Where to Stay in Sydney (Updated 2025)

"I used this as the budget option in the CBD because it offers free Wi‑Fi and an on-site bar, making it a fun place to meet people while staying central." - Matthew Kepnes

Nomads was a nice place to stay, especially as a solo traveller, but I had an unfortunate experience there that I don't think was handled very well by the reception. ||I arrived late Tuesday night and had a one night reservation from Tuesday to Wednesday and then a separate reservation from Wednesday to Wednesday. I asked in the reception when I arrived if I had to check out Wednesday morning or if I could stay in the room, and she told me I could just stay. I even double checked the morning after if I could leave my stuff in the room and she assured me I could, so I left my kind of expensive towel hanging in the room, along with my suitcases, and went out for the day. ||Maybe this was not communicated to the housekeeping, or at least something happened, because when I came back the towel was gone, but I thought maybe they would bring it back. When they didn't I asked the reception a couple days later about it and she said they would text me if they found it but they never did. ||When I checked out I asked her again, and said I was a little disappointed because I was told I could leave my stuff in there and then something was taken, and then she just very rudely responded that I was not allowed to accuse their staff of stealing, and that she would not tolerate their staff being spoken about like that. I was very taken aback because I genuinely think it was a mistake they took it, but the girl at the reception never offered any other resolution and didn't even apologize for the mistake. ||it's my first time traveling alone and I was told at nomads that it was a good place for first time young travellers, so I'm sad I had this unfortunate experience with the receptionist, and was a little offended at being spoken to like that and not even being offered an apology. ||Maybe more experienced hostel stayers will think it's a rookie mistake to leave your stuff out no matter what, but it was my first stay in a hostel. ||But except for this experience it was a nice stay, nice rooms, and you can tell they care about it often being young solo travellers staying there, so I'm sad this experience changed my experience with the hostel.

If you’re looking for a hostel where you can actually sleep, definitely don’t choose Nomads Hostel. There’s a nightclub right next door and it literally feels like the DJ is in your room ,the walls are shaking and you hear all the music. If you’re into karaoke and parties, it’s great. But if you want to sleep, it’s pretty much impossible. And if you’re counting on the understanding of the Nomads Hostel staff, they’ll just offer you earplugs and wish you a good night 😴💤😃

Paid 260$ for some trash room. Don’t look at the pictures posted. It’s completely different. The rooms were so bad that the whole vibe in Sydney was ruined. There’s leaking from the wall and the mats were all wet. We booked thinking it would be similar to the picture but at the end it wasn’t cleaned, no space to walk, leaking from damaged wall, no soap and it wasn’t refundable. Ask the front desk why does it say dirty in the room list when we checked in and she said cuz someone is there. Shouldn’t rooms be cleaned for the next person? Anyways I hope you all choose the hotel wisely and not judge the pictures. Worst hotel room ever in my entire existence.

It's a good hostel. It was clean and nice and overall I have no complaints, I left the hostel with a good feeling. However, I didn't love being woken up by a fire alarm when there was no fire and the internet in the rooms wasn't stable. Beyond that it was everything you could ask for a hostel, friendly staff, clean amenities, tours and activities, so yeah overall good and I would go back :)

As an older woman travelling alone I was very happy with this hostel and would recommend it and stay there again. The reception staff were incredibly kind and helpful and went out of their way to make my stay a pleasant one. It is right in central Sydney in quick walking distance to the Town Hall where I was going to a convention. Everything was clean and well run and the other guests were mostly polite and friendly young travelers . I did not find it as noisy as I was expecting and it was handy to be able to leave my luggage safely there after check out until I left late that afternoon. All in all it was a very pleasant experience.

I came here for a 2 day trip in sydney, and this hotel was great! The bed was really good and i got great sleep, i also got breakfast service which tasted amazing and was very quick to get delivered. The location is great, near many restaurants, shops, and close to public transport so you can get to the city. Overall 5/5 stars, amazing hotel

Stayed here for 3 days. The rooms are really big for a hostel but barely cleaned during your stay. The toilets can be dirty but the showers are always clean. The good location and the daily party’s in the scary canary that’s beside Nomads with free entry makes it up for it. Would really give it a try!

We had a short but amazing stay at Hotel Bellevue Retreat. I was a bit skeptical because of a few mixed reviews, but everything turned out to be better than expected. The room had a small balcony with a partial sea view. Clean towels daily, good water pressure in the shower, and decent Wi-Fi. What stood out most was the staff — incredibly kind and helpful. They helped us arrange a surprise cake for my sister’s birthday. Very sweet of them! Thank you 💛
