Highlights

After serving up hearty breakfasts and homemade delights for two decades, charming yet worn Nonie’s offers a cozy, nostalgic spot for brunch lovers, albeit with a sense of faded glory.

Man, where do I even start? How does this place have 4.3 Stars? Our town highly recommended this place so thought I’d try it today with my daughter. What a disaster! I felt like I was on an episode of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. Firstly, the place needs an update URGENTLY! The booth seats are all ripped, the table cloths are full of holes, the blue carpet is dirty and pulling up. Nothing is clean. My fork was full of egg. They brought us juices in the ugliest, oldest plastic cups I’ve ever seen. We had to ask for straws. The ketchup bottle was dirty. I paid $2 for literally 4 thin slices of avocado and my English muffin’s edges and our breakfast potatoes were burnt and too salty! My Canadian bacon had a thick piece of sinew running through it. I’ve never had sinew on any Canadian bacon I’ve ever eaten in 14 years. Must have been terrible quality. My daughter’s pancake had spinach underneath it. Our waitress was polite but did not come to ask us at any point if the food was even ok. I’ll never come back here or recommend this place. I don’t expect a small town breakfast place to be like the Ritz hotel, however I do expect cleanliness and they genuinely need to fix up the place. It feels uninviting.

Delicious for Sunday brunch. The Irish Benedict was very tasty. Decent prices too.

I grew up in Peterborough and visit Nonie's every time I am back in town for breakfast. The service is always fantastic, the hometown feel is great and it's an overall wonderful experience every time I go. And the jumble. The jumble is awesome.

My first time ever going in was this morning. The girl working at the cash register completely ignored me for several minutes. Not even a "Hello". She finally looked up at me after several awkward minutes and said "What do you want to order?" I had no idea what was on their menu - it was my first time there and I was just waiting for someone to acknowledge me. She laughed when I told her I didn't know what they offered. I sat myself at the diner counter, she gave me a menu, and then didn't even so much as glance at me again. Someone else offered me water, and that was that. I waited several minutes to be acknowledged, and wasn't. The woman who brought me water was then lecturing one of the people in the kitchen that the waffle she just made wasn't cooked through and it was very late. That was enough for me. I walked out and I will not be returning.

I was terribly disappointed when going to this local restaurant after the town trot, this morning. The food was okay but the service was absolutely atrocious. My group and I were very polite and said "thank you" for everything that we were served and not once did either of the two young girls say, "you're welcome." They were the least friendly servers I think I have ever experienced. Not once were we asked how the food was or if I wanted more coffee. I read a previous review response that said they were more focused on spending money on their staff rather than updates on the restaurant itself...I really hope more effort is put forth in training this staff on proper etiquette. I would've left a much bigger tip if the two server showed more care or effort.

Google
This is a quintessential greasy spoon restaurant. The booth pads and rugs have not been replaced or cared for in decades...it's past charming at this point. What we got: omelet, pancakes, home fries, hash browns, sausage links, toast. The great: omelet and toast! Had spinach in mine and it was fresh. The toast was crispy but not burned. The texture of the pancakes was also excellent, but there was a strange aftertaste that reminds me of McDonald's. Service was quick and reasonable. The BAD: home fries were tough and tasteless. The hash browns and sausage were crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. Coffee was also decent. Baked goods in the window looked tasty...but not interested in returning. Have family who would come here often long time ago and said it was a great spot. Sad to see it slipping.

Google
This is the best home town spot for everything breakfast! The food is mouth watering and scrumptious! French Crepes done right with fresh berries and real Maple syrup, bottomless coffee with your orders, and chefs who makes french toast look like art and taste heaven! Most of all... ITS AFFORDABLE!

Google
Really happy we stopped here for breakfast. The staff was very pleasant and the food was anything but generic - yet reasonably priced. Very homey atmosphere and a great place for families. Definitely my new place for breakfast though may come for more after seeing the cinnamon rolls on display.

Yelp
The new cook at Nonies has done a lot to upgrade my opinion of this restaurant, and if you try to get a seat during the warmer months when their outdoor seating is available you'll see I'm not the only one holding this opinion! The staple for me here is the Irish benedict. Great flavor and priced well. Coffee is good, servers are friendly, ambiance is very old fashioned and diner like. A lot of the older reviews are just that... old. Give it a shot!

Lori T.

Yelp
Great sandwiches with a diner ambiance and friendly service. Glad we stopped. Will return.

Kate P.

Yelp
This place is really cute on the outside and inside is very cozy, too. We stopped here for breakfast as the place we were going to ended up not being open. It did not disappoint. I ordered two eggs, bacon, toast, homefries, and pancakes. I did not expect the two giant sized pancakes that arrived or the large amount of potato. I seriously could have split this meal with someone else. I ended up leaving some, plus I shared with my parents. The eggs here are farm fresh and I'm not sure how they make the pancakes, but I'd guess they are not from a mix. The potatoes were fresh, not frozen, and cut in pretty large chunks. My eggs were cooked perfectly, which isn't easy to do. The coffee was pretty good, too. I do wish they would walk around with it a bit more often, but then we tend to drink our coffee pretty fast sometimes. All in all this was a good stop and one I'd make again if I was in the area. They had homemade muffins and other baked goodies, but I was to full to think of it after eating. Maybe next time :)

Gabrielle C.

Yelp
The food here is always good.. cute environment but unfortunately the past few times we've ate here the service has been extremely disappointing. Typically we find ourselves waiting a long time to be served, and more recently we waited at a table for about 15 minutes without menus and decided to leave at that point.

Celina L.

Yelp
ughhh. can i give this place more than 5 fucking stars??????? 10/10. #supportfamilybusinesses #eatlocal but the irish benedict breakfast special was orgasmic, tho.

Megan G.

Yelp
My dad used to take me here as a little girl, and I have very fond memories. A true Peterborough landmark.

Yelp
We're at Nonie's for an impromptu breakfast. They're packed to the gills for the holiday weekend, but operating efficiently, and they're able to keep everything moving along and somehow still talk to everyone and maintain the warm, welcoming atmosphere we've come to expect here. Some of us are getting our favorites, but the specials have also snagged us - my wife is getting the California Benedict, which looks awesome. I'm getting their spinach and feta omelet. The kids are getting blueberry pancakes, French toast, eggs of various sorts. Nonie's changes their decor with the season, and now they've got Halloween theming up. The kids are playing "I spy" with bats, witches, black cats, and jack-o-lanterns. We're always happy coming to Nonie's for breakfast.

Yelp
Great food great little diner. Loved the home fries cooked to perfection, not sure what they put in sausage gravy but it was awesome.

Robert Q.

Yelp
We were surprised and amazed by this little restaurant for outdoor lunch. Although their soda fountain was broken , the soup and turkey wrap sandwich was off the planet good. Fresh turkey! Great value. What a cool place

Amanda G.

Yelp
The outside seating and patio were cute so we were drawn to this place. Since it was a hot day the kids wanted to eat inside and honestly we should have known this place wasn't for us as soon as we stepped in. It is clear that the space has been neglected and could use a good cleaning and refresh (paint, new tablecloths, etc.) The food was not any better unfortunately. The Turkey Club had no lettuce or Mayo, the kids grilled cheese (with added bacon) came out as sad bread with 2 slices of cheese, lettuce and bacon and wasn't grilled. We sent it back home to be grilled. The fries were flavorless and undercooked. When the bull came, we were charged for the full size grilled cheese, fries and drink making it a $16 meal instead of a $6 meal. The server again fixed the mistake but overall we all walked out hungry and feeling ripped off.

D. R. B.

Yelp
this was a local places that had great service and homemade bread The coffee was the weak but the efficient staff with the prompt service made up for it

Kim H.

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito ever! Pancakes not so much. Diner that cooks pancakes that taste like onions or hashed browns. Please cook Pancakes and French toast on separate grill. Charges extra for "real" maple syrup. You are in NH, just adjust price upward to accommodate NH syrup. No one goes to NH or VT for fake maple syrup.

P J S.

Yelp
This was my 'go-to breakfast spot, weekly! Sadly, the news I heard is true. Ordered my usual, egg over medium (it was well done) bacon well done (it came out medium) dry english muffin (barely toasted) Maddie the server was lovely. When I expressed my disappointment she relayed it to manager. It's so quiet in there now, all he said was "she still here?" Regardless of Covid, that was simply poorly addressed by management.

Amanda E.

Yelp
Delicious! I ordered some basic breakfast staples and it all tastes homemade. Portions are a good size. They make fresh fruit pancakes too!

Edward H.

Yelp
The place looks pretty Charming from the outside and Google had pretty decent reviews so I walked in. The interior had me... concerned. It seemed more like a really dumpy Diner on the inside. The ambiance was bad enough to where I chickened out on getting food but the coffee was decent. Overall, I feel kind of bad about leaving three star review when I didn't eat the food but I don't chicken out at new restaurants that frequently.

Grace P.

Yelp
Waited over an hour for our food just to have them come out and tell us they hadn't even started it after not checking on us that whole entire time. Really bad service would not recommend.

Bel Thessa L.

Yelp
The place gives off a very quaint and lovely vibe on the outside but I went to have brunch with a couple of my good friends here a few months ago and I haven't had the urge to go back. Our server messed our order up and the food needs a lil bit of flavor to it. The inside looks okay and is kept clean.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast this morning. The eggs were grey and the blueberry pancakes were great. Loved it!

Homer M.

Yelp
2 or 3 stars. Service wasnt the best, just ok. Ordered coffee and the big breakfast. They forgot about the coffee. I had to ask for it. The big breakfast was nothing special. The wheat bread were burnt. The french toast were dry. Uum just ok overall

Michelle H.

Yelp
My kids and I stopped in for lunch before the Mariposa museum opened at 11. We sat at the counter and waited a ridiculous amount of time before the waitress came back to take our order. She apologized and was nice enough to take our drinks off our bill and the onion rings we ordered. The food was awful. The onion rings came out in one big chunk, my grilled cheese was barely cooked, the soup was watery, and my son's hot dog was barely cooked. I would not eat there again.

Erica B.

Yelp
I've only been here a few times, but it just isn't my cup of tea. If you're looking for a good mom and pop greasy spoon this is your place. If you want a decent breakfast that wont leave you with a stomach full of rocks feeling, probably not your place. I am a plain old eggs, meat and potatoes sort of girl, so I cant speak for anything except that. I think the coffee was watery, but thats my general opinion of most coffee I've tried around here. The staff were very friendly, the timing was appropriate for the amount of people and its a family friendly place.

Hillary D.

Yelp
I have been going to Nonie's for years and years for breakfast. It's the kind of place where everyone in the community congregates, everyone knows each other's name, and everyone has a feel good time. Although they also serve lunch, I love going to Nonie's for breakfast. I usually order an omelette or their giant pancakes. Nonie's also has a resident pastry chef who whips up the goodies you see behind the glass counter. The lemon poppy seed muffins, cranberry orange muffins, and the fresh donuts are wonderful. Great breakfast spot and they also do takeout. When it is warm out, you can dine outside at their cute little iron bistro tables.

Meghan P.

Yelp
Adorable little diner we stopped in for breakfast before heading out on a hike. Server was very friendly and the food was great! Best diner coffee I've ever had. We'd definitely go back!

Peg G.

Yelp
We were just motoring around NH, decided to get out of the vehicle to walk around the pretty town of Peterborough and are we glad we did! Nonie's was busy, all the tables outside among the beautiful garden were taken so we went inside and were dazzled by the array of breakfast treats in their window case. The rasberry muffins were the best we ever had (we brought two home) and the blueberry crumble cake was also a delight! Coffee was fresh and served in large mugs, our favorite way to drink it. Everyone in the place was smiling from the waitstaff to the customers. This is a great diner/bakery that served great looking breakfast plates (I watched them go by at quite a clip) and looks like locals give it a thumbs up by the number of people we saw being greeted by name. The owner was very personable and all of the staff we encountered were so nice. We'll definitely be back whenever we are near there again. :)

Nat S.

Yelp
I love this little gem. It has been around a really long time. My grandfather used to eat here. Ask for the homemade bread, the anadama is amazing, if they have it. You cannot go wrong with the omelets, and they egg dishes. The home fries are a little on the bland side. That is really the only flaw. If you want to be really decadent get the combo breakfasts, and I dare you to eat it all! Or a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Lunch is good too. The fried chicken cutlet is a home run, with swiss cheese. French fries are okay, not my favorite. Carol and Sue have been making people feel at home for as long as I can remember.

Sally B.

Yelp
This place screams small-town New Hampshire. From the word scramble on the chalkboard to the menus posted on the wall to the general atmosphere, it's the perfect place to go for a hot bite to eat and a sense of community. The food is good, prices are reasonable, and the service is great. Mostly, this place is our family's destination when we want to be part of an interesting crowd. I almost always get the Reuben, which is consistently delicious. Try to hit Nonie's earlier in the day, as their small size means that they sometimes run out of pastries, soup of the day, etc. Definitely the only waited restaurant in Peterborough worth a visit.

Bryan R.

Yelp
Decent, not my favorite not my least favorite. I will say that the staff is hit and miss, some people are great to deal with some people roll their eyes after everything you say. Home fries are really boring and uninspiring. I remember reading a review that said the toast was really good, well that's a feather in your cap. There seems to be a little bit of a disconnect for the counter, seems to get lost on who is supposed to wait on you. Looks pretty nice and cozy on the outside a little dumpy and tired on the inside. Eggs Bene are very good, pancakes are can't miss and the corn beef hash is very good.

Deb S.

Yelp
The service is friendly, but a bit hit or miss. Food and coffee are good. They were very busy on a Sunday morning.

Ciel D.

Yelp
A nice mom-and-pop breakfast joint. I have very generous portions, and very friendly staff. Good coffee as well. I had a great western wrap, and my partner had blueberry pancakes, home fries, toast, scrambled eggs. I sampled them all and they were absolutely delicious, and add a very good price.

Jeff P.

Yelp
The real deal - a downtown diner. When the weather is good, sit outside on the patio. Just had breakfast [for lunch!] and it was great.

Mark C.

Yelp
Perfect place to stop for a quick bite when I'm busy with work. I've been here twice and my omelette was so good the first time that I ordered the same omelette my next trip back. I get the works omelette with Jalapeño and it's been amazing each time. The cheese was melted perfectly on my 2nd omelette so it was creamy.

Joe S.

Yelp
OK food. Service was friendly. Ordered an omelette that came with home fries and toast. Omelette was delicious. Home fries had no seasoning. Just deep fried potato cubes. Oh well. At least the rye bread was tasty. Overall, the food was just OK, however the service is very affable. I did notice that my clothes smelled of stale "diner air" the rest of the day. So gross. As an aside, in my opinion, the very best breakfast available in the Monadnock region is served at Fiddleheads in Hancock.

Steven L.

Yelp
Friendly first class breakfast place. Really really good food. You absolutely must try the homemade bread toast.

E C.

Yelp
Best breakfast in the monadnock area by far love the homemade beads and the Mexican omelette is to die for

Ross T.

Yelp
Traditional Diner fare in a pretty turn of the century brick building with outdoor seating in good weather. Breakfast is always good, but the lunch items I've tried have been great. Very flavourful burgers, good sized burgers rivalling any other specialized restaurants. Really good turkey club sandwiches that are too big for one person to consume and a Ruben sandwich that's as good or better than I've had at any deli or high end restaurant. Great Diner!

Deryn S.

Yelp
Good banana pancakes. Service was alright. A good place to go for breakfast or brunch.

K J.

Yelp
If zero stars were an option I would give it ZERO... but one it will need to be. We are not from town and stopped in for breakfast this past Sunday. The place was busy and looked cute- we walked in and there were people waiting to be seated. 1 couple was sat and then there were 3 of us standing there in the doorway. We were opening and closing the door as waitresses brought food out to people outside- the best we got was a side smile. And we stood... waiting... no Hello- no being sat down. We all just STOOD there. After TWENTY minutes of still no acknowledgment of our existence we left. There were empty tables and empty spots at the counter- the people there just didn't a crap that 5 people (more came after us) were just standing there staring at them waiting to be seated or directed to what needed to happen. While we stood there we listened to a few tables complain about missing drinks or burnt food.... meanwhile one waitress was just standing talking about needing pennies and the other was standing in the corner drinking her juice! SOOOOO aggravating! At minimum you GREET customers when they come in- it was as if they were annoyed more customers were there. NO eye contact at all (and the place is small) RUDE!

Mark W.

Yelp
A vsiti prompted by a bad experience at the Peterborough diner (see my review). We were still hungry ( we didn't finish our food at the diner) this place was hopping , the food being served looked great and yes we wished we had seen this place first. We had an egg bagel sandwich , a bagel with cream cheese and a muffin. the coffee was good, the service good and we will be going for a full breakfast on our next visit ...I hope to add another star then.

Barry B.

Yelp
Ordered scrambled eggs with ham, sourdough toast with no butter. Got scrambled eggs with bacon, and buttered white toast. Called it to the waitress's attention, after finishing my eggs finally got the ham and later the sourdough toast - but it was buttered. Waitress never asked how it was. When trying to pay on the modern credit card terminal (where you sign with your finger, paperless) I accidentally hit a larger tip than the small one the service deserved. Sorry, they had no way of cancelling the transaction. Next time I'll pay cash & leave no tip.

Laura Keith K.

Yelp
Nonie's is a great little "diner-like" breakfast and lunch spot. Very friendly, and great burgers.

Kate C.

Yelp
Thought I'd try it out since it's a popular spot but I was really disappointed. The food was bland and two of us got stomach aches after. The service was terrible and the place just did not feel clean. Afterward we walked around and there were many other spots I wish I had chosen instead.

R H.

Yelp
Oh wow! Best breakfast we've had, in a long time! The pancakes were so very tasty! Waitstaff was very friendly and prices were a little up there, but very much worth it! Where We live, there aren't any good food places, and we miss that, so we really appreciate a great food place! To die for veggie egg omelet, too! All real veggies.

Danielle L.

Yelp
Perfect little breakfast place (for older folks) but we fit in just well! Walked in, place was full but we were able to find two seats at the counter. This place reminds me of the Peach Pit...anyone that grew up in the 80's/90's will understand that! We had great service, very attentive (possible family run?). I ordered the croissant with an egg over easy and my husband the mexican omelette, coffee and an iced coffee. I will say the iced coffee was very tasty! The food came out prompt and very good. Not much you can do to make breakfast food bad. But this was a good place and making me hungry again as I write this review.

Karen M.

Yelp
Had lunch here with my Mom and my energetic 5yr old twins. The waitress knew exactly how to deal with us while still be efficient and fast. For simple lunch of chicken ceasar salad, loaded with grilled chix breast, grilled cheese and fries for one of my girls, and a bagel for the other, lobster roll with sweet fresh lobster and fries. It was a good value with kid tolerance in a cute, quaint place. Their muffins looked fantastic, maybe on next trip up.

A. A.

Yelp
Nonie's Is a great little spot to visit in Peterborough! They have delicious pancakes and other foods! The bakery is great! Great service! Stop in if you are in town for breakfast!

Rd D.

Yelp
Went there for a third time. Food and service are great. Pretty sure I have always ordered off the specials menu and have not been disjointed! My sandwich came on homemade oat bread.

Cameron W.

Yelp
We came for breakfast a few times, and liked it. I thought it was a little slow, and the counter was a little dirty, but the food was good. She remembered us when we came back, which was nice. Good pastries!

M T.

Yelp
The kitchen is so dirty. I had a friend who worked there and she said there is a layer of grease on the kitchen floor. So gross! The food always does have a greasy taste to it. Go to 12 pine instead..

Lynus C.

Yelp
Service slow as molasses. Waitress was a bump on a log. Ordered double bacon and got a whole 2 pieces. Home fries need to step it up. Nice location.
