It is a nice calm place, mostly for walking. We didn't do much, though, as it was raining and extremely cold. The service area was closed. I had the feeling that it was an off-season as people were apparently there working on maintenance, perhaps. The way to the moors is so picturesque. We had to stop and take a few photos. It is much colder than York. There was ice and snow in a lot of places on the way. In a couple of instances, we had to drive so slowly for safety, but the road is generally safe. It's just being cautious about the weather. It took almost an hour from York City Center.

One of our favorite parts of the island with landscapes, nature and history where a one-day trip can turn your time into an unforgettable adventure. Where the setting sun, full moon and sunrise will each create an atmosphere for memories that will last a lifetime. And of course, the moors where in late summer they create fantastic landscapes and... the purple sea.

Visited the North Yorkshire Moors and the scenery is so beautiful, we loved our drive through to Goathland village which was definitely worth a visit. So glad we went to the area. Seeing the sheep roam freely around the village and Moors was lovely too and the Heather on the Moors is so pretty ❤️

Staithes, on the coast is a beautiful fishing inlet similar to a Cornish cove accessible via a steep incline down to the cove. No vehicles allowed however there is ample pay to park at the top of the hill. When in the fishing village there are a number of small shops and bars where you can obtain local foods and souvenirs. Staithes has a number of visiting points of which I'll mention just a few, it's stunning beauty, captain cooks birthday place, st peters church and it's wood carvings, the local museum with it's stunning local history photos and models, and the friendly people therein. Finally staithes is not an easy area to get to mostly B roads but well worth the visit in good or foul weather.

I live in North Yorkshire and it's been the first time I've gone on the steam train from Pickering to Goathland, absolutely loved it. So scenic. I usually drive straight to Goathland, one of my new favourite places, this time it add a bit more adventure on the stream train.

Amazing views, only stopped briefly but will return when it’s warmer! There is a car park just off the main road where there is a coffee trailer. Great for taking in the views whilst sipping a cup of latte! There are I it about 40 parking spaces here though.

I recently visited North York Moors National Park and had an incredible experience, greatly enhanced by Neil B. Stone's travel guide from Amazon. The guide's historical context and practical tips made our trip easy and enjoyable. Stone's recommendations for trails and local spots were spot-on, making this book an essential companion.
