My wife gave birth at North York General Hospital, and overall, the team provided decent care during delivery and afterward. The staff were generally attentive and professional, and I really appreciated how well they handled the follow-up checks for both my wife and our newborn daughter they were thorough and reassuring. That said, there were a few instances of conduct that could have been better (like communication or responsiveness at times), which was a bit disappointing. Still, the facilities are clean and modern, and most of the experience was positive. Thanks to the team for helping bring our little one into the world safely.

Great hospital in an ideal location. Quality doctors and nurses. It’s where my daughter was born. Excellent experience. Emergency department is also top notch. Got blood test, urine test, X-Ray, ECG and ultrasound done within 6 hours with assessment from doctor. Not too bad considering the busy time of the year. Thank you!

I was admitted through the Emergency Department earlier than my scheduled C-section due to the onset of labor and the presence of a mucus plug. The entire process was smooth, with no long waiting time in the Labor and Delivery unit. The environment was clean, and all the nurses were kind and welcoming. I would especially like to commend two exceptional nurses who truly made a difference in my delivery journey: Kaye Tolentino from the Operating Room and Recovery Area, and Edalaiza from the Postpartum unit. During the procedure, my whole body was shaking due to extreme nervousness and fear. Kaye reassured me that I was in good hands, and she truly meant it. While I was receiving spinal anesthesia, she made sure I was covered with a warm blanket and comforted me when I was shaking uncontrollably. She even hugged me like a sister, calmly encouraging me to relax and reminding me that everything would be over quickly. I was close to tears because her words and presence meant so much to me. I do not have family here to support me, and the way she treated me with such compassion and sisterly care gave me the strength I needed to get through the operation. Although the entire operating room team was wonderful, Kaye’s kindness was truly exceptional. In the Postpartum unit, Edalaiza provided outstanding care. She was very thorough in explaining all the procedures for newborn care, ensuring I fully understood everything—even though I already have experience working as an assistant teacher in a daycare and am a mother of two. She supported me in every aspect of my recovery and was very proactive in helping me heal quickly so I could return home to my children, which was my greatest concern. Her knowledge, attentiveness, and initiative toward every patient truly stood out. I wholeheartedly commend these two nurses in Labor and Delivery. They went beyond their job descriptions by providing not only excellent medical care but also genuine emotional support, which played a significant role in my physical and emotional healing.

I recently had a total hip replacement surgery at North York General Hospital, and I can’t say enough good things about the entire experience—from the registration to discharge. As an employee in healthcare myself, I know what quality care looks like, and this team delivered it at the highest level. The surgery went smoothly. Dr.Dhotar , the anesthesia and PACU team were exceptional. But what truly stood out was the care on 4W Orthopaedic Unit. The nurse who took care of me, especially Lily, were outstanding—compassionate, attentive, and incredibly skilled at pain management anticipated my needs, explained everything clearly, kept me comfortable during my admission, and always made time to answer questions with patience and warmth. The allied health team—physical therapist Elisa (with assistant Ben, occupational therapist (Aurora) are phenomenal. They were encouraging yet realistic, pushing me just the right amount to get moving early. Farida (pain specialist) provided clear and easy to follow instruction with regards to managing pain. From the moment I arrived to the day I left, every staff member I encountered was professional, kind, and dedicated. The hospital environment felt clean, organized, and supportive. Thanks to this amazing team.

I recently visited the Emergency Department at North York General Hospital and had an excellent experience. The staff were professional, attentive, and caring, making a stressful situation much easier to handle. I want to especially thank Dr. Elisha Targonsky for his exceptional care. He was not only highly knowledgeable and skilled but also incredibly kind and patient, taking the time to explain my condition. His professionalism, calm demeanor, and genuine compassion made a huge difference in my experience. Overall, North York General Hospital provides excellent care, and I am very grateful for the dedication of Dr. Targonsky and the entire medical team.

Had knee replacement surgery yesterday. Every single person that was involved in caring for me was incredible . Dr. Poon (I believe) was my anesthesiologist and was so wonderful. Dr. Dhotar did my surgery , was incredible. Julie, the 4th floor nurse I had was the sweetest and most caring girl. There were so many others that I didn't get names of but I honestly cannot say enough good things about this hospital and the staff , never encountered a single negative person!!!

I want to thank everyone at nygh for how kind they were during my birthing experience. After showing up in pain at 4-5cm dilated in labor and delivery, the nurse working on Wed Feb 25th at 3AM at intake was so kind and gave the most gentle IV line I have ever gotten. She wished me luck on delivery. The labor and delivery resident surgeon (I forget her name) was kind enough to ask my nurse to okay being on all fours on a peanut ball even with epidural and with my husband’s help even though I know many hospitals do not allow this. She even came by after delivery and ensured everything was well. Also said my baby was beautiful despite his cone head after emerg csection. Thank you to Joanne and Alex as well as one of the night nurses (I forget her name) who god bless did two bladder scans for me after failed foley removal. I think the way she did the scan helped get things going! Thank you Joanne for making foley removal not scary and quite painless. Even though I had to get an emergency csection at 9cm, they saved my baby and they made my experience amazing from beginning to end!

I visited the hospital on Tuesday for an MRI scan, as recommended by my family doctor. After receiving an IV, I fainted and fell to the ground. I want to express my gratitude to the MRI scan team, especially to the lady who quickly helped me and prevented further injury—it could have been dangerous! She provided me with chocolate and water, which made me feel better. Later, they informed my wife, she was in the lobby, that they recommended I go to the emergency department. There, I underwent a quick ECG, and everything appeared normal. The doctor advised me to go back home(it took a bit of time like 4 to 5 hours) I want to commend all the doctors, nurses, and staff members; they were incredibly supportive, humble, and caring. This was my first experience at a Canadian general hospital.

Everyone's hospital visit experiences will differ, and let's remember that these staff work long hours and aren't always appreciated for what they do. Before you decide to leave your reviews for them, please remember this: They deal with us patients on some of our worst days, which already puts us on edge. I arrived to emergency care and the security and another patient had to help direct me. I was in so much pain I couldn't pay attention to the otherwise fairly large signs on the walls. After triage, I was taken into a zone for care and it was relatively quick to get an IV and pain medication going. Over night is always going to be a smaller team with a chance there's no doctor, so I did have to wait all night for a doctor to finally see me and check my bloodwork. After scans and back and forth, I ultimately needed surgery. All in all, it took roughly 10-11 hours to find out surgery was the best route. Luckily they also had an open availability and I was in surgery about 16 hours after arriving at emergency. All the team was incredibly nice. It was a minor surgery but I was still so nervous, as most people would be. Luckily my pain had subsided so it helped make the surgery part slightly easier to get through. I had an amazing group of people who were so kind and so incredibly comforting. Dr Tung, Dr Simone, Dr Yung, nurse Helen and a few more that I'm trying to recall the names for. Post surgery, I was with nurse Cat I believe and she moved me for overnight stay. Thankfully they had a room for me and I had wonderful nurses throughout my stay that helped me feel comfortable and get as much rest as would be possible. Past hospital visits we're certainly not as smooth, and many times, the staff I encountered were not very personable. Realistically, they deal with hundreds of patients and I can't imagine everyone has the capacity to be kind and caring to each individual they care for. Still, as a patient, I really appreciate when they do take that time because I'm in a scary situation that I'm unfamiliar with and don't feel well. North York has many many team members with that level of care and I'm really so grateful. It won't always work out so smoothly depending on timing and availability of beds and staff. But hopefully if you ever do need to rely on the team at NYGH, you'll feel good knowing they have excellent standards of care and they're doing their best.

The work here is very poorly organized, probably one of the worst in the world! It takes about half a year to wait for an MRI here, but when I had an MRI here on February 7, 20 days had already passed and there were no results, no information on the MRI. It's horrible!!! Anatoly Motrich
