On the Grid : Nook Restaurant

"When you want something done right, you do it yourself; that’s essentially the story of how this rustic, family-style, Southern Italian restaurant was started. Since 2009 Nook has been a staple in the casual dining scene in Vancouver, and a go-to spot for delicious pizza, pasta, cocktails, and wine. I like sitting at the bar and checking out the rest of the room; I also like (no wait—love) the Salami Pizza, the Burrata and Prosciutto plate, and an Aperol Spritz to wash it all down." - Amer Alkhatib

++Great Food! ++Great Service! ++Great Time! ++Reasonable Prices! ++While we had to wait about 20 minutes for a party of 6, it was quick and well worth it! ++Constatine (see photo, got permission) made great recommendations, of which we ordered two super yummy items (see photo of both): ++1) Pizza with finocchiona, roasted red peppers, buffalo mozzarella, caramelized onions, on a tomato base; ++2) Crostini with presto, semi-dried cherry tomatoes, and burrata. ++3) Pizza with ezzo pepperoni, pomodoro, and parsley (no photo,  item was on menu, attached). ++While we ordered various drinks, the Montepulciano (see menu) was a great pairing and it's full-bodied flavor was enhanced by the Pizza and Crostini...WOW! ++I ONLY rate and comment on the best; anything less is not worth my time and certainly not yours! ++Your taste buds will thank you!

On our first night in Vancouver, we ate late. Luckily, the "Nook" stayed open until 10pm. We arrived to the Nook and they were very friendly and welcoming... We ordered the special "Carbonara Mafalde" and the Margherita Pizza. OMG, the Carbonara was very delicious. The guy who took our order said, they o ly have it every now and then. Guess it was our lucky night !!!

Limited menu for happy hour between 4pm and 5pm everyday. I wanted to get order pizza and checked with the server the decisions between prosciutto arugula and anchovy pizza. She asked how salty I can handle as anchovy is quite salty. So I ordered prosciutto as it’s the less salty one. Then she said I can add anchovy on the prosciutto pizza - I don’t get it. If anchovy is saltier than prosciutto and I ordered the less salty one and she said I can add anchovy on top? Totally doesn’t make sense. There are situations to push for more sales but in this incident, totally not appropriate and unprofessional.

We had takeaway so to be kept this in mind, but it was farcically overpriced! Movie theatre food. Usually we order at Ignite, which is very good. For the same price, this feels like we ordered at 7 Eleven. smh

I really enjoy this lovely restaurant! I like ordering from them because they're so local to the West End, and I appreciate being able to eat at home. However, they don’t take reservations, which is frustrating. To my knowledge, it's the only location that doesn’t accept them. Additionally, they offer different non-alcoholic drinks compared to the Kitsilano location, which feels a bit limiting.

Arrive early! They opened at 5pm when we went and it filled up in no time. It’s quite small so it has a good charm to it. They have a nice bar style seating as well. With the fire from the pizza oven, the warmth of the place contributes to the ambiance. The food is excellent and the portions are generous as well. The pizza has a good crust and the ingredients are of good quality. The same goes for pasta. Excellent quality. The staff is nice and not pushy but they are busy bees.

Ordered the pizza on special. It was exactly what we needed and it was tasty, the vibe of the restaurant was fun, and the food came quick. Roasted garlic on the pizza is a must have!!

Walking into Nook felt like stepping into a place I’d known for years, even though it was my first visit. The atmosphere is warm, comforting, and effortlessly familiar — a small, cozy space that instantly puts you at ease. The wait staff was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, striking that perfect balance of hospitality and space. We had Steven and he was great! But the real star of the evening? The lasagna. Hands down one of the most rustic, flavorful renditions I’ve ever had. It was a tower of perfectly layered richness — so many layers I genuinely got lost in them. The smoked buffalo cream added a depth and smokiness that elevated the dish to another level, while the fresh basil cut through the richness just enough to keep every bite feeling balanced and bright. It was so unreal.. I got a second slice to go. Nook is the kind of place you want to return to — not just for the food, but for how it makes you feel.

Yelp
This place was great. Location on point, classic look and feel. I swung thru for a couple glasses of wine while my wife shopped. The staff was very attentive. Loved everything about it and I will be back when we return to Vancouver.

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Nook. The restaurant was quite busy so we had to wait 15mn outside until a table was available. The menu is rather small and I would have liked more options for the pasta for exemple. We ordered tonnarelli cacio pepe to share and it was so bland, barely had any taste of cheese. I have had this dish many times at restaurants in Europe and the pasta is usually so cheese and with fresh grounded pepper. I would not recommend this dish at Nook. The pizza on the other hand was delicious. We ordered the houseade sausage pizza and we were not disappointed. The pizza crust was perfect and the other ingredients nicely cooked. The dessert also deserve praise. Very good tiramisu and panna cotta. Service was quick. Hopefully they manage to do tastier pasta.

Yelp
Always enjoy dinner at Nook. Have to start every dine-in mean with one of each of their flatbreads! Wish they were available on the Door Dash delivery menu too. This is one of those places that I wonder why I don't go to more often.

Yelp
Nook was good. We came here on a Saturday night, when we first got there it wasn't crowded. Later on it did start getting crowded and busy. Nook was a cute little restaurant. The decor was pretty. The service was prompt. Our waitress was nice and friendly. She had a bubbly personality. The food was good. We tried some new things and it was good. It didn't take long to come out. Everything is homemade--even the pasta and bread. I recommend coming here.
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Service was average but not very attentive. We had to ask for our bill 3 times before they brought it. Food was average. The Caesar salad was ok but lacked flavour. We ordered a first pasta but the taste was tasteless and was too mushy that we had to return it and got the spaghetti bolognese. That was much better and pasta cooked al dente.

Yelp
It is always amazing to watch a well oiled machine run so efficiently, and happy. Every single staff member was greeting customers, and even each other with a smile, it was awesome! The excellent culture of this place was noticeable as a customer. The chef tossing fresh pizzas, the bar tender making drinks and helping with appetizers, and the main chef making tons of delicious pasta. This is the only place we ate twice during our visit to Vancouver!! It was a packed house both times we dined here, there were 5-10 guest consistently waiting for tables, and the staff handled it all extremely well! The food was top notch! Highly recommended the panna cotta for desert and this great place in general!

Hilary K.

Yelp
Sarah was incredible! We had the best time chatting with her, and her recommendations were stellar. This is the best food we've had in Vancouver. Do not miss it! Cozy vibe, hip location -- this place is a 10/10.

Cristi E.

Yelp
Chill vibe. Quirky, fun staff. Freaking awesome pizza. That's all you need to know. Delish!

Yelp
I don't understand all the positive reviews for this restaurant. The ambience was nice, but the food and service could definitely be improved. They pride themselves on farm fresh local ingredients, but we didn't seem to experience that in our dining experience there. They offer pizza and pasta so we ordered pizza and it was very disappointing lacking flavor and way too much cheese. We also ordered their "Nook" caesar salad and it was so heavy with anchovies you could hardly taste anything else, again very disappointing. We waited quite some time for our drinks and then after we got our food, no one asked how everything was until we stopped eating because it was not good. Again, very disappointing. Maybe we were dined on an off night or should have ordered pasta instead. We will explore another Italian restaurant on our next visit to Vancouver.

Yelp
Simple delicious food. Upbeat service. A great neighbourhood spot Glad they are in our area. Linda and Kiwi, Ryan always pleased to serve folks.

Yelp
First, the pizza was excellent! Ordering was extremely easy, pickup was super easy, staff were very friendly. We were staying in town and took a super short taxi ride (it was raining hard). If you are in the area, Nook is a no brainer for dinner.

Yelp
This was the best Italian food I have had since traveling in Italy in college. There is a bowl of pesto I ate in Florence that every other bowl of pesto I've eaten in the last 20 years has failed to live up to. The bowl of bolognese I ate here may now be the bowl that puts all future bowls to shame from here on out. The desserts were fabulous the pizza delicious and the gnocchi fluffy and the tiny meatballs tender and delectable. It was so worth the wait for a table in this small intimate space. Additionally Sarah their front of house manager/server/hostess was warm, friendly, efficient, and joyful. She kept the chaos moving and everyone feeling welcome and happy to be there. I hope whoever owns this place knows that she is a treasure and should be kept happy and compensated generously for taking the excellent food and elevating it to a dining experience that will sit towards the top of my meal memories for years to come.

Yelp
We had a lovely time at this restaurant, the staff makes you feel like your family. Claire and Phil took great care of us. The food is amazing as well. We will definitely be back when we're in Vancouver.

Yelp
The food was amazing but my experience in the restaurant was very bad since our server kept being rude to multiple times. Funny fact : as me and 2 friends we were leaving the restaurant and talking about how our server brought so much negative energy, a guy that was walking by said : " were you guys on Nook? I know exatcly which server who are talking about."

Skip L.

Yelp
Excellent wood fired pepperoni pizza and delightful gnocchi. The host and bartender are warm and welcoming .

Yelp
Lovely Italian place. We didn't expect it tastes so good since we ordered take out, but it surprised us. Will definitely come back again next time visit BC.

Yelp
I came here on Saturday evening and wanted to try some good Italian food . I have ordered Whipped Ricotta Crostini and Orecchiette. I feel the portions for crostini was very less for this much price. The Orecchiette pasta we ordered without sausage because we want it to be vegetarian option. It was tasting very good . The nice creamy sauce. The staff was very polite. They helped us to chose good vegetarian option. Will come to Nook again to try some more dishes !!

Yelp
I was pleased to try this place with my friends. We had a nice girls night and I was not exactly sure what to expect, but there were a lot of unique items on the menu. The flavours of the food was well balanced. The Whipped Ricotta Crostini was delightful as it had a Nice balance between savoury and sweet. The roasted hazelnuts were a nice touch. The House made sausage pizza was surprisingly nice and light. There was a nice equilibrium of veggies and meat. My favourite was the Rigatoni. Between the three of us, this was a substantial amount of food and I will definitely comeback just to try other menu items.

Yelp
Service was fast (we had rented bikes so we had a deadline). Focaccia bread was incredible. Soft and crispy at the same time. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Mmm love Nook. Waited 40 mins for table on a Thursday but worth it. Wines are great. Food is fast and consistently great. I don't even like tiramisu but I would have had a second piece. BELLISIMOOOO

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Friday night. Bit of a wait and it was freeeeezzzzinggg outside brrr - but worth it! Got the mushroom pasta and oh my so yummy. I also couldn't decided between a red wine so was recommended 2 and given a taste. Definitely appreciated the service and really liked the choice I went with! Overall good food and service - would come back!

Yelp
Ordered the spaghetti Bologne's and rigatoni after being disappointed by the taco joint down the street. Piping Hot when delivered was a plus, but this pasta and sauce was incredibly bland and unimpressive.

Yelp
Love this neighbourhood gem! The food is always fantastic, and it is one of our go-tos. The staff are seriously awesome & so much fun, my favourite is when they do Disco music night, it's a hoot. Definitely come early, as it fills up quickly after opening.
google avatar

Glady C.

Yelp
It's a small restaurant, so be prepared for long waits since they don't do reservations. I was with a party of 4, including myself, on a Friday evening we waited over an hour for a table. We were offered the bar area, but we were 45 minutes into waiting so we might as well continue to wait for an actual table. When the line got smaller, we were offered water and asked if we wanted to order drinks. We ended up getting their rose, and as we got hungrier we decided to start with the whipped ricotta croistini ($9). Our dining time was quite short, probably just over 1 hour, since the food arrived quite quick. We ordered the gnocchi ($22), campanelle ($21), prosciutto pizza ($22), and the funghi pizza ($22). Everything was delicious, but the gnocchi with meatballs was my favorite! The meatballs were bite-size, and the tomato sauce was perfect; it had the right amount of sourness and savoriness to it. Their pizza all had a good crust to it, and they were generous with their topping. If you're up for the wait, I'd recommend this place. But I think their staff are too friendly to limit people's dining time.
google avatar

Ger T.

Yelp
Outta-this-world good gnocchi. Meatballs do have some unchewable residue but boy is that sauce good. Just a perfect hint of spiciness, if you crave more heat there's always chili oil. The prosciutto pizza has an abundant amount of meat on top of a bunch of arugula, just wish there's a bit more sauce on it. Last but not the least their house red (Aglianico) is surprisingly good. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Always on the lookout for good Italian food when we travel. This definitely fit the bill. Loved the atmosphere food and service. All outstanding.
google avatar

Kate G.

Yelp
They only serve wine and a handful of cocktails at this location...so if you want a full bar it is not a full bar. The pizzas and ambience, however is exactly like a nook to sit and love the vibe. Always a great place to take a friend and chat, eat and enjoy great wine!
google avatar

Yelp
Was close to Seaside hotel where we stayed. I had the pasta and kids had pizza, food and service were fantastic.
google avatar

Enrique G.

Yelp
HOME MADE PASTA!!! Yes, they really do it in-house... I landed because of the Yelp rating and was not disappointed at all, service was great, efficient and fast. the food was delicious, we has the special spaghetti smothered in cheese and bacon then the pizza with procciuto and the arugula salad... try it out. a true neighborhood GEM!

Yelp
Nook is absolutely the best Italian food I have ever had. First of all, the environment is great. It truly is a little Nook in the heart of Vancouver. We chose to sit at the bar to avoid the wait for a table, and I'm so glad we did. The woman at the bar (I wish I would have gotten her name!) was amazing. She was super attentive and made sure she explained everything on the menu to us. What's awesome is that she makes all the appetizers right behind the bar, so you can watch her put together the amazing charcuterie plates and salads. We ordered the Foccacia to start -- best decision of the night. It's a legitmate tower of foccacia bread covered in cheese. Tastes great alone, with oil and vinegar, and dipped in their amazing sauces. For our main courses, we split the Rigatoni Boscaiola and the Gnocchi with Mini Meatballs. Both were outstanding -- however, the Rigatoni Boscaiola won be over just a tiny bit. The sauce was creamy, flavorful, and complimented the bacon and mushrooms so perfectly. The Gnocchi was delicious too -- with a more acidic tomato sauce that was a nice break from the heaviness of the Rigatoni Boscaiola. For dessert, we split the Tiramisu and Panna Cotta -- both were absolutely delightful. It was so hard to eat dessert after being full from such a perfect meal, but it was really worth it. The Panna Cotta was my favorite with its subtle sweetness and fresh fruit. However, the Tiramisu was the perfect combination of coffee and chocolate that I would absolutely order again. I don't have enough amazing things to say about this place. I'm so sad I'm not a local, otherwise I would be patronizing this restaurant all the time.

Yelp
On our last night in Vancouver we decided to check out a restaurant only blocks away from our hotel. The place is an Italian restaurant that is small but huge on flavors! As you walk in, on the left side you will see a chalkboard. Here you must write your name and the number of your party. Why? Not sure. I think it's because the place is small so adding another item would make it feel a bit cramped. One side of the place has a bar where food is prepared, and people can sit. The other side has about 7-9 tables. The back has a tiny kitchen, a washing area behind that and a bathroom right behind. The space is very well designed so you really don't feel cramped. We ordered the meatballs as appetizer. The plate came with four big tasty meatballs with lots of grated cheese on top of them. The meatballs were also sitting in a tomato based sauce. We then ordered the gnocchi and meatballs and the orecchiette, which was one of the specials. The orecchiette came in a pesto sauce and cherry tomatoes. Again, both plates had lots of grated cheese on top. Deliciously made, you could taste all the ingredients and you could tell everything was very freshly made. For dessert we ordered a chocolate budino. It was a dark chocolate mouse with some whipped cream and sea salted caramel. We had this one to share. Service was friendly and attentive. She was the only person taking the orders but she was always on point. Kudos to the owners for having a delightful restaurant. Here's wishing them all the luck in the world.

Yelp
Friends have been raving about the Nook for ages.so when someone suggested there for a pre-Christmas dinner with an out of town friend I was excited to go. First of all our server was incredible. Really funny and on it. I think Jen and Kate ordered pasta and Erin ordered the pizza. All was devoured or taken home. I ordered the meatballs and green salad which ended up being fairly expensive but oh so yummy and a great combo! Also server suggested wine and it was good so that was an added bonus. Will definitely go back!
google avatar

Martha J.

Yelp
Wonderfully friendly staff who are attentive and just nice. Wait may be long but the food is surprisingly decent and home made sauces are definitely something that you should try. I had the pulled pork which was flavourful and tasted pretty good. The mixture of quirky decor adds to the homey feeling atmosphere of a comfortable restaurant.
google avatar

Wilson L.

Yelp
Got the spicy housemade sausage pizza and Rigatoni Boscaiola to go and it was amazing! Got the rigatoni gluten free and it was so good, definitely can't wait to try this again for dine in!

Sean A.

Yelp
Pizza is mediocre. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Meatballs for appetizer were poor. Two stars for food. Service was excellent. Very friendly and warm servers. Four stars. Overall very average.
google avatar

Jennie C.

Yelp
Yelp reviews stirred my interest for this restaurant that indeed lives up to its name in tables. But that's the ONLY thing small about Nook. The chefs' innovative combination of classic flavors has HUGELY reinvigorated my taste buds for Italian basics. With head chef Sean and his sidekick pizza chef David, accompanied a team of friendly and informative servers - Jonathan, Andrea and Linda - tonight was truly #extra! Dinner included (1) the Special: pizza (pancetta, Scamorza (smoked mozzarella), cherry tomatoes and sunflower shoots. (2) Rigatoni Boscaiola was the perfect balance of saltiness and the pasta was impeccably cooked. The tang of the sun dried tomatoes and meaty mushrooms completes this dish. Finally a cappuccino and tiramisu to top off a great and delicious evening.

Samantha B.

Yelp
Spent the afternoon at Kits Beach and didn't have to venture far for a superb Italian meal. They don't take reservations but didn't have to wait long for a table for two on a Friday night. Very friendly and welcoming staff who were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant with delicious pasta! This restaurant is smaller than most and you may expect a wait as it can get quite busy. Good thing is you can put your name down and walk around Robson street while you wait. The service was great and the atmosphere as well! Here are some of the dishes I tried here!
google avatar

Sangeetha M.

Yelp
Really amazing food and it was made relatively fast too. It is a rather small restaurant with a good ambience. It was completely packed when I came in but the server was attentive and took our orders quickly. I tried their gnocchi which was amazing! The little meatballs were so delicious. I recommend the food but one thing I wish was that they had more dessert options. I can't remember the name of the dessert I ordered but it was a chocolate mousse with salted caramel. The chocolate was orange flavoured which I didn't like.
google avatar

Gabriela R.

Yelp
Nook, the sister restaurant of Tavola is smaller, buttttt they serve wood-fired oven pizzas. To start, I had the burrata, pepper, hazelnut, and honey crostini. Hold me down, it was heaven. I've never had a better crostini in my life. The fact that they offer wood-fired oven pizzas is a massive plus (Tavola doesn't). I had the spinach, garlic, and kalamata olive pizza. Original flavor, great crust, maybe a lil' too much garlic for my taste....but still pretty damn good. 4 stars on the meal, 5 on the crostini.
google avatar

Tony U.

Yelp
Nooks a loud seemingly bar/pizzeria place just off Vancouver's primary restaurant area off of Robson on Denman. Atmosphere wise, it's a little too loud and tavern-ish for me to frequent, but if you're in a mood for going and making noise, this place will work. As much as I enjoyed the music played here (Van Halen, The Pretenders, you know, classic rock), the noise because of how the sounds bounce make the place uncomfortable for the stomach. Food wise, there's a decent assortment of wines by the glass (will set you back $10-15) and the wood fire pizzas are pretty decent. I had the salami and the proscuitto and quite enjoyed them. The service is a little slow at first, but once you're seated, they're pretty quick and reliable. If you don't like pizzas, their antipasto dish isn't bad and their pastas are pretty good. We came with kids and I wouldn't recommend you do the same. Although they'll accommodate children, it seems to be more of a place for single adults looking to blow off a little steam. All in all, the food quality's pretty good, service a little slow at first but good they've engaged your presence, and the vibes loud and unsociable unless you like talking loudly. I'd consider coming here again if I were in the right mood with a bunch of loud friends.
google avatar

Carly S.

Yelp
This is my go-to place for a nice pizza dinner. The space is cozy, classy but relaxed, and is a fantastic date place. The wood fire pizza is that perfect balance of thin but crispy but chewy dough, and the toppings are all fresh. For starters, I recommend the greens salad (if you want something like a lighter, upscale Caesar-ish salad), chickpea crostini or the burrata and prosciutto antipasto plate (if you haven't had burrata, this is a must-try). My favourite pizzas are the prosciutto arugula (the roasted garlic hidden underneath is divine) or the simple margherita, but all of Nook's pizza is good pizza. The Kitsilano location is best for brunch or bigger parties, the Denman location is great for an intimate dinner, and the Olympic village isomer swank and fresh (also that area is full of great cocktail places for before/after!) Definitely try the Nook(s).
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner at Nook. They don't take reservations and we had to wait a bit but it was worth it. It's a small place so probably not great for large groups. We had a party of 4. The service was great. Very attentive and helpful. We each ordered something different and shared. We had the arugula salad, 2 kinds of pasta dishes and a pizza. It was all delicious. It has a pretty decent wine selection too.
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
Nice casual authentic Italian place, for an intimate dinner. Small place, but great vibe. No reservations so go early, or be prepared to wait. Totally worth it though!

Jossy N.

Yelp
I was in town for a couple of days celebrating my birthday and was in search for somewhere to eat for my birthday dinner. Found that this was one of the most recommended restaurants in Vancouver. It sure fits its name, small but cozy restaurant. Make sure to arrive early because they only have a few tables and it gets busy during dinner time. My party consisted of 4 people including myself. Getting a table was a little hard and we waited for 1 hour, which we didn't mind. We ordered the Gnocchi with mini meatballs, Rigatoni Boscaiola, Spaghetti Bolognese, and spaghetti Puttanesca. Everything was delicious! You can taste the freshness of each of their pastas. If you are in search of fresh made pasta would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Nook is a little hole in the wall that is tucked away on Denman Street. We decided to go here based on a recommendation from a friend as she raves about this place. I am glad that we decided to check this place out. The restaurant itself is fairly small, and does fill up quite fast. There is usually a wait, and you write your name down on the board to be seated. Everyone in your party needs to be presented in order to be seated. The service is fast efficient and friendly. We opted to sit at the bar and the bartender was great. At his recommendation we tried out the focia bread that had ricotta cheese on it along with strawberries and some arugula. It was absolutely delicious and devoured within seconds. I would highly recommend it and you should order it next time you are there. The ambiance is really nice inside the restaurant, you can see the chef making your pizza and fresh pasta right before eyes. The 3 of us shared the margherita, prosciutto and ricotta pizzas. The crest was thin and baked to perfection in their wood over pizza. I personally preferred the prosciutto and margherita pizza. They tasted better than the ricotta one. The ricotta pizza was a bit bland and not as great as the other choices.   Overall it was a good meal and will definitely return to try out their pasta. We made the mistake of ordering three pizzas, should have ordered a plate of pasta and maybe two wood oven pizzas.

Yelp
In from Edmonton on a family trip with my kids, inlaws and my parents. It's a tight small space that the staff immediately reconfigured - on no notice - for us. What a great dinner! Pizza was top shelf, cannot comment on pasta personally but those in my group that had it loved it. On top of my large unanouced dinner party I had my two young sons along. Our waitress made accomadations for them over and above. Cannot recommend this place more. Conor Davis from Edmonton.

Yelp
I would tell you about all of my favorite things to order, and how delicious they are, but that would be a giant waste of time. I've been to Nook probably 20+ times, and do my best to change it up by ordering random things on the menu but I can't seem to catch them slip. This goes back to the age old rule... If you use quality ingredients and pair them correctly, the sauce or pasta won't matter because you have created a flow that will inspire any palate. The burrata is a must. Any pizza (or as Canadians call "flatbreads") will crush your face.... And my personal house favorite, CASARECCE. Mic drop.

Yelp
Amazing food! Amazing service! On our recent trip to Vancouver we weren't having the best luck in finding really great food. I was determined to find a great meal on our last night in town and my Yelp research led me to Nook. The staff was attentive, kind and inviting. The food was delicious. My husband has the special of the day and I asked if they could make a spaghetti pomodoro and found them enthusiastically accommodating. Overall it was a fantastic dining experience and I would highly recommend it if you're having a craving for delicious Italian food!
