Stayed here 3 nights when we arrived to Japan and it was the perfect base for us to find our feet. Just a very short walk from Ueno station, it's located in a quieter side of the area, so perfect if that's your vibe.
The room itself was really comfortable if on the smaller side, but that's definitely to be expected of a city centre hotel. There wasn't any coffee in the room, but that's a small gripe when they serve coffee at breakfast anyway.
Again, the gym is "cosy", but they've got the essentials you'll need.
Where this place comes into its own is the bistro, which also serves at the bar. The food is magnificent - not what you'd call authentic, but superb nonetheless. The charcuterie had a Japanese flair, serving chicken gizzard, and was delicious. I also had the pork, which was also cooked to perfection. Our server was brilliant: she spoke impeccable English and gave us all the info about the local area we could need, as well as the hotel's printed map and guide to Ueno.
The buffet-style breakfast is great. A huge variety of pickled vegetables and salad items if you fancy going local, as well as pastries and granola if you don't. We opted for the hot breakfast options as well, which included a Japanese breakfast that I wasn't brave enough to try; the French toast and open sandwich, however, were both amazing.
All in all, a perfect base camp for first-time explorers.
