On the Grid : Nook Restaurant

"When you want something done right, you do it yourself; that’s essentially the story of how this rustic, family-style, Southern Italian restaurant was started. Since 2009 Nook has been a staple in the casual dining scene in Vancouver, and a go-to spot for delicious pizza, pasta, cocktails, and wine. I like sitting at the bar and checking out the rest of the room; I also like (no wait—love) the Salami Pizza, the Burrata and Prosciutto plate, and an Aperol Spritz to wash it all down." - Amer Alkhatib

We shared a Ricotta Pizza, and loved it. I added anchovy on half, but it didn’t work as well as I had hoped. The anchovies were great though. The tiramisu was also delicious. The couch we sat at was really comfortable, and we were fortunate enough to get a corner spot. We liked the candles and the servers were very nice and accommodating, and we enjoyed the Hawaiian pig shirts. Will definitely return when I’m in the area.

Service was great. The restaurant was super busy and it was during the liquor strike so it was a bit of a challenge to get the wines we liked, but our server was super helpful. The food is very tasty. I had a special pasta that was excellent! The only thing we found strange was that you couldn’t get high balls, my husband wanted a rum and Coke and they don’t have a bar set up to do that. That seemed odd. This was back in October so maybe things have changed.

Still the best in Lower Lonsdale! We love coming to Nook for not only the great food and drinks but also the great and friendly service. We always order one each of their daily specials for antipasto, pizza and pasta, and we’re never disappointed having tried new flavours and local ingredients served in Italian dishes is amazing. Their regular menu is also great and we have go-to comfort dishes that we also enjoy.

We had a great dining experience on a Friday before exploring The Shipyards night market! We arrived around 4:15pm to catch Happy Hour (2pm-5pm daily), it wasn’t busy. •Service: excellent! Greeted and seated right away. We knew what we wanted, so ordering was quick, as was receiving our food. Staff were friendly, easy going, and attentive. I especially appreciated that our server came before Happy Hour ended to ensure we were done ordering from that menu so we didn’t miss the cutoff. •Atmosphere: comfy-casual. We ate outside, so I can’t speak to the inside, but the patio’s incredible! Comfy seats, nice breeze, umbrellas for cover (hence the red tone in the photos), and music wasn’t disruptive. •Margherita Pizza, 5/5: one of the best pizza crusts I’ve had! It’s not too heavy or too thin, with the perfect amount of char. Toppings were perfectly portioned, fresh ingredients. Also, the tomato sauce is VERY good. I’d get this again in a heartbeat. For $17 at Happy Hour, it’s a great deal! As a smaller eater, I ate 3 pieces. •Pepperoni Pizza, 5/5: my friend ordered this, and loved it! Loaded with pepperoni, which had great flavor, and wasn’t overly salty. As a bigger eater, they had 2 pieces remaining. •Fresca Fizz, 4.75/5: the white peach makes this. Light, refreshing, not too sweet. For $5 at Happy Hour, give this a try!

We ordered three pizzas and they were all amazing, but the spicy one was absolutely outstanding I loved it so much. It came with extra parmesan and chili oil, both really good quality. The service was quick and friendly, and the place was clean with a nice view. Honestly, no complaints at all. We really enjoyed it and I’d definitely go back.

Friendly service, pizza and the focaccia were excellent. The sign on how to use the washroom is helpful for.

Nook Shipyards is spectacular. Great patio and service. The peach prosciutto burrata pizza special is a top 3 pizza I’ve ever had in my life. Need to make this a permanent option.

Compared to my previous visits, my opinion has changed. The rigatoni was average and the pizza lacked flavor; however, all the ingredients were fresh. Hope get better.
