restaurant.

Yelp
Hit Nobu for a date night and had an amazing experience. We got the salmon nigiri and a roll of salmon and avocado. Both were super high-quality and you could taste the freshness of the salmon which just melted in your mouth like butter. If you're looking for the best sushi in New York, look no further!

Yelp
Everything was so delicious! Every single dish was flavorful beyond words. My favorite dish was the Black Cod with miso and the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna. The service was good. My only small nit is that the waiter forgot about the birthday request when bringing out our dessert. Typically not a big deal, but I did provide the name for the bday twice in advance. Otherwise, everything else was excellent! Cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Amazing. Best birthday ever! Always great service. It's a bit dark to take pics. But I did my best to capture the amazing food. Eat bite is like AC explosion of flavor. Presentation is lovely. It's a splurge to dine a this place. Dinner for 2 can easily run $500 but so worth it.

Yelp
Fabulous food options!! Wonderful wait staff!! The seafood soup was to die for!! A bit over priced as most everything is of tapas proportion with entree pricing. Bring your wallet for a great meal.

Yelp
Mediocre and shit service. Wouldn't recommend. Classic NYC ripoff. Food was good. California roll was good, but not worth its price. Best thing we had was the mushroom soup. Wouldn't go again.

Yelp
Nobu is best suited for business dinners or for celebrations, as the service and ambiance are phenomenal and luxurious, but the food leaves much to be desired. We came for a friend's birthday with a reservation for 4 people for dinner, and we were seated promptly. Drink orders were taken quickly and served just as fast, and the waitress offered suggestions for the number of dishes recommended for our party. Food-wise, the black cod with miso is a popular dish here so we had to try it. The texture was flaky, and flavor mild and pleasant. The squid "pasta" was also creative, with the squid cut and scored to the shape of pasta. The raw dishes, however, were lackluster (coming from an avid sushi eater). The tuna tartare was a textural nightmare. It was mush, and drowned in the wasabi/soy "sauce". It could have benefitted from being paired with some type of chip to add some texture to this baby food-esque mess. The toro & scallion roll ended our meal. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, but for $22, I've had toro rolls that were more fresh.
google avatar

Ylleana G.

Yelp
The atmosphere was intimate and warm, and the staff were all friendly and attentive. The food itself was delicious too! Their squid "pasta" was flavorful, and their cut rolls were great. The sashimi was good quality, but honestly, there are other places you can dine with good quality sashimi and a lower price tag. I'd absolutely go for more specialty plates that aren't found in most sushi restaurants instead.

Yelp
I visited Nobu as part of a group corporate event for lunch. It was funny because around lunchtime, it seemed like everyone was there for a corporate event! I got the signature bento box (~$85) and really appreciated the wide variety of food, which included their famous miso black cod. The sashimi was very fresh, and the fish was cooked well, still soft and succulent. I honestly did not finish the full bento because there was a lot of food. The service was fast and attentive. While I could definitely see myself coming here to celebrate a special occasion, it would be an understatement to say it would be hard to come here regularly given upscale pricing :)

Yelp
Nobu 57 was our first meal after arriving in NYC, and it didn't disappoint! We ordered a bottle of wine, then began with Wagyu dumplings and the Rock Shrimp Tempura. So very delicious! After that, my daughter wanted to order sushi, so she selected the Spicy Tuna Roll and a Shrimp Tempura roll. Also very tasty. The restaurant was pretty busy by the time we left. There seemed to be a crowd of after work people. We had a reservation, and I'm certainly glad we did, as there might've been a long wait otherwise.

Yelp
My wife and daughter were looking forward to eating here for my daughter's 21st birthday and they were not disappointed. We had a great family style dinner with some tasty drinks from the bar. My daughter got to order her first drink and get carded. A bit pricey (depending on your budget), but the food a service was great. There was a nice birthday surprise at the end of diner that they did for us.

Yelp
I've heard about Nobu relentlessly when I hear about food in New York, so I had to try when I was going for a birthday trip. My boyfriend and I booked reservations for around 8pm and by the time we came, the place wasn't super busy and the ambiance was very nice. We were led upstairs and to a table near the corner with extra lighting (which I actually preferred as I thought it was too dark for me in the restaurant). After looking at the many options, we ultimately decided to go with the omakase set and had everything decided for us. Dish after dish came out and at first, I was worried that we wouldn't get full, but certainly by the end we were. Every dish had a unique spin on its main piece and the sauces were so fun to try. The wagyu hot pot and miso cod were absolutely my favorites of the night, but I also did love the crispy tuna rice too (although I didn't get a picture of it). At the end of the evening, they also gave me a sweet birthday dessert that was perfectly sweet. Overall, I had an amazing time here and would definitely recommend people to check it out for a special occasion.

Yelp
Where to even start. There were extremely high expectations for this location especially given that it's Nobu. Unfortunately, it did not meet any expectations. We had reservations and the entrance where the hostess was, was a completely mess. No space to stand and very disorganized. Even with a reservation we had to wait and it seemed like at one point they forgot. Seemed confused. Restaurant ambiance was nice no issues there. We were seated and waited roughly 12 min to receive a menu. A bit ridiculous. We actually asked 2 different people. Waiter we had definitely did not want to be there or was having a bad night. Barely checked on us and didn't say much. The miso cod was good but small. No sides. Brussels sprouts were burnt and extremely salty. Chicken teriyaki was cold and disgusting. Teriyaki sauce was very watery and chicken was rubbery with no flavor. Sushi order was not good and did not taste fresh. Plates were dirty as well which was disappointing. This place seems to just be a name more of an experience and taste. Not a great celebratory dinner and first experience.

Yelp
I had an exquisite dining experience at Nobu Fifty Seven! The yellowtail was irresistibly delicious, showcasing the exceptional freshness of their fish. The service was both friendly and prompt, contributing to a perfect evening in our private section, shielded from the noise. The low lighting added to the intimate ambiance, and the selection of wines complemented the perfection of every dish. Highly recommend for a delightful culinary escape!

Yelp
I hadn't been to a Nobu in years and my preconceived notion these days is that it has become a chain and sort of lost its luster of being the "it" place when it comes to sushi. I mean a quick google search informed me that Nobu now has over 50 locations worldwide... 50!?!?!?! But that's okay. Nothing lasts forever. All good runs must end at some point... I mean even Kobe had to announce his retirement a month into his final season because he needed to take the heat off of him playing so bad lol. Father time truly is undefeated. Needless to say, I walked in here with low expectations and fe- Wait. Do you hear that...? Oh my god...is that the Undertakers music!?!?! NOBU MADE ME EAT EVERY LAST WORD OF DOUBT, MAKING ME RETHINK IF FATHER TIME STILL HAS THAT 0 NEXT TO HIS RECORD. The quality of ingredients in here was a great reminder that there are levels to this game, and Nobu is on the top level. I won't go into great detail on any one dish because everything was so good, but the must haves are the Toro Tartare with Caviar, Yellowtail Jalapeño, Crispy Rice w Spicy Tuna, and the Black Cod. Okay you know what, I need to go into great detail about the yellowtail jalapeño. It was the best cut of fish I have had outside of Japan, likely because of the sauce. It took every bone in my body to not pick up the plate and drink the remaining sauce from the plate like it was the milk left over in my bowl of fruit loops. I need to shout out my boy Darryl who was SO consistent in refilling my water right as it got to a dangerously low level and for bussing the tables between every course. His timing and precision were insane. Precision beats power and timing beats speed. The attention to detail here is nuts. I will close with a quote from the great Roy Jones Jr: Y'ALL MUST HAVE FORGOT! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Yelp
Awesome food and equally awesome service. We were in NYC for a special event and want some good sushi and Japanese food. Nobu Fifty Seven knocked it out of the park!!

Yelp
Made a reservation online to take my first born as an early 18th birthday/graduation celebration. We shared the spicy tuna roll, yellowtail tacos and do the classic bento box. It was more than enough and we even had some leftovers to crack on. Service was great, indoor decor and vibe was nice. Definitely a place to go for business or pleasure, but of course it is $$$, but worth the price for special occasions.

Yelp
Big Howard Stern fan. He takes about Nobu. Went to 57th St. restaurant. I had it on my bucket list. Wife and I had 3 appetizers and soup. Was not tasty at all. Thinking, This can't be. Makes no sense. The hipe, wife and I so disappointed. 185.00 dollor and learned a lesson on my part.

Yelp
Don't park at Laz across the street, they damaged my car and said they didn't. Came for lunch and enjoyed every minute! The service was on point, the presentation was spectacular, the taste was amazing. We had the lunch special which was so full of flavor and different textures it was more like a food adventure. First time here and would recommend to anyone looking for something different.

Yelp
First time to Nobu and for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere and service was a 10/10. It is the perfect place for a special evening. However, the food knocks it down a star. I will say that the Japanese eel nigiri and salmon nigiri is probably the best I've ever had - no joke. The crispy tuna was also great. However, the shrimp tempura roll and rock shrimp were average at best. And the "mocktail" was straight mango juice - you'd think a mocktail at Nobu would at least have some flair. At Nobu, you go for the clout and the atmosphere and the food is just a bonus. A solid 4 stars.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed Nobu restaurants, especially for their sushi-focused entrees. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered our usual: +the Signature bento box - this came with toro tartare with caviar, sashimi salad, assorted sushi, black cod with miso, lobster tempura amazu ponzu, tenderloin anticucho, and miso soup +Toro Tartare with Caviar - a la carte +Yellowtail Jalapeno - a la carte +Squid 'Pasta' with Light Garlic Sauce - a la carte +Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce - a la carte; there's an option to coat these on pozu sauce as well +Creamy Spicy Crab Everything was well-presented and fresh. Service was slightly a hit-or-miss; the place does get busy, so the staff seems to have some difficulty in checking in all the parties to ensure that everything is going okay. +tasty sushi-focused entrees +inattentive, overwhelmed staff

Yelp
Nobu is a "No-boo". Vastly disappointing. Perhaps a tired franchise brand a bit long in the tooth. The ambience was nice, so was the service; though the 2-step check-in was a bit hoity toity. The mocktail i tried didn't even try enough - watered-down juice blend void of flavors. The miso soup was "meh-so" soup. The "rice krispy" on a stick with avocado was inventive & delicious. Oysters were pretty good but too expensive. The sushi was neither super fresh nor super tasty. The seabass was good & the miso cod was fishy.& bland. Our dessert bento box with matcha ice cream accompanied by a choco lava cake was the best dish. For $400 (without alcohol), the two of us could have had a much better dinner elsewhere on Manhattan.

Yelp
Sadly - I wasn't overly impressed with this Nobu experience. The entry is kinda sketchy right now for such a fancy place. A weird wrapped door entry that looks like it's under construction with no sign or anything to show you've arrived at Nobu. It was our anniversary and our waiter couldn't be bothered to even say happy anniversary. He barely spoke to us, acted too good for us, and when our sushi arrived he didn't even tell my husband what was what or come to ask if we needed anything the ENTIRE time we ate. We chose edamame to start, a warm spinach and mushroom salad, some yellowtail and toro sashimi and a crab and yellowtail cut roll. My husband had sake and I had a club soda. We were charged twice for club soda when I asked for another and our waiter snidely told us they "don't do refills here". I've never heard of such a thing - for a club soda? We paid $10 for two small glasses of club soda? Weird. When we got the check - he acted put out and had this weird vibe about him. Considering we asked for almost nothing and he never came to check on us or explain the sushi on the plate (I had to for my husband) - he did very little for us and we still left a decent tip. I struggled with it bc he did not deserve it at all - but I used to wait tables so I had a crisis at the table. Lol. Completely off-putting. I expected better from such a supposedly high class restaurant. I've eaten at Nobu in Austin, Scottsdale and Lanai and this was pretty bad. Goes to show how service like this can spoil an experience. It was my husband's first time so it's unfortunate this is going to be his memory. Oh well.

Yelp
I indulged in an amazing lunch today at Nobu Fifty Seven! The restaurant entrance is located on the inner side of a building, so it is hidden at first. However, there are signs with the name on the building, so that's helpful. On the first floor is a small bar section and then upstairs is the main big dining room. The tables are kind of close together, but if you're in the corner booths, you'll have enough personal room. The ambience has a very modern and divine look to it with authentic sushi chefs seen making the dishes. Ambience Rate 10/10. The dishes my boyfriend and I ordered which we shared were the... 1. SIGNATURE BENTO BOX: This was a great deal considering the amount and type of food you're given for $85. It started off with Miso soup which was average. It had a cold part of the bento box which had Toro Tartare with Caviar which was delicious and had a great wasabi taste to it; Sashimi Salad which the fish was soft and flavorful; and Assorted Sushi which had one of the freshest and best fish I've ever tasted. Then it came with a hot part of the box which included Black Cod with Miso which was amazing; Lobster Tempura Amazu Ponzu which was average; and Tenderloin Anticucho which was also nothing special. Overall, this kept me full, I liked how it gave me a chance to try a variety of their popular dishes, and was definitely worth the price. Rate 9/10. 2. Crispy Rice w/spicy tuna: The savory and crunchy rice paired very well with the sauce and fresh tuna that was given. Rate 9/10. 3. Rock Shrimp Tempura w/creamy spicy sauce: Although the sauce had a great spice to it, the dish overall tasted average. Rate 7.5/10. 4. House Special Sushi Roll: This was one of my favorite Nobu dishes because of how well all the different fish mixed together in this sushi roll. Rate 10/10. 5. Lobster Taco & Crab Taco I wouldn't get any of their tacos again since each were $12 and I barely tasted the lobster and the crab in this small bite sized taco. Rate 4/10. The service was great. In addition to our waiter, there were several other waiters who served our dishes to us explaining to us one by one what they were. Service Rate 10/10. The prices were expected for the high quality fish you're being served. The only thing that wasn't worth the price were the tacos like I said. In terms of dress code, for lunch at least, it's nothing fancy. I wore jean shorts and a crop top, while my boyfriend wore a t-shirt and khaki shorts. My reservation was @ 1:30 pm and I got there 30 minutes early, and they were nice enough to take me in early, so I really appreciated that. That said, even though I went during lunch time on a regular Tuesday, the place was still packed. So if you're the type who wants a more calming and quieter eating experience, I would recommend making an earlier lunch reservation. Overall, I would 100% go back to Nobu due to the fantastic first experience I had today!

Yelp
The food was just ok. We went there before going to the show. The main problem was they seemed to not want to wait on us. We were promptly seated but totally ignored for quite some time. The waiter seemed more interested in clearing the table of the people next to us and around us before giving us menus. We finally asked the hostess for menus and she actually also took our order. When my food came out the cauliflower tempura was cold and no longer crispy (if it ever was) however the shrimp tempura sushi roll although cold had spots of crispness. My friend enjoyed the yellowtail jalepeño and liked her miso cod fish although felt it was on the small side.

Yelp
Overpriced and underserved. I understand location means everything since it's located on billionaire row 57th street but why the steep price when the quality is not there? We ordered three lunch boxes and for the price of them I couldn't believe I was served half a California roll in one of them . I appreciated the meat out of the lobster to save me the effort but still a hefty price. Most sushi places will serve you tea but the only option here was to pay for it for a one person pot. Miso soup was good and ginger was freshly grated. Overall, not sure if I would come back.

Yelp
I need to go again to say definitely if i think Nobu is worth the money and hype. But i would go back just for the toro tartar with cavier because THAT WAS BOMB. So flavorful and literallyyyy melts in your mouth. The uni was so good too omg. Cod with miso was also cooked super well. The squid 'pasta' as they inform you is not pasta it is just cut up squid and veggies. Nothing special here though the squid was pretty good and chewy. The shishito peppers were also good some more salted than others but could've passed on both of these dishes. Ambiance is so nice for a date night or lots of people seemed to be on business dinners. What i did not like was how crowded and loud this place is, which kind of changed the vibe/mood for me. Service was pretty attentive. Drinks were strong enough for me (and asthetically pretty the ones i picked) but not for others haha

Yelp
I can't say enough about the food. Absolutely everything was fresh and amazing. The only thing I wouldn't get again is the tempura vegetables. They were good just not good enough for Nobu prices. The yellowtail jalapeño roll was my absolutely favorite. I don't typically like rolls with the nori paper on the outside but their's was so light and tender. If you love sushi this is the place to go. It's pricey for sure but (to me) worth every damn dime!

Yelp
Nobu is usually one of my favorite restaurants. For a recent trip to NYC celebrating my 40th bday, the experience was a huge let down. The omakase did not deliver. Service is usually great, was slow this time ( sounded like all the regulars were back and a busy night). Some of the highlights were the wagyu beef, cocktails and the dessert, but I've had better omakase and food at several different lower priced places I would pick over this location again. It's going to be awhile before I would order omakase there again...maybe even visit. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and loved the vibe, just not the overall experience you'd expect.

Yelp
TLDR; delicious food with amazing quality and great service. Pricey but the quality is definitely there. Loved anything that was raw fish. Must get the miso black cod!! Nobu is notorious for sushi and I've always wanted to come. There's 2 locations in New York City, both in Manhattan. I came to this one in Midtown for a weekday lunch and it was actually pretty busy inside! The space was huge and well decorated and we were lead upstairs to be seated amongst many other diners. Despite it being fairly busy, there were plenty of staff around to assist with all the tables so it didn't feel as though our table lacked any attention. The service was amazing here, staff was great, and the food came out in a timely manner as well. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers to share amongst our large party and I loved everything. I had high expectations especially since Nobu is very well known but I was also a little skeptical since it is a chain. However, it did live up to my expectations. The cold appetizers of raw fish were delicious - super fresh fish and the different apps of fish had different sauces. They were unique and refreshing. One of my favorites was the fluke, which had some garlic crisps on top that was a lovely touch. The seared tuna tataki was also done really well. Texture was amazing and they were good sized pieces too! Their hot dishes were also amazing. The rock shrimp was perfectly fried with juicy bite-sized chunks of shrimp and a thin layer of batter on the outside that was coated in a nice sauce. The miso black cod is also a popular item from the menu and this did not disappoint. The fish was chunky and cooked so well. Not overly done so it was nice and flakey and tender. I don't typically eat fish skin but this was delicious. The miso glaze was done perfectly. However, not everything was done well. The brussel sprouts were underwhelming. When it comes to brussel sprouts, I prefer it to be crispy and their dish here was not. It was coated in a sweet and savory sauce that might have been the reason for it being on the soggier side. The spicy tuna crispy rice was just okay. The crispy rice was fried a bit too much so it needed a lot of chewing but the spicy tuna was smooth and not spicy. It was also fun since you get to put it together on your own. We ended the meal with a ton of different nigiris, a few rolls, and toro and scallion hand rolls. As expected, the fish was top quality. Some of my favorite items were the scallop and uni, both were sweet and had that melt-in-your-mouth quality. The unagi (eel) was also one of my favorites cause the pieces of eel on top were huge! Amazing topping to rice ratio. They also didn't skimp on the toro in the handrolls! Such a yummy meal with great service. If it wasn't so $$$$, I'd eat here every day.

Yelp
I went for my 21st birthday a couple weeks ago and I loved this place. The food was delicious and the ambiance was really nice. I definitely plan on coming to Nobu more often. The service was also great. This place is exactly what you expect it to be. 10/10
