The North Acropolis was indicated as being an area of tombs (not sure if that is correct), but it is possible to access some areas (external) and see some interesting ancient carvings that were reportedly used to seal the tombs and tell a story. Some restoration has taken place but many areas show original weather rocks.

Visited Tikal for a day trip as part of a bus tour. It was hot and humid, but Tikal is one of the best ways to see Mayan architecture. There were lots of neat walking trails and to see the Mayan structures is truly amazing. Definitely worth a day trip.

The entire north side of the Gran Plaza is taken up by the North Acropolis, one of the most complex structures in the entire Maya world. Among the twelve temples now visible are about a hundred other structures. The complex that served as a royal necropolis and was a center for funerary activity for over 1300 years!

What great history! I'd highly suggest doing the sunrise tour. It gets you in early to see the ruins, there are fewer people around and best of all, you enjoy the sunrise from the view on temple 4

Overal good experience but I give 1 star for the maps they use in the park. Some roads don’t exist, some are not on the map and the distances visualised on the map give wrong expectations. The temple numbers are completely different numbers from the numbers on the map. Some numbers are even missing. For the biggest tourist attraction of the country, hire a decent graphic designer please. I made some quick adjustments in the image below.

Awesome. Tikal is a great place to explore historic ruins. Oh, you need an expensive guide for sunrise or sunset visits.
