North Shore Deli in Mongoose Junction, St. John, is an absolute gem that I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Their warm hospitality made me feel right at home and set the tone for a wonderful dining experience. The food at North Shore Deli is nothing short of excellent. I decided to try their French toast, and it was absolutely amazing. It was so delicious that I completely forgot to take a photo, which is quite rare for me! The French toast was perfectly cooked, with a delightful balance of sweetness and texture that left me craving more. It's definitely a must-try if you're a fan of breakfast delights. In addition to their fantastic breakfast options, North Shore Deli offers a wide variety of snacks that are perfect for a day at the beach. Their grab-and-go section is stocked with fresh and tasty options like tuna salad, potato salad, and fresh fruit. These convenient and delicious choices make it easy to pick up something quick and satisfying on your way to enjoy the beautiful beaches of St. John. One of the highlights of my visit was discovering their selection of fresh-baked goodies. From pastries to muffins, everything looked and smelled incredible. I couldn't resist trying a few, and they did not disappoint. The baked goods were fresh, flavorful, and made with high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere at North Shore Deli is relaxed and inviting, making it a great spot to start your morning or take a break during the day. Whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast, a quick snack, or some delicious baked treats, this deli has something for everyone. The attention to detail and commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of their offerings. Overall, I can't recommend North Shore Deli enough. It's a fantastic place with top-notch food, a friendly staff, and a great selection of snacks and baked goods. If you're visiting St. John, make sure to stop by and experience the deliciousness for yourself. It's the perfect way to kick off your day and fuel your adventures on this beautiful island.

Great sandwiches. Gluten free options. The GF bread was some of the best my wife has ever had and they sell it by the loaf. Really enjoyed their potato salad as well - nice and peppery. Server was super friendly. We will definitely come back

Google
Great sandwiches and smoothies! Friendly staff. Casual, counter service spot; seating available inside or outside as part of the broader complex it's in. Parking for customers available at side of building. I had the Italian sandwich and a mango smoothie. Was great! Somewhat costly for what you get but nothing crazy. Food came quickly. Just what we needed before going on a long hike. Part of a very interesting building; great to sit outside

Google
Great deli to pick up sandwiches before heading to the beach! Sandwiches are delicious and reasonable priced. The grab-n-go vegan salads (Asian Peanut Noodle and Chicken Curry) are fantastic. The desserts are well worth the extra calories.

Google
I love this place. Went multiple times when were on the island breakfast sandwich was awesome. The Rueben really hit the spot. My son had the coconut bar (I think that’s what it was called) and it was fantastic. Hospitality is on point! Bring cash

Google
These to-go sandwiches and snacks were actually amazing! My wife and I loved the Pirate Piggy, potato salad, pasta salad, and asian salad. Perfect for bringing with you for a beach day!

Google
I highly recommend to order the smash burger. Their burger bread is pretty impressive. It’s not soft , more close to Baguette style. With the patty , lettuce and tomatoes, it’s super great. I also got the greek pita chicken and DJ sandwiches. Pita bread cooked perfect but they give you a lot of sauce. It’s soaked very fast . if you ordered several food, I recommend you to eat the pita first. They served DJ sandwiches with sauce. I don’t know what this sauce is. It tastes like blurred soy sauce. Personally without the sauce is better. Only bad thing is you have to wait for a while. They got order quick, but making the food takes long time.

Google
I have been there twice so far this week. Sandwiches are absolutely the best. Probably the best I’ve ever had! Amazing staff as well. So friendly.

Yelp
Michael, is awesome! Ran out of my favorite hot sauce from here and after a quick call, he was able to track down and get more for me to enjoy. He went above and beyond in his customer service, and with a constant smile. The food is delicious and so fresh, able to pack a cooler for the beach and enjoy the day. I will definitely be back for more great food options.

Yelp
Pastries cannot be beat for the size, quality, and price. Virgin Islands coffee served. Will be back!

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches and to go salads - especially the curry chicken salad. Expensive but the sandwiches are decent size and hearty, food quality is very good. We called ahead and always experienced prompt and friendly service.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches and they had GF bread as a substitute which was a bonus! The workers were very friendly. Plenty of outdoor seating too.

Alex K.

Yelp
The cashier is a delight, polite, and helpful. The smoothie's, bagels, and sandwiches were all amazing. Top tier food on the island. Prices are island taxed and regularly out of ingredients but they make it work and can't hold it against this hole-in-the-wall shop.

Yelp
After seeing so many good reviews of this place, we knew we had to give it a try. And the reviews were 100% correct. Their sandwiches here are so incredibly delicious. Their meat is flavorful and moist; their sandwiches are packed full of meat, and the bread is soft with the right amount of crisp. Their Cali Pastrami Tsunami Sandwich was one of the best pastrami sandwiches we've ever had. Wish this restaurant was closer to home so we could eat it again! They also had super tasty baked goods available - wish I had remembered the name of the one we got, but it was a huge slice of like a cookie bar with a graham cracker crust, chunks of chocolate, toasted coconut... Divine! They also have plenty of "grab and go" items if you're in a rush and just need something quick. The location is super convenient - right in Cruz Bay, close to a bunch of shops, Virgin Islands National Park Visitor Center, and hiking trails. Staff were wonderfully kind. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Service was good! Food was scrumptious Ambiance was busy with fun client Great breakfast menu

Yelp
Great, fast service and solid sandwiches made to order. It's the perfect spot to stop and grab breakfast or stock your cooler before heading out to the North Shore beaches. Easy convenient parking at Mongoose Junction.

Yelp
We ate here yesterday. We spent over $100 for lunch for 2, deli items (curry chix salad, Asian slaw, Asian noodles, fruit salad)to go, and a bakery item. We haven't tried the deli items. The bakery item, a coconut chocolate bar, was delicious. We ordered a bacon, cheddar and turkey sandwich and a vegan Greek pita with tzatziki and feta added. Yesterday the sandwiches were soooo good. The Greek pita had large cucumber wedges, tomato, onion, and lettuce. It was loaded with vegetables. There was a generous dollop of sauce and hummus. One of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. The bacon and turkey sandwich was delicious. The bacon was crispy and very flavorful. There was a generous amount of Valley Sauce, a dark yellow sauce. We enjoyed it so much yesterday, we returned today. Instead of the friendly lady who helped us yesterday, there was a young man who coughed/sneezed into his hand. We were going to order a sweet but didn't want him handling our food. Thankfully, the lady was working the register later and we got a jumble bar, which was very good. We ordered the same 2 sandwiches. Today they were totally different. The bacon was too thick, more like pork belly. It was soggy. It looked like there wasn't any Valley sauce on the sandwich. The sandwich was bland and flavorless. I was told they mix the Valley Sauce with sour cream before putting it on sandwiches. It was very light, like mayo, and bland. Yesterday it was orange like mustard. Someone got the sour cream/valley sauce ratio way off. The Greek pita was also very different. Instead of generous slices of cucumber, there were small pieces of chopped cucumber, not much tomato, lettuce, hummus, sauce or feta. There were way too many banana peppers. The sandwich just tasted like vinegar from the loads of peppers and it also made it soggy. I'm rating 3 stars. Average of 5 for yesterday and 2 for today.

Yelp
Part of the Mongoose Junction complex, near the National Park HQ, this is a favorite stop for beach goers to grab a sandwich. On the island my discussion is price is relative to what you get and these sandwiches were fresh and very tasty...so a good value. The sandwiches feature fresh ciabatta rolls, quality meats and if you get it, the tastiest bacon on the island.
google avatar

Yelp
Actually 5 stars for the sandwiches. They were absolutely wonderful. We wolfed them down in record time in their pleasant (but mosquito filled) plaza. But minus 1 star for the owner's nasty attitude (I think it's just his way, but we didn't like it- so there you go). And minus another star for being super pricey. It's still a viable option if you're on your way to Trunk Bay and you want a quick bite.

Yelp
Aweosme service and great food. Grabbed a breakfast sandwich and lunch to go for a day long boat ride. The Italian was awesome! So we're the noodles. Nice and clean store.

Yelp
We hit this place twice for breakfast. Good egg sandwiches and fresh baked goods...muffins, banana bread, croissants. They also have some grab and go fruit. Fast service and tasty food. Not sure why it took me so long to try this place over the years but glad we checked it out. Will definitely stop in again during our next STJ trip.

Yelp
Tucked in a corner of the Mongoose Junction complex - these dudes are efficient for a quick in & out with breakfast and lunch sandwiches plus a nice selection of pastries and cold drinks. We picked up coffee and sandwiches here to go several times. Like many places in St John - bring your wallet.

Yelp
Do you want a great day at the beach? Stop by Mongoose Junction and visit North Shore deli to fill your picnic/beach bag/tote/cooler with lunch! If you get there early enough, grab a bite for breakfast and get lunch to go. Their sandwiches are top notch with great flavor. Some of my personal favorites are The DJ, Pirate Piggy (think of a Cuban) add bacon, and the Reuben. My bride likes their salads. North Shore Deli also has great side items- potato salad, pasta salad, and my favorite peanut Thai noodles. Get a Jumble too! (Hints of peanut butter with oats and chocolate). The service is great and the food is too. Eat your food there or take it to go!

Yelp
We went in for smoothes. Asking for specifics on what was in several of them was very upsetting to the man who was waiting on us. Sorry! I thought we were the customers. One person had serious food allergies, not just dislikes. And, the worst thing is the smoothes weren't very good - all 3 that we purchased.
google avatar

Stan D.

Yelp
One of the few values on the island. The food is always fresh, priced reasonably (considering island prices). We went there several mornings and we had from the bagels, to a breakfast sandwich, French toast etc.

Yelp
This spot is nice and conveniently placed near the ferry port. It would be better to walk, as parking is limited. The staff was kind and greeted us. The pastries were nice. My chocolate chip muffin was a bit on the drier side, so I only enjoyed eating the top half. Nonetheless, it was FULL of chocolate chips and I always enjoy THAT! Ha! The beef hamburger had pork in it. That was unfortunate because the burger tasted so great, but there were very salty pork chunks in every bite! It took away from the great burger flavor that was present. Also, there was no warning or signage telling us there was pork in the all beef burger. The painkiller was pretty good but the rum punch didn't taste like it was made with juice. The potato salad is out of this world amazing! Whatever you do, try the potato salad and a muffin!

Yelp
The best customer service and the food was wonderful! The young gentleman at the counter was super sweet and inviting. I ordered the veggie burger and I am still thinking about it a few days later! It was the best veggie burger I've EVER had! Would come back just to eat here

Yelp
This spot has been consistent event though it's gone through many name and potentially ownership changes. Located on the lower level of Mongoose Junction, it's a crossed between a deli and a mini convenience store seeing as though they have cases of beverages (both alcoholic and non), to go or prepackaged food, and a plethora of chips. There is a menu with a variety, your basics such as good old fashioned deli sandwiches but also things like an open face gyro with homemade gyro meat. I opted for that and is was delicious although I felt like was garlic breath the remainder of the day. My little one got the grilled cheese but we had to force feed it to her (which means negotiate things and clap) as it wasn't your usually GC, it was on unusual roll type bread. They have a ton of bakery items as well if you need a beach or ferry snack. Great place to stop and grab lunch to go if you are heading to a beach for the day.

Gage B.

Yelp
Not one to leave many reviews, but Michael behind the counter was awesome! It was a super busy morning with lots of people coming in, phones ringing etc and Michael was smiling and being nice to every customer. Customer service goes a long way in making me enjoy and reccomend a place. Michael did a great job handling the busy crowds.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwiches and iced coffees were the perfect meal before heading out for a full day of snorkeling the beaches of St. John. The food came out very quickly and was affordably priced. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcomed us back to try out some of their deli sandwiches for lunch. We got a "jumble" peanut butter and chocolate dessert which we split later in the day. It was a great size for sharing and delicious, but not too sweet. We will definitely be stopping back in and recommending that others make a visit!

Yelp
Man I wish we didn't visit St John on our last full day, it was amazing. This place was our first stop when the ferry dropped us off. North Shore Deli is super affordable and the staff were really nice and had such an upbeat attitude compared to some of the other places we went to during our trip. Got a breakfast sausage sandwich and iced coffee. The sandwich was soooo good but the iced coffee was amazing. Seriously one of the best iced coffees I've ever had and they gave us free refills. Next trip we make to St John I'll definitely return here.
google avatar

Shannon N P.

Yelp
Hands down one of our favorite places to eat on the island. We have lunch there just about everyday on our yearly trip. My fav's are the Asian noodles, BLT and strawberry smoothie that taste just like a strawberry milkshake
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
This deli makes the perfect sandwiches to take on a boat. Which was lucky for us, because we needed sandwiches to take on a boat. They may not be the overstuffed heroes of NYC, but the flavors of The Italian and the Turkey Pesto were certainly on point. I split them with my wife, and if we're being honest, both options made me want to snatch the other half out of her hand and throw her overboard so I could eat them all by myself. Don't worry though, I controlled my temporary murderous impulses and just came back and bought more sandwiches a few days later. A better solution, I think we can all agree. North Shore also has smoothies, chips, breakfast, burgers, and salads of all kinds. You're overpaying a bit for the sandwiches and overpaying a lot for the Asian peanut noodles ($10/pint), but overpaying is kind of what you do at Mongoose Junction, and I wasn't sad about any of it.
google avatar

Jeff E.

Yelp
Bright, clean store and friendly staff. But the food's nothing to write home about (which could be said of most food in Cruz Bay, honestly) and, as others have pointed out, incredibly overpriced. I grabbed a 12 oz soda and premade Italian sub from the fridge and added a small bag of chips. Came out to $23. Like the $6 ATM fees at the bank next to the Starfish Market, this is just stupid.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
Top notch sandwiches! I'm a sandwich fiend, so when we stopped by here in Mongoose Junction after a day at the beach I was thrilled. I got the hot roast beef, and we also got a turkey, kids grilled cheese, and a veggie burger. Not a crumb was saved after everyone devoured their sandwiches. We got some advice about the St Thomas airport food situation, so we stopped by before our ferry ride to stock up on some more sandwiches for the trip home. What a treat after getting through the customs/TSA mess! I tried their take on a Cuban sandwich and it was excellent! I wish I would have gotten another one for the plane ride! Expect the prices to be higher than the States, but the quality was still great. Like a lot of places in the VI, they have mixed drinks too, so wash it all down with a frozen cocktail, just remember to drive on the left!
google avatar

Annemarie H.

Yelp
We came here for sandwiches to bring to Trunk Bay for lunch and it did not disappoint. I had a turkey club sandwich that was super yummy. Thank you North Shore Deli. We will be back one day!

Yelp
Decent Sandwich Spot, Easy to Miss Location... The food was 3.75 stars... Good and easy to eat, but didn't quite live up to the price... St. John is that way... High prices at many places that don't quite correlate to the greatness of product at one place and then greatness from a hole in the wall with low prices on another. The service was OK here, but not great... Tell them you want to drink water and they look at you like you've lost your mind... I only came once or twice maybe here during my month on the island... It's not a bad place, but too high priced... The atmosphere was good here...

TomandMary R.

Yelp
Amazing food .. the hot DJ sub was great .. lots of fresh roast beef house baked roll... great salad super fresh and crispy veggies.. great selection of non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages... staff was super helpful and friendly.. super reasonable prices as well..

Brent W.

Yelp
The food is always great, but they lie when adding up the bill. They have a sign on the counter stating gratuity is added for six or more. Well they added it to my bill for just my wife and I. Their attitude sucks, I know they just came off of the busy season. I also know and work in the service business. I know what kind of " privileged" and " entitled" people they deal with everyday but You DO NOT screw your customers. Your customers is how you make money a living, I guess this guy that runs the deli really doesn't give a dam. I will take my money elsewhere for now on.
google avatar

Hannah B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped by before heading to the beach and we absolutely loved it! He gets the French dip everywhere he goes and he said the one there was the best he has ever had and he has had a lot!! He wouldn't stop craving it the rest of our vacation! Iol. The owners care about quality and it shows!

Yelp
This is a great spot for lunch if you are over at Mongoose Junction. My husband loved the pastrami sandwich and my mother is obsessed with their homemade veggie burger (it's really hard to find one that doesn't have mushrooms and quinoa). Their prepared case includes great looking salads and sandwiches as well. Be prepared to wait quite a bit since it is so popular.

David U.

Yelp
Understanding the place is crazy busy each morning, not such a great experience. Ordered a simple Smoked Turkey & Bacon "signature" sandwich. Told no Cheddar cheese (as on the menu description), so okay, opt for provolone. But when I get to the beach no bacon? Its in the title of the sandwich and written on the wrapper .. "STB". Why not just call it "Turkey and Bread for $13"?
google avatar

Lee M.

Yelp
This place seems to be owned by someone that once ran a NYC deli. Really quick service, large portions (except for the salads), and clean tables. Probably the best place we went to for lunch.
google avatar

Nora M.

Yelp
What can I say about this deli that countless others have not already said? We stopped in for a quick breakfast prior to our full day charter that left from the national park, which is right across the street from the deli. My husband and I both had the bacon and egg sandwich on an English muffin, and we shared a huge fresh blueberry muffin. Both were so fresh and delicious and allowed us a hearty, healthy, protein-fueled day on the charter. They have a nice grab-and-go area that we did not need because of our plans, and their sandwich menu board offered some delicious options as well. Next time, we'll get some of those sandwiches as we enjoy some beach time!
google avatar

Jess G.

Yelp
North Shore was recommended by our SUP Fit instructor in St. Thomas - great recommendation! We stopped at North Shore after getting off the ferry from St. Thomas so that we could get sandwiches for our hike to Honeymoon beach. It's a short walk from the ferry dock, and the shopping area it's in is very cute too. We got a soda, a bag of chips, and two sandwiches - NOTE: you can probably split a sandwich! Sadly, I only ended up eating half of my sandwich, but not because it wasn't good. The Italian had really good flavor. My husband got the turkey pesto, which was also really good. It was a little pricey but everything is pricey on the islands, I would go ahead and go for it. It really is good, and everyone inside seemed to be in a great mood, which was a refreshing start to the day!
google avatar

Colleen B.

Yelp
My family and I stopped by here to order some to go sandwiches for the beach. This place is popular! We ordered the smoked turkey sandwich, pastrami and the Italian. The Italian and turkey were very delicious! They were both quite fresh with delicious flavor. The pastrami sandwich was my only complaint. It literally was just French bread with pastrami. No sauce, toppings, etc. The pastrami was pretty tough and dry. Just not the best sandwich choice. I would definitely recommend this place for sandwiches!
google avatar

Jim K.

Yelp
Great sandwiches. Coconut bars and other deserts are phenomenal. Perfect for a lunch pickup on the way to the beach.
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
North Shore is a great place overall but I feel like they need to shake up the menu a bit and change it but that may be a bias becuase I have =been there so many times over the years. Their sandwiches are solid (I'm partial to the piggy). Breakfast is a bit underwhelming but the corn beef hash is super fresh...
google avatar

Kari R.

Yelp
Best little sandwich shop on St John!!! The grab and go chicken salad and peanut noodles are AMAZING!!!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Disappointed this was our favorite spot to stop for breakfast and we won't be going back after the red headed man behind the counter was rude to our daughter because she had a food allergy. He then continued to put the foods she was allergic to on the breakfast sandwich and mess up her order. We were very polite and he was short, rude, and unprofessional. Why not please your customers so they want to go back? Asking for no cheese was too difficult for him to fathom. RUDE

Yelp
Perfect Beach Sandwiches! Our group of 4 couples was sitting on Francis Bay last week and realized we didn't pack anything beyond snacks in our cooler. The day was perfect and everyone wanted to stay longer, so I took orders and drove the Jeep to North Shore Deli to order Turkey with pesto, Turkey with Bacon, the Piggy, and a few other sandwiches. I sipped on a beer while waiting, then cruised back to the beach to our spot. I tasted the Turkey pesto and the Piggy - both were delicious! The meats were so fresh, the pesto was bright, and the bread was just perfect. We loved it so much, we went back on 'go home' day and ordered 'airplane friendly' lunch to pack in our carry ons. The people sitting next to us on the plane were jealous!
google avatar

Bobby G.

Yelp
We stopped in for a water, took notice of the menu, and decided to come back for lunch another day. The servers we encountered were very friendly. I had the double swine sandwich which they call the Pirate Piggy or something to that effect. It was definitely the best sandwich I had on the island and one of the better sandwiches I've ever had. Ham AND roasted pork with Swiss and spicy mustard and briny pickles pressed in a sub roll. It was juicy and creamy and full of goodness. The roll held up well throughout each and every bite. I also had a small Greek style salad that was refreshingly delicious and a great compliment to my sandwich. I don't think you can go wrong with anything they offer. I'd go back to North Shore Deli without hesitation.

Michelle C.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh sandwiches! I can be particular when it comes to meats and these are definitely high quality. You won't be disappointed!! We ate here multiple times during our stay and loved everything we had!
google avatar

Jay F.

Yelp
Nice to have a deli where you can call and order in and pick up before hitting the beaches. Over priced in my opinion but conveniently located. Sandwiches were very tasty

Payton R.

Yelp
WOW! This place is AMAZING. First off, DJ, the owner, couldn't be any friendlier or more approachable. He was so nice and hospitable. We had the green smoothie, the turkey and bacon sandwich, and the coconut chocolate bar and all three were delicious! Do yourself a favor and stop here early on your visit as you'll likely be back at least once a day from there out.

Christine P.

Yelp
Great lunch spot. Highly recommend the roast beef and turkey sandwiches. Made fresh and creative options. Very friendly staff.
google avatar

Victoria T.

Yelp
Can't speak to the dine-in experience, but I got the Turkey Pesto sandwich to-go and loved every bite. The meat-to-bread ratio was ideal (WAY more meat than bread) and the pesto and cheese were perfect complements. My boyfriend got the Piggy Pirate and devoured it within seconds, so I'm sure that's a good option too.
