On the Grid : Nom Nom Pho

"Nom Nom Phó is a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown South Bend. Originally opened in 2016 and now owned by husband-and-wife Ann-Marie Conrado and Devi Sapkota, the restaurant is steadily introducing new offerings. We're rare steak pho loyalists, but the vegetarian ramen with green noodles is a recent, and fantastic, addition. In our humble opinion, Nom Nom Pho is currently serving the best ramen in South Bend." - West.SB

I wanted to come try the Pho which is what the restaurant is known for. Their portions are crazy big. There’s no way one person can eat a regular sized bowl of Pho. I had the veggie pho and asked for it spicy and it was a level 8/10 spicy! My nose was running the whole time! I had to wait close to 40minutes after I ordered so that was very annoying given there was no advance warning.

Google
The whole family really enjoyed this place. They have a pretty large menu. The service was good on our only visit. We got smoothies, tofu salad rolls, vegetarian pho, and a kids fried rice with chicken. My son loved the fried rice and asked to go back the next day. I will say the rice was fairly oily. Enough to see it collect on the bottom of the plate. The salad rolls had good presentation and were good. The vegetarian pho was very good and a large portion. I would definitely come here again if I am in the area.

Google
The workers were welcoming but a little slow to check up on us which is okay, we're patient people lol The food was good though! I recommend the asian loaded fries and dumpling soup! The dumpling soup was creamy and flavored amazingly! The fries were also well balanced in flavor and crunchy with a crisp. I recommend coming to try this place. :)

Traveling makes for new opportunities, and we picked well! The portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable. It takes a bit of time to get food. Also, the chicken was a little on the dry side. However, other than those two small things, it was really great. I would 100% go back if I lived nearby.

Google
Beautiful restaurant with good food. Had to take my order to go, and it was fairly quick. Enjoyed spring rolls and tonkatsu ramen. Sooooo good!

Google
This is a great establishment to grow your back. LOL. The food here is GREAT! I had a really delicious lunch today. I had the Avocado Bowl with Brisket (add-on). I had a hard time choosing because there were so many delicious options to choose from. Pros: As previously mentioned, the food is delicious. It comes in large portions. If I were actually concerned about having a big back, I could easily divide the meal into 3 of those meal planning containers. I ate my meal in its entirety, no left overs. Because I am a classy lady, I had to maintain a public eating face, which was difficult because I wanted to shovel the food into my mouth. The carrots and cucumbers were slightly pickled (?). The kimchi and sauce were very tasty. The brisket was the biggest surprise for me. The bowl does not come with brisket, but you can add it on for $4. I received a lot of meat. I was not expecting that much. The facility itself is nice, casual. I love the mural on the far side. There was no wait for a table. Cons: For those with some sensory things going on, the first thing that got me was the volume of the music. I suppose it helps to mask conversation. But, I felt a bit overwhelmed by it. Maybe I was right under the speaker. If you have trouble with patience, you're going to have difficulty. Although I didn't have to wait for a table (seat yourself) and the server came over quickly to take my order, it did take some time to get my food. I didn't time it but there was a wait. It is to be expected, I suppose, given that it is NOT a fast-food restaurant. I instantly forgave the wait, because the food was so worth it. There appeared to be only one server. She was lightly attentive as she had many tasks to tend to. I'm still gonna go back every opportunity I can, because the food is just that good. (This is like my 4th or 5th visit altogether.)

Google
Absolutely a 10 across the board. We got not picture the fried spring rolls, and loaded fries (if you’d like them vegetarian just hold the spicy mayo). I order rare beef pho and my son order tonkotsu ramen not pictured. I also ordered a pot of hot green tea. I love this restaurant. The food is always warm and delicious and filled with aromatic scents that just for me make me smile. Our server was so nice and seemed to be working the entire restaurant, it was a little busy on Thursday evening. She did fabulous. We found this restaurant randomly last year and decided to try it and I’m so glad we did. We have now celebrated a birthday here and just made it our go-to comfort food spot. Keep up the great work.

Google
The banh mi sandwich was amazing, as was the nom nom loaded fries! The vegetarian pho was good, through it had a little bit of a strong clove taste for my preference. Very friendly and quick service. Update: the massaman curry and keowan curry were ok but not great. However, the veggie ramen was very good, especially if you like mushroom broth.

Yelp
A great place to enjoy spring rolls. Fresh flavor, reasonable prices, and a clean restaurant.

Yelp
So so yummy!!! We got the nom nom Asian fries and drunken noodles!!! I recommend to anyone living in south bend or visiting!

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about this place! We stopped in here on a whim and were blown away! After seeing positive reviews about the Nom Nom tacos, we ordered those to split. They were incredible. They're packed with flavor, spicy but not too spicy, and had amazing texture. I ordered the Spicy Bahn Mi with pork and my boyfriend ordered the Nom Nom rice platter. My sandwich was perfectly made with just the right amount of meat to veggie ratio and his rice platter was just as tasty! The meats were all perfectly cooked, full of flavor and the portions were incredible! We would actively go out of our way to come back here to eat again.

Yelp
The pho here is really good, and the portions are satisfying. The broth has a rich taste, though it could be a little more aromatic. The restaurant is clean, and the staff is polite and helpful. Sometimes the wait can be a bit long, especially during lunch hours. The menu has a good variety of options besides pho. Overall, it's a solid choice for a quick and tasty meal. I will be back to try more dishes.

Yelp
This restaurant was nothing short of delicious. The loaded fries were so crunchy and savory and had the perfect touch of onions and seaweed flakes. A great twist asian twist to the normal day to day fries. Our severe was extremely patient with our table, we were not sure what to eat but she guided us through the menu and helped us out. The music was fun and the atmosphere was super chill and clean.
google avatar

Lina L.

Yelp
my entire family loves the tacos here, the ramen is pretty good too. our server was also super nice. i will say the floor was a little sticky when we were there, and the tables were kinda messy, but food is delish and will def be coming back
google avatar

Luna L.

Yelp
the nom nom spicy tacos were so good my mom and i both agreed we are coming back here just for those. they were served in some softish roti and felt very fusion. the service was eh i had to hunt down the waitress a few times but nothing terrible. plenty of seating inside and there was more people than i expected at 2/3pm in the afternoon. nom nom bun noodles were fine and banh mi and spring rolls were quite good but those TACOS wow i really can not get over them

Yelp
The second time here was much better execution on the Thai food. Definitely will be back. Green curry was on point. Service was a little slow but was a lunch rush.
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Best Tom Yum I've had in a long time! Such a delicious and flavorful soup. Service and atmosphere were top notch and I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered takeout and noodles were completely overcooked. Mush. Not recommending Pad Tai

Yelp
Honestly I don't like Pho, but this place makes a dang good Bahn Mi. My word, it was great. The add-on of fries were just as tasty! Definitely coming back. Staff was super kind as well. We had to leave head out early due to us not realizing what time it was and they were super chill about it. Restaurant has a hole in the wall appearance at first, but trust me try it. They have much more than just pho as well. Rice dishes, noodle, ramen, curries, and more. Give them a shot!

Yelp
I was looking for a place to stop before I flew back home to arkansas, now I'm bummed that I don't have Nom Nom pho in my town! service was wonderful, the food came out quick and was nice and hot (very delicious) and there was a nice, quiet ambiance. will stop again!

Yelp
Fantastic food all around. Had the fresh spring rolls and NomNom Bun salad, which is a favorite I can't find everywhere. Highly recommend.

Yelp
First time here myself, husband loves the bahn mi chicken here. I got the beef pho nom nom style. Portion of noodles were huge, broth was good. Little skimpy on the meat portion. My daughter got the kids pho. Also..huge bowl of noodles woth a few strips of chicken. Overall.. pretty decent. The sandwich was really good!

Yelp
I've dined here twice, both times with my girl, and both ordering their delicious Pho. There wasn't anything about our experiences that could be considered to be even remotely unpleasant. This is definitely on our "we will return" list of local restaurants.

Yelp
Boy I stop in every time I have to go to south bend and I'm never sorry. I've tried a lot of menu items and they're always so good! Curry, fried rice, pad Thai, pho... it's all always so good and well prepared and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful, food comes out fast and fresh, it's always clean and smells good... this place is awesome
google avatar

Yelp
I flew into South Bend Int'l Airport & decided to stop here for lunch before heading out to my final destination. The service was good. The food was ok. Both the Shrimp Spring Roll & Bun Noodle Salad with Fried Spring Rolls were more salad than vermicelli noodles. The majority of other places I've been to do the opposite. Also, on the Bun Noodle Salad, it looks nice but I wish the spring rolls had been completely rather than partially cut into pieces. A minor annoyance.

Yelp
We found this place by accident and stopped because it looked cute. We ordered the drunken noodles, fried dumplings, and spring rolls. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. We liked it so much we went back again a week later for the loaded Asian fries, ramen and pho. Portions and price are very reasonable. Just don't plan on being in a hurry because your waiter won't be. Both times, with different waiters, we waited quite awhile just to be greeted after we sat. Our glasses weren't refilled either time we went and both times we had to hunt down the waiter and ask. They are super friendly. Just not very fast. Inside was cute and clean. We will definitely be back- when we have a lot of time to kill.

Yelp
Some of the best food I've ever had! I'm in Indiana visiting and I will absolutely miss this place. I came back to eat here a couple more times after the first visit and everything is delicious! The spicy edamame is my favorite. No doubt I will be back when I'm in this state.

Yelp
Pork spring roll - skip, mostly lettuce and very little pork and no noodles. Combo pho is delicious wish it had more meat.. I started just ordering just two types of meat after. Tonkotsu pork ramen good wish it had more then 3 slices of pork though very small. Soup is yummy. I used to order from here a lot when I worked nearby. I think they are closed on Monday's. If you're in downtown this is a nice place to just grab takeout to dine in.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for a few years and it seems to never disappoint. The staff is always super nice , the food is great, and the environment is friendly. Service takes a little longer here but that's to be expected with small shops like this and it's worth the wait !
google avatar

Joshua O.

Yelp
Great food. Very, very slow service every single time we've been there over the years it's been open. Don't go there if you're in a hurry to catch a show at the Norris or something. Maybe it's faster at lunch time, haven't been.
google avatar

Almad M.

Yelp
Food is ok but make sure you specify several time what you want so that you get what you ordered.

Alexa J.

Yelp
This restaurant was not good. It didn't seem clean, food took a long time to come out, and did not have good service. We had to ask multiple times for things I asked for already. The fried rice had an excessive amount of pepper on it. The floor, windows, and chairs were dirty/sticky. Once we were almost finished eating, they brought out our last person's meal, which seemed forgotten about. We wouldn't come again.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Food was delicious and had so much flavor. Highly recommend the fries and the boa sandwich. My husband was super happy with his ramen. We ordered online and it was ready when it estimated pick up. Inside is a small but had plenty of seating available but it was early in the evening.

Yelp
Great Thai food! We enjoyed a late evening meal at this quaint Thai diner. Nom Nom had great Yelp reviews and now I know why. Perfect portions. Reasonably priced. Good friendly service. Easy on street parking.

Joan S.

Yelp
First time visit and my immediate impression was the place did not look clean. We were greeted right away and given menus. We decided to split a couple of appetizers as well as the main meal. We picked two appetizers, both of which they were out of, although this was not previous mentioned. We then substituted with the spring rolls and they were fresh and the peanut sauce was delicious. The main meal was Pad Thai, and, although my dinner companion liked it, I must say it tasted like no other Pad Thai I've ever had. It had a bitter, funny taste and I was unable to eat it. I would not recommend this place, unfortunately.

Mike W.

Yelp
I never review business but, I am sick and tired of throwing away money. In the last 2 months I have gotten take out from nom nom pho. 3 times in a row I have gotten home and the order was wrong. Living about 30 minutes away it's not easy to just jump in the car and take it back. Throwing money away sucks. The food is just OK. Please fix this problem. Having service like this is how business go out of business.

Yelp
Food didn't taste bad, but not good either. There was however a bug in the pho- nice surprise. Ordered the super bowl pho special and the rice dish with pork and beef and shrimp, as well as the spring rolls with shrimp. The pho only had one meatball and a few sad additions of other meat. Service was nice though. they gave us a 10% discount for it and apologized.

Alis O.

Yelp
Was awesome first time I try that food and I really like it, my Myanmar friend give that I idea I'm glad she convence me to do it

S R.

Yelp
Our fav spot for ramen/pho - however low stars for multiple issues with ordering, for example paying for more noodles, extra meat - and never getting it... inconsistent hours on DoorDash, Uber Eats. Super frustrating and ruins the experience.

Kelli M.

Yelp
Add a takeout rack, or a sign to let those who ordered take out know where they should wait. Thanks.
google avatar

Jaan R.

Yelp
Stop reading this review and get a bahn-mi. The pho is great, but the bahn-mi (and pork belly tacos!) kept me fed while I was quarantined during the worst of the pandemic. Their fries are killer, too.

Bella P.

Yelp
There's something about a small, family owned, vietnamese restaurant that warms my heart. The food was absolutely delicious too. We ordered the fried gyoza, tonkatsu ramen, and the chicken pho. Everything was 10/10. Staff were friendly and very chill. Will be coming back here to try more. Pictured chicken pho.

Yelp
I love Vietnamese food and I enjoyed the salad I'm just not sure it could be called authentic. Decent service. I got my meal to go.

Yelp
Working up South Bend and this place sounded good for dinner. I grabbed a couple of pork belly bahn mi's. It was delicious and I was very happy
google avatar

Shawniece H.

Yelp
I stopped into Nom Nom on a very chilly Friday afternoon, looking for something to warm up my belly. I found it! Nom Nom is a cute downtown gem that offers both Thai and Vietnamese food. I was slightly confused by this. I mean, the countries are close, but the food is so different. Anyhoo, I grabbed Vietnamese coffee, gyoza, and the ramen special. My only complaint (and reason for taking them down a star) is that everything seemed to be turned down a notch. Traditional Vietnamese coffee is made with condensed milk and coffee that will knock your socks off. It's sweet and strong. This was watered down. I ordered spicy broth, this was flavorful, but not at all spicy. I just expected a little more umph. Service was great. I met Chuck, the GM. He gave great suggestions and was very attentive.

Yelp
This will be an unusual review for me in that I haven't physically set foot inside the restaurant, and normally I discuss seating, cleanliness, and masking. I ordered the chicken pho on three separate occasions over the course of two weeks, and others with me variously had the massaman curry and bahn mi sandwich. We all agreed that the food was good, but not great, and so the average three-star rating. Both times I ordered the pho in regular size, it came with a single basil leaf and single sprig of cilantro. The supersize pho had double that (two). Although the amount of noodles was appropriate, my point is that the fixings were sparse, so it was less tasty than it could be. We were hard-pressed to find peanuts in the massaman curry, and the amount of beef on the bahn mi could have been more generous. So, all told, our impression is of good food that could be more flavorful with more abundant ingredients. In fairness, we did not request extra fixings for the second or third order, so it's possible those would be provided on request? (Note: I seldom post pictures of food packaged for takeout, as it just doesn't do it justice from a presentation standpoint.)

Yelp
I've had great Pho. I've had okay Pho. Nom Nom is Bad Bad. the spring rolls: over stuffed with nothing but shredded iceberg lettuce with a pathetic display of the most thinly sliced and overcooked pork I've experienced. See photos The Pho: I ordered their large extra meat. I paid for extra meat. If I got that amount for a "regular amount" I'd feel cheated. For extra meat, no go, Nom Nom. See photos When my Pho did come out I wasn't given a spoon. Only when I asked the server for a spoon did they bring the sprouts, which I am certain I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. We never really saw our server much after we got our food, and maybe that was for the best. My fiancé's food was the bbq pork and rice w egg and pickled eggs w shrimp. Her rice was hard, pork was burnt, veggies were not pickled, shrimp was over cooked. Her tea was good and the egg was good. Her words. The floor of this place was sticky. The bathroom was kinda gross. The menus and table cards needed replacement pre COVID. They are disgusting. See photos Tables sat full of dirty dishes left by patrons throughout our entire Nom Nom experience. My first instinct when we sat down was to leave. $60 later we left and terribly disappointed in the Nom Nom experience My thought process is this : if Nom Nom Is going to be this obvious about these things we can see who the hell really knows what they are doing behind closed doors.

Joel S.

Yelp
Best food in South Bend. I've liked everything I tried at Nom Nom Pho. My favorite restaurant in Indiana but not widely appreciated yet.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
We got covid carryout tonight. Nom Nom is almost as good out of a foam carryout container. They.packages the girls Tom Yum with noodles separate, which was thoughtful. The bahm mi was really good and my drunken noodles were delicious. Nom nom is true gem of South Bend, if you haven't tried...you should.

Janelle D.

Yelp
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan. I didn't care for the pho. It had a weird floral flavor to it. The pad Thai was alright but I had a really hard time getting past the color (it was really pink). The massaman curry was only thing worth getting in my opinion. But I personally wouldn't come here again. It is not worth trying to find parking for downtown for.

Frank D.

Yelp
Service was good, friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was just average. The resteraunt was clean, spacious and easy to locate. Wish the food was better :(
google avatar

Gigi D.

Yelp
Pork and vegetable egg rolls wrapped in rice paper and dipped in peanut butter sauce were fantastic! Drunken noodle w/chicken was yummy but if you order the heat "medium", beware bc it might hurt you later. The Thai tea w/tapioca bobas was a great pairing w/the spicy dish. Service was speedy and very helpful w/what to order.
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
I'm giving four stars for the food and the service. I would want to see more choices of beers, they were down to one (Asahi) as they were out of Singha Beer. I had the Chicken Bun and the fried gyoza. Both were great. The Bun was a heaping bowl of fresh ingredients at a very good price vs other Vietnamese places I've been to. The sauce was excellent- the presentation was very appetizing but honestly it would be better if the mixed it all up in the kitchen for you so that the flavors blended better.

Marc S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, really bad food. We had the fresh spring rolls. They were dripping with water and falling apart. We eat Vietnamese a lot, and these were by far the worst ever. The pho was average at best. Broth did not seem authentic. Papaya salad was ok, but we needed a second (probably third sauce). We've made papaya salad before, and learned the papaya needs to sit in the sauce a bit. Also was very watery. Seemed like the restaurant needs authentic Asian cooking.

Heather O.

Yelp
Miso Ramen, Loaded Fries, and Thai tea. Really enjoyed this meal but did wish my ramen had more veggies ‍ Get. The. Fries!!!

Dennis G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service prices are good service is good pho is perfect long drive worth it
google avatar

Greg K.

Yelp
Flavors were flat. Not a lot of garnish for the Pho. Survive was also lacking in attention. Over all a disappointment. Most likely won't try it again.
