The 16 Best Things to Do in New Orleans (Updated 2025)
"I start off many visits with a free walking tour, and NOLA Tour Guy's free walking tour is a great choice — you'll learn the neighborhood's history and get access to an expert local guide who can answer your questions (just be sure to tip your guide)." - Matthew Kepnes
Took 2 Nola Tour Guy tours in New Orleans, one in the Garden District, one in the French Quarter.
Both were excellent, different guides for each tour (both History Graduates with great local knowledge). Both were worth a contribution at the end.
If you only have time for one, I’d go for the French Quarter.

We had so much fun on our tour! Our guide was great and he had so much passion for his city and it really showed. We loved learning about the area and its history and the people behind it. The homes are beautiful and the area is so charming. The tour is free, but you gotta pay these guys, its well worth the money, and don't forget to tip!

Wonderful free walking tour of the French Quarter. Sandy, our tour guide was exceptionally good - very knowledgeable and quite funny too, which added so much to the tour. We covered a lot of ground during the two hours with loads of information. A true historian. Sandy spoke clearly and loudly, so we all could hear above the noise of the city.
Highly recommend a tour with Sandy. 5 thumbs up for her. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

My family of five did the tour Friday morning. Our guide was fantastic. He gave a great historic view of key sites in the city, had an insiders perceptive on cool places to see, eat and do (specifically on a budget). Also, challenges the city faces currently. My husband and three teenagers each stayed engaged. It was a great way to start our trip. I highly recommend this tour.

Sal was probably the greatest tour guide I have ever had apart from his other talents around the city. The group was small and intimate and we were able to ask any questions we wanted. Sal had a little surprise near the end of our tour and it was really cool but I don't want spoil it for other guests. I had a great time and wish I had more time to do more tours from Nola Tour Guy. Next time I am here I guarantee I will seek out NTG first, no questions about it.
FYI I did the tour at St. Louis cemetery #3. It's nice that it is off the beaten path and near City Park. While we were there, there was a large tour that got off a bus and we're herded around like cattle. That's when I knew I made a good choice. You can take the streetcar all the way up canal and about a 5 minute nice walk to the cemetery. After the tour I went back in to look around a little more and there was an active burial going on so please be respectful.

Free walking tours are a great way to explore a new city, the first thing I do when I travel somewhere is to look for one, so we were happy to find Nola Tour Guy and we did both the French Quarter and the Garden District tours, we had a great time, and learnt a lot. Both guides were very knowledgeable and it was definitely a pleasure to leave them a nice tip (as is customery when taking these kinds of tours)

I did two tours with Daniel and learned so much! He is so kind and knowledgeable, answered everyone's classes every time, and made sure everyone had a good time. Next time I go to NOLA I will be booking all my tours with him! Highly recommend!
