I went in to find some new glasses and got the best experience with finding some new frames! They let me try on a bunch of different pairs and gave good advice on what looked good on me. I ended up picking a sweet pair that works perfect for my high prescription, they even have awesome sunglass clips.

More than just awesome eyewear. Interesting selection of art as well. Best quality of this business: how friendly and welcoming the staff are. Gave us a list of other recommendations as well. The staff know their stuff when it comes to eyewear, local eateries and can’t miss spots up the coast.

Went in here to get a pair of glasses adjusted that I hadn't bought here (I'm visiting Portland), figuring I'd just pay for the service. The owner adjusted them fast and perfectly, explaining what he was doing (and a Plan B approach if this didn't work--it did, tho!), and then refused to let me pay anything. While in the store, I started trying on some of the interesting, sometimes unusual frames they had. The staff was helpful and generous, gave me all kinds of things to try, plus tips for buying frames for a small face (mine) back in NY. Lovely, cool, smart little store. If I lived in Portland, I would go here every time.

A little over a year ago, I bought my first pair of glasses here. Since I wasn’t sure what I wanted, I was nervous I’d make a bad choice, but Chris and Andy helped me find a pair that were perfect for me. Recently, I came into the store with my husband, and Chris noticed my lenses were scratched (which was my fault entirely). He looked up my date of purchase, and a week later I have brand new lenses because they were still under warranty. Such great service, and the glasses are awesome too. Helped finish up a repair on a pair of sunglasses that I had issues with. Would not let me pay them for their time. They even polished up the frames that had probably not been cleaned properly in years. Will be going here for all future glasses needs.

Fantastic experience. Chris, you're the freaking best. I came in with frames that were bent so badly, I figured they were toast. He gladly took them, warned me that they were in pretty rough shape, but he'd do his best. Not even 5 minutes later, he had them perfectly repaired, not wanting anything in return. PLUS, their selection is so unique and fun, I've found my forever home for glasses in Portland for sure. Thank you so much Chris!

I have never bought so many pairs of glasses in one place in my life. Worth every penny and Chris the owner was absolutely amazing. He went as far as calling a friend of his who owns a store out of state to get him to special order something for me that he didn't carry. Both my girlfriend and I are extremely happy with our new glasses. It takes everything I have not to go there everyday to buy more.

This is the best optical store I've ever been to. The product selection is high quality and interesting. Chris and Nick are excellent at helping customers choose flattering frames. The quality of the lenses is top notch. But best of all, the thoughtful customer service is old school! I can buy glasses in NYC, CT or Portland now and will always choose North Optical for my optical needs.

A superb shop. Their stock is unusual and stylish-- a cut above anything else available in Portland, on par with great shops in Boston, NYC, SF etc. They're not just fancy or unusual; they're beautiful, reflecting excellent taste and surprising versatility for such a small shop. But what sets them apart is not the stock, it's the service. Chris is obsessive about getting the glasses exactly right and not about overcharging / maximizing profit at the expense of service and satisfaction. My wife bought a gorgeous pair from North Optical that our dog then destroyed: Chris bent over backwards to find a way to repair them without having to replace the most expensive components, and when that couldn't be done successfully, he found a way to get the company to replace the frames at no additional charge. True it isn't cheap-- but you get what you pay for, and Chris finds every way to shave a buck off without diluting the product. I hope never to buy glasses anywhere else.

These guys are so kind. They have such a wonderful array of glasses - unusual, funky, stylish. They also fixed my friend's glasses for free when she broke them and were so fun to chat with. Highly recommend.

I recently purchased a pair of Krewe eyeglasses from Chris at North Optical and had a great experience. The selection in the shop is unique, diverse, and affordable, typically i have a hard time finding glasses but there were multiple pairs in the shop that i would love to take home. Chris is the sole employee (also the owner) and its very knowledgeable about frame construction and lens options if your looking for eyeglasses or sunglasses. I will be coming back for my next pair.
