I can only speak for the private rooms but it was overall a wonderful experience staying at Nomadas Hostel in Merida. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, especially Alexis. Alexis and the rest of the social events organizers put in a lot of time and effort creating activities for guests to join on their own, and no it never feels forced. Their WhatsApp group is very informative and always updating guests on what activities, food/drink specials, and daily tours are available for the day/week. They offer a lot of tours, which I found very helpful.
The private room was clean and comfortable, and AC blows cold. Water pressure was a little low but that didn't bother me one bit.
The pool is a highlight. It's a great place to cool off during the day due to the hot and humid Yucatan weather. It's a great common area with hammocks, tables, loungers, and of course, a bar, where everyone usually hangs out. I didn't find the smoking to be an issue as a non-smoker because everyone who smoked were quite considerate of others. Lots of wonderful volunteers working the bar as well - Secil and Francesca to name a couple.
The hostel is located quite close to Centro, so walking to restaurants, markets, shops, corner stores, bars, clubs, parks, plazas, museums. etc were done with ease. Ubers are also quite affordable while traversing Merida from this location.
