Lovely friendly hotel which we stayed at for one night enroute to Northern Ireland via the CarinRyan ferry ( 8 minutes away ). |Spacious and welcoming. |A real grand old lady of a building that inevitably shows its age a little bit this only adds to its charm. |We stayed with our 2 dogs and were able to eat with them in a separate lounge. |The food was very tasty and generous. |Service attentive and friendly. |There is lots of parking and we used the EV charge point with no issues. |Thank you for a lovely stay.

Stayed here whilst in Stranraer attending a friends wedding. The hotel is very dated and tired looking. The bed was comfortable but there was a sound of running water in our room all night. This stopped us from sleeping very well. The staff were all good but maybe not enough of them. Nice breakfast in the morning.||The lift was weird.||The hotel is very average but could be superb with some investment,

Passing through Stranraer on our way to a holiday cottage in Kirkinner, my wife and I, along with our daughter and her two teenage boys called in at the North West Castle Hotel in Stranraer for a light lunch. One lad had a burger and the rest of us had paninis with various fillings. Excellent food, lots of filling and very tasty. Beautifully presented with salad and potato chips. Great friendly service and very reasonable prices. A great start to our holiday and Ten out of Ten to the hotel. If back in the area we shall certainly visit again.

Stayed overnight in this hotel having got a late ferry into cairnryan. Staff were fantastic. The room was lovely and warm albeit a little dated. Could do with a little refurbishment. Good amount of parking spaces at the location. Didn't have the opportunity to eat at the hotel or use the leisure centre. Don't have much to complain about. It suited our purpose of a quick overnight stay. Perfect with small children.

This traditional hotel was perfect for our base to start our Scotland tour. We didn't arrive until after 10pm and found the large car park had space for us. The man at reception who checked us was very chatty and friendly and the reception space was spacious. Our room was ample for our needs, a comfortable bed, tea and coffee and a hot shower. I can't comment on much else as we went straight to bed and left the next morning. If anything the place looks a little tired, in need of refreshing but would we return..... definitely!!

The rooms were very drab, could be doing with a lick of paint, and the furniture was dark and ancient, we were in room 73 which had a dismal view. The beds were very comfortable. The walls are paper thin, could hear everything, was kept awake one night and the people in the next room were only having a conversation. The Scottish breakfast tasted as though it was reheated, however, there was plenty of other choices available. I asked for two slices of toast and poached eggs one morning, and the waitress brought one slice. I advised the waitress that I had requested two, she replied rather impatiently I could make one at the machine, however, she then brought me one. The bar was reasonably priced, and Mo the barman was very pleasant and helpful, as were the others. It would have been good if there was cocktails on offer, and maybe some nuts or crisps for sale at the bar. The staff always had a friendly smile.

A wonderfully old fashioned and sturdy Scottish hotel. It really is like a castle inside – labyrinthine with rooms leading off corridors and mysterious liminal spaces. You could say it's in need for an update, and maybe it is, but when they do, I hope they maintain the Scottish Castle type feel and atmosphere. Traditional with a contemporary twist. There was the amazing Alpine Bar that overlooked an actual curling rink. It was fascinating to watch people playing it. Our room was very spacious. We had a twin accessible room, room 61, and it was nearly perfect. It was right by the elevator. The bathroom was great, with a wheeled shower chair, a huge sink – as big as a bath, and a very powerful shower. In our experience, accessible bathrooms rarely have bath chairs that can be moved around. We usually have to drag in the desk or accent chair for my partner to be able to sit at the sink. So the shower chair was a big plus. There was plenty of room for my partner's powered wheelchair in the room. One niggle was the door was tricky to open and could be fitted with a motor for automatic operation. The doorway was on the narrow side too. One other niggle of mine is the lack of coat hooks – as always, in hotel rooms, there was plenty of room for some. Our room had a lovely view of Loch Ryan. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar staff could do with reminding to serve customers in order of arrival and to acknowledge customers who are waiting to be served. We had a meal in the restaurant on our first night and it was excellent. All of us were very happy with our meals and service. The breakfasts were excellent too. Very tasty and filling. The coffee was amazing – way better than it had to be. It's a beautiful hotel and wonderfully dated in an appreciably pleasing way. There are some careworn areas that could do with some attention but nothing major. The Ross Lounge is an especially gorgeous set of rooms – part of the original house. We can't wait to stay again.

Arrived here to find out the gym was closed for the 2 days I was staying (male guests and members). Asked the manager if it was possible to get a local gym membership to compensate (as it was advertised with gym and spa) and was told no Once I got to my room I found a very dated (look and smell) room with 2 old beds. I don’t usually check mattresses but in this case I did (and I’m glad I did). I found a very old and stained brown mattress waiting for me underneath (photo attached). The reception staff changed my room for me and to their credit they were very helpful The second room had slightly better beds, but still all furniture and beds are very old and the smell was musty and unpleasant. Stained carpets are complementary
