Originating in Kalamazoo, Nonla Burger just opened a location in Grand Rapids on the busy Bridge Street. Their specialties are crispy chicken sandwiches, burgers, and fries. The menu is concise and they do these classics well. They also have a daily milkshake and a food special of the day. I was really hoping to see more Vietnamese influenced options, as they used to have a more Vietnamese-centric menu at one of their Kzoo area locations. Hopefully they can bring some of those items back in the future. You can get your food "Nonla way" with grilled onions, jalapenos, cilantro, and cucumbers, so there is a bit of Vietnamese influence there. Just wish they had more!
Upon entering, we were given menus and told we could sit wherever. They also said we could order using the QR code at the table, or order at the iPad at a different counter. I think it's nice to have an option for those who might not want to order in person. They were doing plenty of takeout orders as well - you can order online ahead of time and swing by to pick up your food.
I've been to the Burdick Street location in Kalamazoo before, so I'd already tried most of the menu. That location is a lot smaller and more of a takeout type place, whereas the GR location is large with plenty of seating. We got the single NB cheeseburger meal that comes with fries and a drink, as well as the hot chicken sando.
Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was hot and fresh. The chicken sando was super crispy, but not at all spicy. I like the chopped pickles. The burger was probably my favorite of the two, with a juicy patty, a nicely toasted bun, and crisp lettuce and fresh toppings. The fries were perfectly seasoned and fried well. They are waiting on a liquor license as they just opened within the past week or two, and their fountain pop machine was out of order but they had cans of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, etc.
Ordering via the QR code was a little problematic for me as I forgot to cash out until after we had left! Definitely make sure to close our your tab after ordering. It's easy to do because it's through Toast and they text you a link to access your bill, or you can do it through the Toast app. They have a little area with some arcade games like Ms. Pac Man and a candy claw machine. I also loved the mini foosball table in one of the corners.
Nonla Burger is a nice casual spot to grab a burger in this area. Pricing was decent and I'll be back!
