Josh Duhamel Loves Minnesota—and We Bet You Will Too

"Located in Beaver Bay, this operation offers an elevated take on tent camping: more traditional canvas setups but upgraded with hotel-style touches such as an actual king bed, letting guests rough it outdoors while retaining a surprising level of comfort." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. This was our second year at NSSC and we loved it! We stayed in tent #29, nice and private and a short walk to the main lodge. We expected it to be a bit muddy due to rain that week, but staff was proactive in getting trails maintained for walking. Tyson was very helpful in getting us to our tent and unloaded. Colleen was super friendly and went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. The sites have everything you need for cooking, starting a fire, and a peaceful sleep. Can’t wait to come back next year!

Overall we did enjoy our stay at North Shore Camping Co! They were very accommodating when our heater did not work and they offered us a discounted rate plus store credit to use on anything in their camp store! Luckily it was still warm enough at night that the heater wasn’t fully needed as we had plenty of blankets supplied as well. The only downside was our site itself. We were given site #1 which had zero privacy. We took a walk around the other sites and they all had a private walkway and plenty of trees or other plants obstructing the view of their fire pit/outdoor area and front door, but our site was the first on the path and everyone who walked by could see our entire site and see us when we were outside at anytime. The front door couldn’t be seen from the side where the fire pit was, but if the lights were on inside and someone was coming up the path they could see right inside as there was not any covering for the front door glass panels. We were also traveling with a dog so the privacy the other sites had would have been so much nicer. Additionally, the site was very slanted, the fire pit cooking grate didn’t stay level and we had to rig it to cook over, the picnic table wobbled, and the chairs were placed facing the path which made for a few awkward interactions as people walked by. Had we been given any other site, I think this would be a five star review, but we didn’t get to enjoy it as much with the lack of privacy and uncomfortable outdoor area. As for inside the tent, things were great! The bed was comfy and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, the staff was also very friendly and helpful and the location was amazing for a stay along the north shore! We would definitely consider staying again, but we just would be sure to request any site other than #1.

Me and my now wife just got married the day before our trip and wanted a fun, relaxing camping experience after the stress of everything wedding related. I would like to recognize Colleen & Amanda. They were very professional, very personable & honestly beautiful human beings (inside & out). We had a slight mishap during our stay and saying they went above & beyond is an understatement. They treated us like friends/family. Me and my wife truly enjoyed the conversations we had. They made the already fantastic experience so much better. 10/10 would recommend. Thank you Colleen & Amanda, if we don't see each other again i hope you get everything you want out of life, you deserve it! Sincerely , Riley & Brianna Kremer

If you're looking for a upgraded camping experience in the North Shore area, then look no further than North Shore Camping Co. They thought of everything! From our introduction, Colleen and Don were fantastic. They welcomed us right on in- felt like a family friend opening their home for us to use. They supplied us with all the extras (dishes, logs for the fire, cookware, bathroom facilities with all the necessities)! They even threw in some things for the kids. I was blown away with the value. The nightly rate and fees are worth it along with the outstanding customer service. I highly recommend. We even had access to the Cove across the street for dining, sauna, and indoor pool use. This was a nice surprise for us. The kids really wanted to swim in the pool. Plus, they had all the fixing for s'mores! NSCC was very conveniently located along the highway which gave us easy access to bike trails to Split Rock Lighthouse and Goosenberry Falls. I recommend the e-bikes for a pleasant ride. Of note, if you have anyone in your party under 16 years of age, they can only ride the mannual bikes which are not serviced well. Our 12 year old struggled on the old bike and it made the trip arduous. We had to slow down and could not reach our destination. We had to cut our bike trip short and turn back. I would recommend e-bikes for guests younger than 16. This area is too beautiful not to enjoy a bike ride with the family. All in all we had a great time!

We stayed for two nights to enjoy our anniversary. Check in was simple and staff was helpful to let us know where the amenities were, and how we could access things at the base lodge after hours. They were so sweet and provided us champagne to celebrate our stay! The glamping tent is absolutely adorable and so comfortable. They give you everything you need - cookware, washing supplies, stuff to make coffee. We slept great and had a great time exploring the Northshore during the day. There's ao many beautiful things to do in nearby Silver Bay/Beaver Bay/Twins Harbors area. Would 100% book again for a little getaway!

North Shore Camping Co. is a great place! This was our first time ever doing anything like this and we had a wonderful time. They are also dog friendly. My husband and I stayed for almost a week with our four dogs and the staff was super friendly and accommodating the whole time. Abrahm and Tyson and Brendan were awesome camp rangers and we never felt alone or helpless. Highly recommended! Thanks for an awesome vacation!

Amazing, 110% recommend!! We only stayed one night as we were passing through on a road trip and I with we could have stayed more. Great location (even right on a hiking trail) and very friendly service. Extra plus for being dog friendly. Though you aren't right on top of the other tents, they aren't super secluded from one another either. However the area of our tent was very quiet and we felt we had plenty of privacy. The bed was comfortable and the tent was clean with everything and more that we needed for the night.

Great location right across from Lake Superior and close to several awesome state parks. The staff was incredibly friendly and the sites were extremely clean and had everything we needed, which made the stay easy and convenient. It was also dog friendly, with lots of other cool amenities on site that we didn’t get a chance to check out! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is that it was less quiet than we expected. We did visit over Labor Day which meant it was busier and there were larger groups nearby, and the tent sites were closer together than we realized. Our spot was also closer to the base lodge, so it picked up all the highway noise at night. So just something to consider when booking/picking which site you want! In addition, our fire pit area was on an uneven slope with a lot of loose rocks and boulders that became a tripping hazard, especially after dark. Overall, it was a fun, easy, beautiful camping experience in a prime location, and we’d definitely recommend checking it out—especially if you’re looking for a more convenient weekend camping trip with quick access to the best of the North Shore!
