"A major renovation breathed new life into this iconic 1950’s North Fork motel, and luckily the twenty-two seat Nookies still captures all the nostalgia of a midcentury roadside diner. There’s still a tuna melt and decadent milkshakes on the menu, but there are some welcome additions to appeal to twenty-first century travelers, too."

Great find! On a chilly winter night Nookies provided the perfect last minute (a rare occurrence, I believe) dinner for two with cool easy vibes and really yummy warming food. Fun retro decor and neat off the beaten path spot in Southold area. We also got a nice quick little tour of the motel and would love to stay here on our next visit out! Will definitely be back!

OMG!! This place is SO CUTE AND THE FOOD DELISH!!! 💕🙌🏻💕~ one Sunday my hubs and I were thinking about brunch but wanted to try a new place! We had seen this featured on Doug Geeds show a while ago! Not having reservations we figured we would see if we could get in for the hell of it! We went a little later for brunch so probably about 12:30. You enter through the main lobby of the motel and we were greeted by the super friendly staff that said there was availability at the time (we just made it!) as it got real busy after. At that point she walked us over to Nookies where we walked into to the coolest, retroish diner vibe!!! Keep in mind this was December and it was cold and gray out but this place was definitely special! I could only imagine what it’s like in the Sunmer!!! The inside was pretty full (as it’s not that big) and we got the perfect seats! 2 seats right when you walk in at the counter! It was SO FUN as you can watch all the action as many of the dishes they are cooking in front of you behind the counter! It was tough to decide what to eat as it all looked so good so decided on the omelette with the salad (AMAZEEEE~ and usually I think omelettes tend to be boring BUT not this one)! ~ I think there was a cheese in it but can’t recall. My hubs got the egg sandwich which he LOVED. And I of course began with a ROSE~ because why the heck not! 😂🙌🏻 All in all this place is a special gem that we will definitely come back to! We are newer to this area (bought in Laurel last year 😊) so so excited to try it out also during the Summer months. Either way if you are in the area be sure to check it out! Space is limited so opt for reservations to be sure you get a seat!! 💕😻💕😻💕😻 #startlovinglife

Before I even get into anything else, We need to Talk about the Chef, Finn. The man is one of the, no, actually he is THE best hospitality professional I have ever met in my life. I cannot praise him enough. I have never seen a chef so in love with the art of hospitality the way he is. Most chefs do not interact with guests the way he does. Also, the food here is the best food you will eat on Long Island. (It's probably some of the best food you will eat period) I stand firmly behind this. This is not the formulaic pedestrian menu with salmon, chicken, steak and a burger checking off the boxes to appeal to the generic masses. This is however, a symphony of incredible, delicious, dishes- stunningly executed. The food is extremely high level, yet also approachable. So if you are a person who wants fine dining quality food without the pomp and circumstance and pretense, this is the place for you. If you want to be in a trendy space that is also warm and welcoming this is the place for you. It is levels above anything else anywhere on both Northfork and The Southfork. It is also shockingly well priced. As a New York City transplant who lives with a trained chef, this is the only restaurant I actually feel is worth going out to eat within a 40 mile radius. You can taste how much the Chef loves what he does and how much he wants you to be there. I am done settling for less than that anywhere else, and being served low effort uninspired meals.

Stayed at the Silver Sands for one night (Sunday) of Veterans Day weekend. We were able to walk in at about 6:45pm and sit at the counter. If you want a table, highly recommend a reservation in advance especially during in season. I loved sitting at the counter though, as it was fun to see the talented kitchen staff prepare the food. The space itself is beautifully redone - staying true to its roots with a nostalgic tone but with modern fun touches. Upon coming here, I was initially a little sad that I wouldn’t be able to try their breakfast/lunch menu as they are closed on Mondays, but I have to say, this was honestly one of the best dinners of my life. The menu is simple and seasonal, providing both delicious and nourishing meals that I surely won’t ever forget. To start, we had focaccia a la nookies and the special, boiled oysters. The oysters ended up being my absolute favorite dish of the night. They are farmed right from the private beach on the property. The staff was also kind enough to give us a sample of the little neck clam salad, also delicious. Careful - this one was spicy with the long hots! We also had the koginut squash, the crispy chicken, and the chocolate mousse special and all were simply fantastic. I had never had koginut squash before and the way it is prepared is outstanding - brown butter with vincotto (a mild vinegar) with some toasted pistachios and OMG. Don’t sleep on this!!! So unique and haven’t stopped thinking about it for days. The drinks were also on point. We had a white sage gin fizz and a Manhattan, both expertly crafted. I want to give a special shout out to Maggie, the beverage director, who helped us during our meal. She is an absolute gem! She took time to check in on us, answer our questions, and went out of her way to make sure we had an extraordinary experience. It’s people like her that remind us how special Greenport is, and why we keep coming back. Regardless of the incredible recognition Nookies has received, staying true to superb hospitality and building relationships is the foundation of an excellent restaurant and how I know it’s here to stay. Thank you so much for a memorable evening - can’t wait to see you again soon!

Wow. Went to Nookies based on a friends recommendation, and they didn’t do it justice. The place is so cozy, designed like a diner with an open kitchen. The food was outrageous. We started with focaccia and whipped ricotta, that rivaled what we had in Italy. Something as simple as the manicotti was so elevated and complex. My husband had the pork cheek and pears, which was falling apart and unbelievably balanced and flavorful with such thought. The chef knows what they are doing. The staff were all fabulous and friendly, with great suggestions and conversations. Hidden just outside the main area of Greenport, this place is a MUST visit! Enjoy!

Google
Out of the way gem. We were traveling home via ferry and were looking for a brunch spot. We’re pleasantly surprised on the quaint diner with farm fresh food and amazing service. Thanks for the ice coffee roadie Lyla. If you wanna sit outside it’s take out only. Pro tip order ahead place was super busy.

Had a great breakfast at nookies! It was a nice place to go for a change of scene (as a local/non-guest). The food was really good but not ground breaking. I tried the egg sandwich and pancakes. I would definitely the sandwich again, but the pancakes were pretty standard. I'm excited to try their dinner soon!

Yelp
Perfect breakfast on vacation! We stopped by here two days in the row, we had a short stay. We tried it once and had to stop by again. Food was delicious, we ordered different things on the menu, eggs and pancakes and sandwiches. And even the simple tea was very good! Service was great, amazing people who work there, helpful, patient and friendly! The dinner inside is so adorable, decorated with 50th in mind, so cute! And if it's nice outside you can grab your food to go and enjoy the view! Thank you!

Yelp
Cute small breakfast diner vibes . Sausage Egg & Cheese was so good & the smash burger surprisingly was not heavy or greasy ! Would definitely stop by again

Yelp
Incredibly re-done little restaurant at the Silver Sands. Everything we ordered was 10/10. Especially enjoyed the beats, sourdough and the brothy beans fish dish. Our bartender recommended blood orange cosmos which were a hit. Overall really enjoyed the experience and will be back!

Yelp
Step back in time and enjoy comfort food Classics in this diner. Nookies offers up neo-1960's decor with a breezy nautical spin , classic comfort food just like grandma served and friendly, efficient service. Stop by for breakfast or lunch. You'll love it!

Yelp
Breakfast just like your Grandma used to make, that is if your Grandma was Julia Child. In a 1950's diner setting you get food that would be considered gourmet if it was in the heart of Greenwich Village. Wonderful food, service and ambience.

Yelp
Quirky fun, def not ur mom's diner. Young crowd retro motel has a fairly small breakfast cafe with creative twists to all of breakfast favorites. Mel's Diner meets B-52,s atmosphere. If you're in Greenport for 2 days you do Bruce's one day and Nookies the next

Yelp
Great classic diner rebirth. Cosy quarters booth seating. Homemade food best version of each dish. Pancakes worth the calories. Biscuits with melted butter and berry compote amazing. Grilled cheese on rye kills. The menu and attention top notch.

Yelp
I took a day trip out east yesterday and stopped at the Silver Sands Motel. This newly renovated 50's-style seaside motel and beach bungalow property on the North Fork of Long Island has a modern retro chic beach vibe and is a real gem! The vibrant turquoise, coral, and pink hues, old fashioned beach umbrellas, and retro pseudo art deco beach decor are absolutely charming. We were completely captived and decided to eat brunch at their retro-like diner/restaurant, Nookies, nestled against their sandy beach that faces Shelter Island. The food was tasty and the staff was very attentive. The manager, Kimberly, was super friendly and accommodating, making our experience that much more special. Add this to your list of places to check out for the day or even stay for the weekend!

Yelp
I really enjoyed a early dinner with my family. Nookies is a hidden gem, with good food, great service and ambiance that's second to none. Im looking forward to going back for breakfast. If your looking for a quaint place to visit, with nice people this is for you. Please be respectful to others. Thanks-Rick

Yelp
Wonderful place. Highly recommended going for dinner, everything we had was amazing. The focaccia bread is 10/10. We went back for breakfast and so glad we did. Excellent service. If I lived nearby I'd go back frequently.

Yelp
I am a life long Greenporter with a lot of suspicion for the new restaurants that always seem to charge a ton and never really nail it. We just had dinner at Nookies and it was one of the best meals I've ever had- better than restaurants in NYC and beyond. We had a truly amazing salad, stunning oysters, a beautiful pasta and ridiculously good chicken livers and porchetta. We came in for a snack and just kept ordering more bc it was so good. The quality of the meat and veggies was the best of the North Fork. The prices, for the quality of this food, we're fine. Our ample compliments to the chef. We will be back.

Yelp
I almost didn't pull off the highway because there was no clear sign advertising the cafe, I'm so glad I did. The decor is modern and yet classic diner. Staff was friendly and on their game. Hash browns, egg sandwich, and blueberry pancakes were all delicious. Well definitely be back!

Yelp
Excellent service, unique menu choices, great cocktails, fabulous food. Nookies has it all. But make a reservation because it fills quickly.
