Nohga Hotel Kiyomizu Kyoto

Highly recommend this hotel. It’s beautifully designed and perfectly located within walking distance of the Gion district and Kiyomizu-Dera Temple. The on-site bakery and breakfast restaurant are great ways to start the morning, and the rooftop bar is the perfect place to end the night with delicious drinks and views facing Kiyomizu-Dera. One thing to note is the laundry dryers. It took almost an hour and half to fully dry a load. I think this is an area that could be improved for added convenience. Overall, the hotel offers a wonderful ambiance and an experience we truly enjoyed. Thank you to all the staff members that made this experience possible.

This was my first trip to Kyoto, and after a lot of research, I chose Nohga Hotel, and I was very satisfied with my stay. The bed was extremely spacious, somewhere between a double and a king size, which I really liked, but the pillows were disappointing as they were too soft and sank easily, which was a bit unfortunate. The water pressure in the shower was excellent, and having a water purifier next to the sink was incredibly convenient. I didn’t realize it was there at first and bought bottled water, but even so, it was a great feature. The breakfast was excellent, and every staff member was genuinely kind and welcoming. In particular, the dining staff were even more friendly than the front desk, which made starting each day feel especially pleasant. I also absolutely loved the Osaji shampoo provided in the room. It seems to be a local brand that is not easy to find elsewhere. I liked it so much that I bought several bottles at the hotel, and I am extremely happy with the purchase. I would love to give this hotel 5 stars, but the location was just slightly inconvenient. It was a bit far from the main busy areas, so it wasn’t easy to stop by the hotel to rest and then head back out during the day. That said, it is still a hotel I would definitely recommend and would happily stay at again in the future.

Great location, quiet area that is easy to access more popular places by bus, long walk, or short taxi rides. The rooms were clean and nice, although a bit small. Free laundromat on site, however the detergent is automatic and the dryer setting cannot be changed to low, so it shrunk some of my clothing. The breakfast is buffet plus an egg dish made to order. You can also order lattes and such from the cafe for an additional cost. The cafe and bakery carries very nice pastries. The rooftop bar was my absolute favorite! Great music (modern R&B, a little low key hip hop, very vibey and relaxed), amazing cocktails and nice service. The view of the nearby mountains is pretty and the fireplace comes on at night, making it very cozy. They do enforce 1.5 hour stay, despite us continuously ordering drinks. It’s a popular place but not loud. Love this place, really made our stay great.

We stayed here for 3 days, 2 nights and it was a very satisfying experience. The location is pretty central, though the nearest station to us is a 10-min walk away. But Gion st. is a mere 15 min walk away and Kyoto station was around a 10 min drive. It’s a newer boutique hotel and the rooms are aptly spacious. The bed was very comfortable! We also loved the water filter we had in the room and they have Balmudi kettles as well. Don’t miss out on the bakery they have in the lobby. It was very good! They have an in-house restaurant as well which looked promising. We had a very pleasant stay and it was good for the price point. We would love to stay here again.

We stayed recently for five nights and found the hotel beautifully designed. The staff did their best to accommodate everyone and the concierge was very helpful and responsive on WhatsApp. She assisted us with several reservations although we were not completely satisfied with the kaiseki restaurant and tea ceremony she recommended. The food was average and overpriced and we expected a higher standard. The French bakery was excellent, for Japanese standards. The rooftop terrace was also very pleasant though the staff there were somewhat intrusive and interrupted our conversations several times. The only real drawback was the laundry facility. It is very small, cramped and hot. The washing machines did not clean effectively and we had to leave our clothes in the dryer for about 90 minutes. It was also quite busy and some guests left their laundry unattended which caused delays for others. Overall it is a nice hotel in a convenient location and I would recommend it.

Fantastic hotel!!! I came here for my 40th birthday and I have stayed at a lot of great resorts and hotels in those years, and can easily say this is in my top three of all time. The rooftop bar and restaurant is incredible with an amazing view. Especially nice at night. The main restaurant and bakery on site are an incredible combo, breakfast is incredible. The rooms are full of top tier amenities and features. Shower is so lovely, bed is comfortable, room (king superior room) is plenty big for the two of us. To top it all off, the nicest and kindest staff who all exemplify the great hospitality Japan is known for. Love this place, cannot recommend enough. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Nohga Kiyomizu!!! I'm on day two of the three here and will be sad to leave :)

First of all, this is one of best hotels I’ve ever been too in my life. Accommodations are first class from The minute you walk in to your room. The Cicon bakery is IINSANE, so many good pastries, breads and fresh Sandwiches every morning. Plus they have a LIVE DJ on the weekend which was a vibe. The rooftop bar has hands down the best tacos we’ve ever had as well plus the restaurant downstairs Caesar salad is 🔥 All in all, don’t think you can find a better stay in Kyoto.

I stayed 4 nights, and I have mixed feelings about it. Overall, I thought it was poor value for how much I paid. A few examples: I wanted to use the bike, I had to pay extra (it’s 2000yen). There’s a kettle in the room, but not a welcome tea bag. The rooftop bar was closed the night I went to check it out. My interactions with the front desk (especially when I checked in, and when I rented the bike, so thank you for that!) and the staff at the bakery were always pleasant, but I can’t say the same about the ones I had with the staff at the restaurant or the rooftop. The hotel doesn’t offer room service, and the take out system forces you into a ordering in person and waiting around while your order gets made. Then you have to carry it awkwardly to your room- you’d think someone would at least help you call the elevator or something. And on top of that, they charge a “box fee”… I asked once if it was okay to have my drink at the bar while waiting for the food to be ready, but was offered zero flexibility. Didn’t want to deal with seating me in the restaurant. He even rolled his eyes when I asked him about a wine menu. “Wine??” All that to say, the service in some parts is lacking. Note that the windows have a big white sticker on them for privacy reasons (at least mine did in the twin room): there’s a school across the hotel, and you won’t be able to open your window very much. Edit to add: on my last night, I could hear lots of noise from the room upstairs, so I think people checked-in then. I’m seeing some other reviewers experienced the same noise issues with the soundproofing.
