On the Grid : Nodo Donuts

"For gluten-sensitive souls, donuts are generally a no-go. Not anymore. Nodo are spreading the love ‘round Newstead by making delish donuts that everyone can enjoy. Choose raw or baked, but they’re all guilt-and-gluten-free, and chock full of wholesome ingredients like freeze dried berries, banana and cacao. Nodo’s philosophy? Eat Donuts for Breakfast. Now that’s a mantra we can get behind." - Bigfish

Recommending Nodo in Brisbane is like recommending Central Park in New York, but I'm here to specifically tell you that the blueberry lemon cheesecake donut is mandatory.

Brisbane: Just as cool as Syd/Mel, I promise

This is the best gluten free brunch I’ve had! Since going gluten free I haven’t wanted to just eat bread but I could eat a whole loaf of Nodo’s bread. The service was great too and the vibe is great and there’s a good view of some of south bank too!

I came from Sydney to eat here (seriously, was the main purpose of my trip) and I was a bit disappointed with a few things. Food quality is good but the service is a let down. The tables are always packed so you share your breakfast with strangers. The tables aren’t cleaned or wiped. I went to get lunch on Sunday (4th visit there in my 2 day trip) and all the tables were being packed away and umbrellas closed 1.5 hours before closing (and an hour before lunch service ended). I felt like an inconvenience for ordering when clearly all the staff just wanted to leave. Donuts also sell out really early in the day so maybe a second round of donuts on weekends. Love the menu options and quality of food but hopefully some improvements as above.

One of our alternative 'Post Parkrun' coffee stops, located just off the Arboretum pedestrian walkway. Outdoor seating under umbrellas and building soffit. Good service, nice coffee with the usual range of cafe snacks and food.

The Vegan options here make this well worth the visit. The Holy Cacao was freaking delicious and packed with protein 💪🏼🌱 It's also in a beautiful location with table 21 being my favourite. A very nice atmosphere and view.

A small gorgeous parkside cafe. I had the strawberry matcha iced latte and the breakfast donut. The iced latte refused to combine when stirred with a straw and stubbornly stayed separated in layers of strawberry cold foam, matcha, and jam. Very tasty individually but imbalanced sweetness wise - I would recommend trying to shake the cup before popping the lid. The breakfast donut however needs no such disclaimer. The perfect combination of a sweet and spiced glaze, chopped nuts and a (I think) wholegrain but still moist, donut. This is truly the perfect breakfast snack if you want something a bit sweet and not too heavy without the guilt of having dessert for breakfast.

Omg gluten free breakfast donuts. Say no more. And they just happen to be delicious. We grabbed a breakkie toastie, loaf of sourdough and had the Egg Yolk and Apple crumble donut. Ham cheese toastie yum

Very good eggs benny. Different from other cafes around town. Coffee was also great.

Below average in my opinion food taste - 2/5 Customer service - 4/5 Overall experience - 3/5 Firstly it’s “find your own seat” concept like in public food court. Creepily stand behind occupied table until they are vacant. I ordered sourdough bread on side and what I thought I ordered was a standard sourdough turns out to be some whole meal pumpkin or some other seeded bread. Would be nice to mention that on menu instead of surprising me. Coffee was served at room temperature. Beef cheeks had no flavour and was dry. Only enjoyable dish was fries
