This hotel suite was perfect for myself and my husband! It was perfectly designed with quality finishes, it had a great bathroom, kitchen/living room and the bedroom had a barn door with the coziest bed! The balcony was a fun addition to stand and look at the neighborhoods up the hill and all of the activity at the breweries on the street below. We would stay again! I highly recommend staying with the Norblad!

Wonderful stay! Our room was immaculate. Our king size bed was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed a very quiet nights rest. Our suite had a modern bathroom with excellent shower. We did note some of the rooms did not have bathrooms and showers. We received excellent service and the hotel was close to everything we wanted in Astoria. Very cool breweries within walking distance; a farmers market and an excellent bakery. We would stay here again for sure.

Charming hotel, with very friendly and welcoming staff. Everything was very clean and pleasant. Despite being shared, the bathrooms and showers felt private and secure, and we never had to wait for one to open up. The sink in the room was a very welcome touch. We appreciated the posted quiet hours and found our room to be quiet, without much noise from other guests or the street (except for the garbage truck that came by pretty early.) Definitely would stay again!

I absolutely recommend this hotel! My husband and I stayed in the Milky Way suite in the Astor bldg. It was so adorably decorated and very clean and quiet!! The bed was also comfortable. The check-in experience was really easy and the front desk staff were so nice!! I wish we had more time to spend in the lobby and listen to records. I loved the vibe. We will definitely stay here again if we visit Astoria in the future. The location was also fabulous.... right by so many shops and coffee places! Truly a gem. 💓

This was well worth it to stay at the Norblad as it's one of the better hotels I have ever stayed at. Centrally located in downtown Astoria so yes, there will be noise during the day but didn't have any issues at night (though they will provide ear plugs if you are a light sleeper). I stayed in the Astor Suites part of the property, which is the taller building across the street. I booked the Overlook Suite, which gives you pretty much the best view in town, from the 7th floor you can see all of downtown, the Astoria-Megler Bridge, the opening of the Columbia River int he distance and then all the way in the other direction as well. The room has a small step out balcony and from every spot in the suite you can see the river and all the massive ships going around. I could have spent the entire time watching ship traffic from the room. The bed was on the softer side for my personal preference but overall the space was very modern, clean, and comfortable. They also have robes which is a must have for hotels anymore. There is an elevator that was very reliable though you will see other people that are not hotel guests coming and going, which was never an issue. There is parking on the back side of the building that is an extra $20 for the entire stay, which was nice versus having to move the car around during the day. The whole town is within walking distance of the hotel, which lots of amazing dining and bar options just around the corner. Would absolutely stay here again!

Google
Great spot for walking to restaurants and to the water. Towels, sheets, and robes were wonderful! Appreciated no tv's and the option to borrow a record player- just do it early as by the time we asked they had all been given out. Our room was nice with an en suite bathroom but we unfortunately heard people at night coming and going to the bathroom down the hall. The building is old and so are the door handles and keys- and some people are more respectful than others. No fault of the hotel but we also heard two men screaming at each other on the street outside the bar at 3:00am. We loved the location, the friendly service, and the quirkiness but we will likely stay someplace quieter next time.

We were staying at the Norblad for Goonies Weekend. We had booked early, so we were happy to have such a great place downtown. We love to stay at small, funky hotels with their own personality and vibe. The Norblad has that. Since there are no televisions in the room, you have an option to check out a record player, and they have a bunch of records in the lobby you can play. We had multiple interactions with Cisco at the front desk, and he even graciously let me borrow a record from his personal stash. For our room, the bathrooms and showers were down the hall, but we don't have an issue with that, and we never had a problem getting in when needed. We will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is the best! We had a suite room right off the reception area. There was a kitchen close for tea making in the morning. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. Big huge windows that opened with fresh air blowing in. Easy walking everywhere.

Yelp
For those unfamiliar with Astoria, the Astor Building houses businesses on the lower floors but the top few floors have rooms reserved as suites that are part of the Norblad Hotel, which is kitty-corner across the street. I was in Suite 802, eight (top) floor NE corner. If you want an experience that's more like living in a small apartment verses staying in a hotel, then the suites at the Astor Building might be a good option for you. When I went mid-week, the whole floor was quiet. In fact, I'm not sure I had any neighbors at all. There was some mild street noise even 8 floors up, but it was minimal. I had a commanding view of both the Astoria hillside and the Columbia River. It was most impressive. Complementing the very functional kitchen was a comfortable living room area, separate bedroom, and nice bathroom. No TVs here, so go out and explore the wonderful city. This location is actually very centrally located to many bars and restaurants. I could see Fr. George Brewery on the street below from my window. I really enjoyed staying in my suite. My only real issue was that there were no curtains for the bedroom windows. Blinds, yes. Curtains, no. Odd, because they had dark curtains in the living room. When I'm on vacation, I really enjoy sleeping in. Hard to do that when the sunrise blasts you, especially if you're on the NE corner. My limited interaction with the staff was positive. And given the only hiccup was the lack of bedroom curtains, I would stay there again.

Yelp
Service was good and staff was helpful. However, I didn't do my research! This is a hostel! I was more concerned about a pending surgery and was just looking for a quick overnight. After looking at several sketchy motels we found this one. After circling the building I discovered that you had to climb a flight of stairs to get to the lobby. I then discovered that the bathrooms are NOT in the rooms. Good news though....the rooms were nice and reflected this historic building nicely. The bathrooms were clean and acceptable. If you're tight on funds this is a great option.

Yelp
We stayed for Festival of Dark Arts in the Astor Building in the Joshua Tree suite on 7th floor. The bathroom and kitchenette were well appointed. I wish there was a comfy chair or recliner to hang out in. There was just the bed and table and chairs to eat at. The view to the Megler Bridge and the town up the hill was nice. Check in was easy across the street. There is no elevator in the building to check in. The Astor Building had a very fast elevator. We plan on staying with the Norblad when we go back again.

Yelp
Booked this place as last minute based on plan changes. We were fortunate to find street parking right out front. The whole parking thing was confusing as it is all two hour on the street until 6pm and I assumed maybe the hotel had some sort of allocated spots but that is not the case. The area is hopping so there is no guarantee you will park close. There is no elevator and it is three flight of stairs so be prepared. The hotel is beautiful and steeped in history. We booked a suite with a private bathroom. The room was great with a couch, chair and king size bed. The windows were huge and old. No screens in these between you and outside. It was a warm day and there is no ac so between the breeze and the ceiling fan we got it to a comfortable temperature. There is no TV but they offer iPads if you so desire. The bed was amazing! They really invested in quality there. The bathroom was beautiful and had everything we needed. There was a small fridge in the room but they offer a community kitchen with a huge fridge and all amenities you would need. This place is different as they have a hostel type setup mixed with rooms with private bathrooms and some short term rentals all together but it worked great for us. Walls are thin and street noise is easily obvious but we popped in the complementary ear plugs and sank into the bed with no problems. The area is super walkable for shops and food offerings which was great because we were afraid to move the car and lose our spot. I would absolutely recommend this as a stellar option if you are staying in Astoria!

Yelp
whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, this place is going to make you happy! it's clean, got a great vibe and cool community spaces including a shared kitchen for all to access, very friendly staff and a great location. you'd have to sleep at fort george or blue scorcher bakery to get any closer to those two amazing businesses. as a matter of fact, the proximity of the hotel norblad might make you want to roll out or into bed after patronizing them :) key point here: do not sleep on a visit to each----both are amazing! easy peasy to make an online reservation and don't worry about the street parking. it's 2 hrs and free anytime between 9am-4pm. i had no trouble getting parking essentially right in front of the hotel entrance and underneath my room both days i stayed there. even if i hadn't been that lucky. my car would easily have only been half a block away. if you're coming from the big city where you may be used to paíd overnight parking lots or parking apps, there was none of that. it was just so easy it made me yearn for times when things in our daily lives weren't so complicated. as for the places to hang out, there's a cool central area in the lobby with a fireplace and a ton of records. the shared bathrooms looked just as clean as my private one and every day i would see the housekeeping staff hard at working doing the laundry or cleaning rooms that had been vacated that morning, the ice maker in the kitchen was a godsend to be able to access ahead of day trips and i think they also have a pot of coffee brewed each morning. i will definitely come back here! one last thing i will say, without naming names: i had done a fair amount of research of places i might want to stay in town ahead of making this booking. at first, my goal was to stay on the water but i read some reviews of noisy places, thin walls, loud stellar sea lions partying on their own accord and with much higher prices than the norblad, i chose to stay here. while in town and on walks, i made sure to go by the two other places that i'd identified. one was much larger, red in color (does this help you know which one i'm talking about?) and essentially immediately west of the bridge, it looked fancier than i'm used to but lovely, if that's your thing. it didn't look like it would have thin walls or a lot of extraneous noise. the other place is by one of the breweries down on the water, with a clear view to three sea lions who seemed mighty content to be hauled out on the wooden platform both times i stopped by. this place has a bar and outdoor seating which looked nice enough for an afternoon drink but the string of rooms i noticed are directly on the trolley path and right where early morning walkers and runners might be. suffice it to say, i was quite happy with the choice i made to stay at the norblad, i also don't think i would've been as happy with the on street parking options at the second place i investigated. hopefully these insights help others in making informed decisions when deciding where to stay overnight in astoria, but i had such a wonderful couple of days and lucked out with the fall weather, so maybe i'm just looking at everything with rose colored glasses?!

Yelp
3.5 stars. The staff 5/5 stars. The staff was so nice during check in and check out and made the process very fun and easy. They gave us the run down on community spaces and even have record players you can borrow for your room. This hotel is part hostel so you can also choose rooms without bathrooms just sinks and use the community showers and bathrooms if you choose. I loved the overall retro vibe and also the fact that they promote not watching tv or being in your phone. My fiancé and I had a very nice night being unplugged and hanging out and reading which was an awesome night for us! The downsides for me was the sink was severely chipped in the porcelain. The tile in the bathroom floor also needed a little work. The other thing to be very aware of is this building is very old so the walls are pretty thin. You can hear everybody coming and going all the time. I think that's just a given with older hotels though. Overall really did enjoy our experience though.

Sheri B.

Yelp
Great place to stay.stayed in the astro suite 808 ..the history of this place is awsome great view of the ocean this was in astoria oregon..the employees were nice the only thing about this place is there is no TV but the view....thankyou...

Ken T.

Yelp
We've all been to restaurants where the staff hasn't quite finished wiping down the table. It's fine. You know the table isn't your personal property, you're only borrowing it for the next little while. There's no expectation of at least a nod to exclusivity. Now imagine going into your hotel suite after checking in and finding the bed unmade. Different feeling, right? Are those clean sheets, someone else's sheets? What's the deal? I don't know. It's kinda gross. This was the experience of my wife and I on our anniversary trip to Astoria. Doesn't make you want to stay here any longer. So of course I called the front desk. The man I spoke with didn't express very much concern about this. Maybe this is usual in the post-lockdown days? I don't know. Nor did he even apologize. I assumed we'd be moved to another suite but we weren't. He said he would call and look into it and I asked him to call me back and simply LET ME KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. He never did. Someone from the housekeeping staff showed up after a while and stripped the bed and made it up freshly but for me it was too late and the whole vibe was ruined. The only Norblad Hotel person who apologized was the woman from housekeeping. We determined the rest of the suite had been cleaned and I tried to calm down from the apparent lack of concern on the part of anyone in any position of authority. There we no apologies, no attempts to make things right. Nothing. Maybe they were too busy playing records ironically? The hotel is fine. As I said, we rented one of the suites. Someone who undoubtedly has hip credentials decorated the room in mid-century furnishings and ironic photos of Barbie, Ken and friends dolls around a pool and at a snazzy cocktail party. Maybe they were too busy decorating to notice how dirty the windows are and how it compromises the view over part of downtown, the Columbia River and the Willapa Hills. You can always find flaws, especially once I had been primed as described above. This place relies heavily on superficialities for cache and seriously lacks any apparent training in any culture of service. I was there on 06/23/23. I will never stay here again.

Yelp
Best affordable hotel in town. Clean, newly refurbished. Great artwork, bedding, overall decor. High ceilings so room feels bigger than it is. If you can tough it out without a TV and a private water closet, you'll be happy. They provide an ipad with movies, an in room sink, along with bathrobes. Communal bath/shower rooms are newly renovated and clean. Stylishly pulled off, they even give you a Victrola and records at the desk upon request. Get ready for creating your own fun. If you love boutique hotels like North Beach's Hotel Boheme, this place is for you. Right in the center of Astoria. Stumbling distance from everything worth seeing.

Yelp
COVID reivew: This was the first hotel I stayed at when places started to re-open. I enjoyed my stay at the Norblad because it is in a great location, within walking distance to everything. They are also dog-friendly, which was a huge plus to me, because I do travel with my dog everywhere. There was no actual parking for the hotel, but I was able to park my car within the residences and nearby streets for free. I enjoyed the decor of the hotel, it is definitely a modern boutique hotel. For my dog, they had dog bowls and a dog bed that I didn't even request, so I thought this was a nice touch. The front desk clerk was very friendly and provided us with a list of recommendations, since it was our first time in Astoria. I felt that Norblad Hotel was clean and I like that they had hand sanitizer at the entrance of the door. Overall, I felt safe staying here and would definitely stay here again on my next time in Astoria.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Don't expect a typical hotel, and read up on this place first! This isn't a traditional style hotel - the showers and bathrooms are shared. They were clean and well stocked for our stay. -parking is street parking only. Read the info on their site for their recommendations. We only stayed one night so we checked in at 4pm and left at 11am. It's a 2hr max during 9am-6pm so if you're staying multiple nights you'll have do arrange something else for daytime parking. -kitchen is clean and has most anything you could want. The reason I docked one star is: -the floors (at least in our room) are incredibly squeaky. I mean SO loud! -there is a large gap under the room door so you can hear everything happening all around you. -it was 85 degrees outside and there's no AC. Thankfully we got a room facing east so we got shade and kept our windows open the whole time, but the cheaper rooms are facing the inside of the building and I can only imagine how toasty they got. Cisco was kind and helpful and provided great service! The room was SUPER clean! From what I've found, the "boutique-style" hotels in this area don't have AC and some have the same shared bathroom/shower areas. And most have the same parking situation. So this is pretty standard. Just know what you're getting into when booking :)

Yelp
This is our second time staying at the Norblad. We have been extremely happy with our stays on both occasions. As others have said - this is not a traditional hotel so it's important to do your research before booking. With that said, the staff is always exceptionally friendly, and most importantly, the rooms and bathrooms have always felt clean. It's in a great location and really is a perfect jumping off point for experiencing Astoria. We love taking advantage of the record players and vinyl records they have on hand! One of the biggest reasons we continue to book here is that they allow pets! Despite that, the place doesn't feel like a dog kennel, which we appreciate. The carpets, floors and furniture are well maintained. The building itself is cool too. An old, historic Astoria building. They don't make them like that anymore! We'll be back!

Jeannie D.

Yelp
Know the details & enjoy your stay. This spot exceeded my expectations & I will absolutely be staying here again. The vibe was great, Cisco was fantastic and answered all questions at check in. Yes, shared toilets/showers. Not an issue. There are like 4 toilets & 2 showers I believe, I never had to wait to use either. Everything was perfectly clean. Each time I walked into my room, I could smell the cleanliness of the linens. I'm super sensitive to smell - it wasn't over powerful or perfume like. Just clean. It's basic, not frills, but a swanky vibe. No television- doesn't hurt my feelings at all. It's within walking distance of Fort George, food carts, Reveille Ciderworks, as well as the weekend market. It wasn't too noisy on a Saturday night, and they leave early plugs in your room. Super thoughtful being you ARE downtown. I was very impressed, I wasn't sure I'd like it as much as I did. One of the two showers took a little long to get hot water, but it came. They do provide towels for you. I have zero bad or negative to say. I can't wait to stay again!

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed my stay at the Norblad Hotel. It's a small cute, modern hotel. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room has a flat screen tv, table, chair and closet. The room also has a sink because the toilet and showers are communal, which I did not have an issue with since they were all very vary clean and I never had any issue waiting to use it. My only issue with my room was hearing the loud truck(s) outside my window at night/ early morning. Check-in was quick. The front desk guy (Matt? He was an extra in Ring 2) was friendly and recommended great places for me to go to. The lobby area has a bunch of sofas and I saw some board games. It's located in a convenient spot in town. You can pretty much walk to a lot of restaurants and stores. There's free street parking. The hotel does not have an elevator. You will need to walk up a set of stairs to get to the hotel.

Christine W.

Yelp
The beds are comfortable. We usually stay in a basic cabin room, with bathrooms and showers down the hall. Sharing the bathrooms and showers is never an issue. They are always available and clean. The staff is friendly. Love the location too!

Dean B.

Yelp
The Norblad is part hotel, part hostel. It's no-frills but centrally located. I've stayed there before, and it was no-frills-fine. This week, my wife and I were checking into the Norblad for a rare getaway, and were casually informed at check-in that the water would be off in the whole building for 8 hours the following day. No offer to allow us to cancel our non-refundable reservation, no offer of a discount, not even an offer of a water bottle so we could brush our teeth or flush the toilet after they turned the water off. My wife woke up early (on our one full vacation day ) to shower before they turned the water off. She works hard and was really looking forward to a lazy morning. I spent our whole trip asking the front desk person to put me in touch with the manager. I asked before they turned the water off, while it was off, after it was back. The manager was elusive our whole stay - never available. I ended up chatting with him while we checked out. Dude was unapologetic, told me that he couldn't give me a discount, and generally seemed to not care at all that we had such a bad experience. I understand that they had a plumbing issue that needed to be resolved. In my experience, management is about how you handle things when they inevitably go wrong. This was a bad disruption of our stay, materially diminished the value of the accommodations, and dude couldn't even be bothered to say "I'm sorry this impacted your trip". Maybe he was just super high, but I don't think I've ever talked to someone in a management role that was more apathetic and passive. He didn't give a damn that we had a bad stay. So, dear reader, beware. If everything goes right, your stay at the Norblad might be no-frills-fine. If something goes wrong, however, the manager will run and hide and pretend that nothing happened.

Jackalope E.

Yelp
Cockroaches in the room. Front desk gal did her best, but after calling and telling her manager about there being cockroaches in the room. The manager told her to tell us we already received a discount, the 10% received by booking directly online. This was as good as was being offered... Never offered a different room, left right after, don't need to have cockroach eggs brought home etc. if there was in one room and being ignored, they will be in yours at night. Never heard from anyone after leaving, they were happy to charge the full amount the next day though, credit card charge disputed. No response to that either.

Juliana G.

Yelp
Fantastic service, clean, and fun! Vanessa was very helpful in recommending places to eat and drink. She also was very kind and chatty! The room itself was well furnished and clean. It had a couch that could fold down to be like another bed too. There is a kitchen where you can cook, store leftovers in the fridge, or purchase some food as well. Bathrooms and shower rooms are clean and have cute wallpaper. There are no TVs in the rooms but you can check out an iPad and watch Apple TV on them. You can also check out a record player and vinyl and listen to them in your room as well. All free! It gives a similar vibe as a hostel does, but a bit more refined. Not accessible as there are two flights of stairs and I did not notice an elevator. Would absolutely recommend!

Kristina B.

Yelp
Honestly if you know what you're in for - you'll have a good time. Yes it's noisy. It's downtown Astoria - trucks drive in the morning. The brewery across the street turns on music early in the morning. If you're looking for a cozy sleepy place this ain't it. The design and feel of the hotel was unique and modern. The shared bathrooms were not an issue, to be fair ours was next door so we didn't have to walk far but it was always clean and stocked. We LOVED the huge windows. They don't have insect screens but I actually really liked that because I could peak out of the window. It was fun :D Although if I had kids - I'd probably be worried if they opened windows lol The staff are super helpful and friendly! The hotel is clean, unique, great location. We walked to our dinner, breakfast, the shore. Astoria is so charming. We loved it. We would def come back!

Candi K.

Yelp
This was a super cute hotel. You have your own room with a bed, table, sink, closet, and giant window. There aren't any showers or toilets in the room but the bathrooms and showers are right outside the room in a hallway. There is no tv in the room but they have record players and iPads available complimentary. It's located right in the middle of downtown so walking distance to breweries, restaurants, and shopping. There is a kitchen for guests to use as well. Very clean and the front desk staff was welcoming.

Julia H.

Yelp
First let me say that we have stayed at Norblad three previous times, and had good experiences. It's an affordable and generally comfortable option in Astoria. Our last stay was a big disappointment. As other reviews mention, one room (207) is right across from reception. We had stayed in this room before, and it's not pleasant. You can hear every word of conversation at check-in, it's directly across from a noisy brewery, and it's a lot smaller than the other cabin rooms. For this stay, we called Norblad a couple weeks in advance to request any room except for 207. The front desk said it was no problem, and confirmed that we would be in a room on another side of the building, facing Exchange street. When we checked in, we were handed keys to... 207. We were flabbergasted. They had no record of our conversation/request, and the hotel was fully booked and so they couldn't move us. Seems like a pretty big hospitality faux pas to assign a guest to exactly the room they asked not be in. The best they could do was a 20% discount. Appreciated, but this experience damaged my trust in Norblad and it's unlikely we'll come back.

Daryl G.

Yelp
Great spot for low-maintenance travelers! Clean, charming hotel with European-style bathrooms and showers, with a full community kitchen available for guest use. Pros: clean, HOT water in shower, comfy beds, huge windows, right downtown, walking distance to everything, iPads with Apple TV available, vinyl LPs and record players available!! Cons: Bathrooms are not heated (bring slippers!), and staff is loose on mask compliance (theirs, not visitors). Pro tip: Let the shower run as it took a LONG time to get hot when outside temps were below freezing. (Then it was *very hot* and nice!) Note: 2nd story walk-up, no elevator. Shared bathroom and showers. Old building so not very sound insulated. Great place and we'll stay there every time!

Neeca B.

Yelp
In the books as "Most Unique Stay". Front desk area is a room lined with vinyl records, a gas fire place and retro couches. I'm into it. Fella at front desk was pretty great and told us all the pertinent details. We thought the community kitchen would have a fridge, but since it didn't we able to keep it in the office fridge. Only we wouldn't be able to access it from 10pm til 9am, door is locked. If we really wanted something we could ring someone during those hours though. Next morning I go to get the cream for my coffee. I didn't even have to ask, gal at front desk gets it for me. I say morning...no response. I than ask if she wouldn't mind retrieving a few other items of mine from the fridge. She sits back down at her computer. I wait a moment and repeat. No response. Another gal who works their says her name and repeats what I said. She retrieves the items. No response to my thank you, expression neutral. Sits at computer with back to me. Even though this is not the customer service I'm use to, I went back to my room and had a good chuckle at the quirky moment. Important details: community kitchen has most things but a fridge. Self service laundry room is available, I believe coin operated. No specific parking lot, we found one a block over. Two bathrooms and one shower for my floor but surprisingly always available when needed. TV has cable and WiFi is available. I believe the pricing before tax was $70 a room, $30 a bed. Really enjoyed the stay, wished they had a hot tub.

Yelp
i just did two reviews of restaurants that were disappointing, and realized I forgot to review The Norblad after staying there for two nights in October. (And, I didn't want anyone to think I am a grumpy old lady, ha ha!) I did a lot of research for affordable, CLEAN places to stay, and IMHO, unless you are out to impress your sweetheart, or someone else is footing the bill, The N is the BEST deal in Astoria - and, centrally located. Their regular rooms are very reasonably priced ($67!), with toilets and showers in the hallway, but everything was very clean, and it wasn't an inconvenience. Nice touch: two luxury weight, cotton robes in the closet, for use by guests. Spacious room, a comfy queen sized bed with comforter, a futon to sit on, and a table with chairs in the corner. My room was quiet; my friend heard street noise in the corner room with more windows. You need to be capable of walking up & down 2 flights of stairs, but I am 73, my companion is 80, and we didn't have a problem with that. All rooms are on one floor. Friendly young staff, morning coffee/tea/hot chocolate; a fireplace roaring in the lobby (guests can bring in wine & snacks to enjoy there), and a kitchen with frig for use by the guests. Astoria prices, in general, are high, since it's a tourist destination, and although The Norblad does have some high priced rooms, they also have these secret bargains! It is the oldest, continuously running hotel in Astoria, which is way cool! During my stay, there was no evidence of it being a party hotel. Free street parking right up the hill one block. Call the hotel directly for the best rate. (By the way, I am from NYC, and pretty picky, ha ha!) Climb Astoria Column: it's worth the view!

Yelp
DO NOT STAY THERE!! The worse hotel experience we have ever had in over 50 years of travel. Made a reservation 1.5 month beforehand. The assigned room (209) room was literally 6 feet from the front desk and adjacent to the entry stairs. LOUD noisy hallway and front desk activity Including music. We needed to nap but there was NO WAY to do so due to the NOISE! we asked for a different room. They didn't have one. Since the thought of trying to sleep there (music until 11pm at front desk) was a nightmare- we asked for a refund. Management was completely uncaring and inflexible. Worse hot and management ever.

Yelp
Fabulous sleep in a cool town. Feels like its out of a Tom Robbins novel. Look it up. ;)

Yelp
great location & friendly staff! unfortunately i had to leave only a few hours after check in but did not have really any issues. however as someone who had knee surgery in august it was pretty difficult for me to get in & out due to the stairs, so just wanted to make sure everyone who needs an ADA compliant place knows that. it is listed that there isn't an elevator but wanted to put it in the reviews to really be aware of that fact.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this hotel! It is a refurbished 100 yo building with high ceilings and big bright windows. Minimalist furnishings made the small room comfortable. Our room was European style with very nice clean bathrooms down the hall, Bathrobes were provided. The location and price cannot be beat. Also a special shoutout to Elizabeth at check in. She was warm, friendly and helpful made us feel right at home

Yelp
We had a very nice stay at Norblad. The room was modern, spacious, and very comfortable with large windows. The shared bathrooms and showers were kept very clean, and the staff provided good service. We would stay here again!

Yelp
Stopped here for a night before a longer airbnb rental situation - I was so eager to get out of town, I decided to leave a day early. I had already scoped out the place online, but drove up and snagged the last remaining room for the night. First of all, a+ on the covid stuff, felt clean and safe the whole time. I brought my pooch, so we had a "cabin" room that was spare and easy to settle into. The service was top notch, everyone was so friendly and they treated my dog like royalty. :) Cisco was particularly welcoming - he took the time to write out a list of great local places to hit and later that night we ran into him at a local bar with some of his friends and I felt at home and welcome. Thanks Norblat, we'll be back!

Yelp
First thing's first, I was majorly apprehensive about staying at a hotel with a hostel attached. I thought it would be all dirty communal restrooms and weirdos. Happy to report that nothing could be further from the truth. This might have been my most favorite place during our road trip. We booked a suite which had it's own private bathroom, bedroom, closets, and bathrobes. The whole place, hostel or otherwise, was so fantastically decorated. Lots of records, communal areas (with orange doors signifying their use), tall ceilings, heat, and everything else in between. If anything, it felt like we were staying in a boutique hotel. Kind of crazy when you think about it since you're in the middle of nowhere. The awesome reception staff had great recommendations. On top of that, you're a hop skip and away from a fantastic brewery and restaurants. I couldn't recommend this place any more. Now, when in the world am I ever going to go back to Astoria?

Yelp
Thin thin walls and shared restrooms but staff was friendly. I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
one of my favorite hotels in the country. literally a home away from home. at least that's what it feels like. I always request the same corner room and they're usually able to accommodate me. I love the simple layout so much and the bedding, pillows and mattress are dreamy. it's also the first hotel I've stayed in during covid and wow - I felt extremely safe. impeccably clean and all precautions taken. would return in a heartbeat. and I already have a reservation for next month. I told you, I love it there!

Yelp
This was an awesome older hotel that was recently renovated. Astoria is famous for the movie Goonies. If you get too close to the house there is a sign warning that they will call the police. The Oregon Coast is awesome around Canyon Beach.

Yelp
The Norblad Hotel is the most interesting and cleanest hotel that I have ever stayed in. I made a reservation months in advance and made the decision to book a suite- as I knew we would prefer to have our own private bathroom. This room costs us about $120. Cheaper rooms are available for around $80 a night, if you don't mind sharing a bathroom with others. You will still have a private room, you will just need to use a communal bathroom in the hall. Checking in was a breeze here. We arrived in Astoria early and wanted to check into our room about an hour before the normal check-in time. I called early in the morning to request this and checked in right before we arrived. It wasn't a problem at all. The entrance is on the side of the building and you will have to walk up some steps, so keep this in mind when packing. The lobby is very old school and hip feeling. There are records all over the walls- any of which can be played by request. There is a communal kitchen, laundry area, and lounge area with couches and books. We were given an actual key for our room, which was so cool. Our room was perfect- large clean bed, a tv, little table for our stuff, and a nice size bathroom. The room was SO clean and so was the bathroom. Above the bed was a huge horizontal mirror with a reading lamp for each side of the bed. The sink was located outside of the bathroom, in the main room, which was pretty cool. There was a little cart in our room which held tons of towels, toiletries, and ear plugs in case we needed them. The windows in our room opened up and could be locked from the inside. The view from our room was of the Astoria business district and the water, which was great. We slept really well in the bed, had great showers, and really enjoyed how unique this place was. We both really had a wonderful time here and would LOVE to come back. **something else to note: The Norblad is in a very central part of downtown Astoria. Right around the block from two breweries (Fort George was great!), and close to the main strip of shops and restaurants. Most of the stores in Astoria are closed up for the evenings, so plan accordingly when visiting. The breweries are open late. Also, the Norblad does not have a parking lot, but street parking was easy for us to find right up the street from the hotel.

Yelp
Potentially the friendliest hotel staff in the world. They do everything they can to make your stay a great experience. Great spot to stay while visiting Astoria.

Yelp
Norblad ended up being a pretty cool place. The Owner of Pilothouse told us a little about the history of it, that I did not know about and had not heard about. Apparently its a converted halfway house. The thing I was shocked, but not bothered by ultimately was the fact that the rooms do not have their own restrooms, but there are communal restrooms down the halls. The place is packed with history and has a really cool vibe. I was unfortunately kept up by the windows rattling or the shade bouncing off the window, but with even that slight annoyance, it was a cool experience!!

Yelp
With this being my first experience in Astoria I went on a limb to try and find a cheap/affordable place to stay over night and I'm so glad I came across this wonderful hotel. I don't ever write reviews but I felt the need to do so this time around. The man at the front desk (so sorry I forgot his name but he had the long dark hair!) was so extremely helpful with good tips/spots to check out while in town. I wasnt expecting to stay two nights in a row but life happened and I was more than happy to book another night here. I was too far away to properly check in again so I gave them a call and he was very helpful and allowed me to check in again later in the day which really helped me out! As soon as I stepped into my room I was beyond satisfied with how absolutely adorable the room was! I've never been to a hotel with community bathrooms and shower rooms before so I was of course a bit skeptical. After checking everything out I knew I picked a good spot. The bathrooms were CLEAN... like SUPER CLEAN even after checking in at 10pm with all day usage. And the shower room was just as clean and fully stocked with towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hooks to hang everything up. (They even had a little hamper for you to put your used towels in so you didn't have to walk everything back to your room)... OH and the rooms came equipped with a pair of the most comfortable robes.. I was going to ask if It was possible to purchase one at check out but it slipped my mind. Oh well :) Anyways.. this place is located within walking distance of everything and it's in a beautiful historic building. Couldn't have been more happier, hopefully I'll be able to visit again in the future. (Also the mattresses were literally the most comfortable ones I've ever been in and I would absolutely love to know what the brand was because I have never slept so comfortably before.. it was like sleeping on a cloud!)

Yelp
We recently stayed in the Astor Building, 5th Floor and if you are into history, it is super cool. We basically had a cozy 1 bedroom apartment - separate bedroom with a full/ small kitchen, eating area/living room area. Interior=retro comfortable. Great views, comfortable bed. The separate eating area came in handy as a lot of places, especially at breakfast, were only doing take-away because of Covid. It was surprisingly warm when we were there so we had the windows open, which were lovely, but not so much at night. The front of the building gets action at all hours. Once we closed the windows, it was muffled and fine but we were woken up to do so. Everyone we ran across within the building was masked up, which we appreciated as we were too.

Yelp
So when I first stayed here was about 11yrs ago. It wasn't to bed then but still a bit ruff. BUT now, let's just say WOW. It is a lot nicer. Rooms are clean as well as the community bathroom and shower room. Beds are so comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxed. And the staff is nice and friendly. 100% I would stay here again. Thank you For the awesome stay

Yelp
This place was so hip and cool. feels like I was staying over at a buddies place. Very clean and the bed was super comfy like a hug. The walls are thin... just grab some beer from the many breweries and pass out :) the staff were super friendly and helpful. Love the minimalist feel to it and the price. I will for sure stay again.

Yelp
I couldn't be more disappointed in my experience with the Norbald hotel. I had hoped to write something great about this place but that went down the drain after speaking with Jerome (the manager). Long story short my husband and I planned a weekend getaway but being that he is a police officer he occasionally gets called in unexpectedly. In response to that I fully expected to lose our money completely but was told we would NOT be charged any extra fees if we rescheduled for another weekend. While we had initially scheduled for a Sunday-Tuesday we no longer had these days off so we needed to schedule for a Saturday-Monday however we were not told that the dates mattered. So when my husband called back to reschedule the price had now gone up over $150 when we had specifically been told that would not happen. Jerome did NOTHING to try and accommodate us other than saying "if this doesn't fit in your budget then I can get you in a smaller room". I went round and round with him hoping he'd realize the mistake made but nope. Do yourself a favor and do not speak with Jerome! UPDATE: As you can see Jerome felt the need to respond with a less than positive customer service kind of response, no surprise there. Let me clarify that I fully expected to pay a cancellation fee but what you do NOT know is that the individual I originally spoke with said that a couple had just walked in looking for a room so that he would be happy to waive the cancellation fee and give the room to them. SO, you did NOT lose any money. The point of this whole thing is we went out of our way to reschedule and change our work schedules around to stay in this hotel and give you our money but it turned into a mess the moment we spoke with Jerome. He was willing and is obviously still willing to stand his ground and think he did the right thing when offering TWO nights at a lower rate (which I was promised by another employee) would definitely not have hurt the hotel. I VERY rarely write bad reviews and I was sad to write this because I honestly believe this was a bad call on Jeromes side not anyone else I spoke with at this location. In the end we stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites and it was perfect!

Yelp
Small clean rooms without bathrooms, but do have sinks to wash in each one. There are a couple rooms in the hotel with a private bathroom but they get booked the quickest. Cute hip common room where you check in has records on the wall and good tunes playing. No elevator, 3 or so flights of stairs to walk up. I had room 205 which was down the hall from the concierge and conveniently located next to the shared bathroom and across from the shared shower (obviously private when you're using both.) I never had to wait to use the bathroom and there were plenty more located throughout. Dog friendly. As long as you know what to expect, this is a very old school minimalist charming place to stay. Will definitely stay there again!

Yelp
Okay, I've spent my 1st night out of 2 here. It's a beautiful little hotel / hostel. They have 3 types of rooms to choose from, a suite, a cabin, and a hostel bunk. They have a few bathrooms and a few showers that are on each hallway, a shared little kitchen, and some pretty awesome views of both the city and the bay, The location is fantastic, as it's in the historical neighborhood of Astoria. It sites across the street from my favorite brewery, Fort George, across from a co-op grocery store, coffee shops, everything.. That being said, it got pretty noisy. The street noise isn't too bad given the brew house next store. There was a group of 4-5 friends who checked into the hostel rooms and they got pretty loud, but they hushed ( or I fell into a deep enough sleep) around midnight. They accept dogs! For $20 a stay, not a night, you can bring your pooch! Just around the block Fort George Brewery has a little-park like fort setting that they let dogs do their business, complete with poo-bags. The hotel has just gone through a great remodel, the room we are staying in, 212, was just finished, we were told we were the first people to sleep there after it was remodeled. Brand new bed, linens (all from ikea!) refinished floors, everything. The manager was awesome, went over everything with me, and was available if I needed him. All in all, I'm loving it here! Wish I could pack up and move in! Did I mention they have furnished apartments here for $495 a month? This price includes utilities, wifi, cable, & a secured entry! I will be back for sure!

Yelp
I love the Norblad- I stay here every time I visit Astoria. It's basically become a boutique hotel at hostel prices, friendly staff, and a nice shared kitchen so I don't have to go out for every meal. On my last visit I was especially impressed by the comfort of the new bedding, and lovely remodeled marble showers. The location is perfect for exploring downtown Astoria- a block from a fabulous bakery, local brewpub, and the cooperative grocery.

Yelp
Beautiful rooms and building. Great location. The owner, who you'll likely meet, really embodies the spirit of the Norblad - or rather, the Norblad embodies the spirit of him; elegant, spotless, and intentional.

Yelp
LOUD...LOUD...LOUD!!! I stayed in a room that was on the street side of the coop and the delivery trucks in the EARLY morning literally felt and sounded like they were in my room. The ear plugs the hotel provides are useless and even with my fancy silicone earplugs of which I DOUBLED (I have never worn 2 pair of earplugs before...that's how loud it was) I could still hear all the street noise. That being said, the place was impeccably clean, I never had to wait for a bathroom or shower and my room was very comfortable. They put out coffee in the morning, the staff are super nice and everything was so freakin excellent except for HOW LOUD IT WAS. I might consider staying here again if I was traveling for fun and didn't intend to get much sleep, but if I was again traveling for work, I would have to stay elsewhere.

Yelp
Two thumbs up for location. Can't beat stumbling out of Fort George into these comfortable beds. Rooms are super clean and fresh and pretty darn spacious! That said, it is definitely on the noiser side, and doesn't make for the most peaceful night. Love being able to walk to Buoy, and easy free parking. The place is cheap and makes for a good place to crash!

Yelp
I loved my stay here. Cheap hotel along the coast. Funky and cute. I was worried about the shared bathrooms but they were really clean and well taken care of. I showered both mornings I was there and there was never a wait. The rooms are cozy and I loved the lighting through the big windows. I also loved that they had a sink and wheeled caddy in the room. Easy to wash my face and to do makeup in the morning. I will stay here again.
