This is an old, comfortable inn with excellent food. We were greeted warmly, and shown to a large tatami room with direct access to a small garden. Furnishings are worn, but clean and comfortable. The sink, with its separate hot and cold faucets is the first thing you see upon entering the room. The WC is small, and there is a separate shower/cedar tub room. The futons were quite thin, but there were extras in the closet which we used on the second night. The highlight for us were the wonderful kaiseki meals, both dinner and breakfast. Everything was wonderfully prepared and presented. Altogether the portions were more than ample, and it was fun to dress in fukata and to try new-to-us foods. If you are looking for an authentic country inn, Meigetsu might be a good choice.

A family run inn with excellent cuisine. The facility has a Showa period taste but most importantly you can sense love for the details and dedication for the quality of food. Tsuwano is a very charming place surrounded with fantastic nature.

We stayed for 2 nights, and enjoyed it very much. Our room overlooked a pretty little japanese garden, and was very relaxing. The food was delicious and plentiful. The bathing area was reserved for us to use as a couple, which was a nice touch, and unlike other ryokans that we have stayed in previously, where the male and females bathe separately. Tsuwano is a lovely place to explore by bicycle and we would recommend this ryokan to travellers looking for warmth and hospitality. No free wifi available from the ryokan, but we found a way to connect to a japanese mobile wifi that was free to use, but you had to sign up to it. While it was a nice place to stay, it was not the luxury high end "ryokan" experience, but more of a "minshuku" experience with above average food.

Yes..on our 35 day tour of Japan and staying in 8 ryokans, this would rate as one of the best considering how cheap it was compared to some others. The ladies who run this place were awesome..very minimal English but it did not matter at all, I remember reading one of the reviews saying they had a half hour conversation with one of them without understanding a thing, and the exact same thing happened to us with one of them. She was one of the warmest and funniest lady's we came across in Japan...and we didn't know a thing she was talking about, a fantastic memory. And some of the best food we had on our journey, we stayed 3 nights and don't regret doing so.Also Tsuwano is also a beautiful and peaceful town, well worth it, one of the best.

I chose this ryokan because of the tripadvisor reviews , especially the ones stressing food. With really limited Japanese language ability, getting the meals we wanted was something of a problem. As we got off the train, a fellow passenger said "Meigetsu?" (there was a complete sentence, but that was the word I understood). When we arrived at the ryokan to see if we could leave our bags until check in, we were greeted by the woman, shown to our room, given a cup of tea and really made to feel welcome. When we returned in the late afternoon, she carefully explained the onsen procedure, checked what time we wanted dinner, and made sure the yukata were large size. The onsen was lovely (indoor, but with an upper window open for air), the dinner delicious, as was the breakfast the next morning. The following night's dinner was completely different, featuring crab, and also delicious. My husband found the futon less comfortable than a bed, but I loved it. Highly recommended. Do note that the main picture is of the shrine, but the other photos show the ryokan as it is.

We had an amazing stay at Tsuwano and loved this accommodation. The service was superb and we loved the great Japanese hospitality. When one of our young kids got sick, the staff went over and above what was required to assist us. I would not hesitate recommending this lovely place to others.

This is a traditional style inn in Tsuwano. From the gate, you can tell that the ryokan takes care to preserve its atmosphere. The food is very tasty and the portions are generous, so I was very satisfied. The proprietress is also very friendly and has a good sense of humor.

Very traditional, family run ryokan where I felt very welcome. Room was comfortable with its own tiny bathroom and looked over the little garden below. Dinner and breakfast were superb with extraordinary attention to detail. Extremely good value!
