The rooms at this location are quite small. That said, it was very clean and comfortable to stay in. Room service... it's expensive, and they add a 20% gratuity without telling you when you order. I tip very well, but don't particularly like being forced to tip. It's effectively an upcharge. The burger was very undercooked. Their French fries are decent. You can't beat the location. There's a fantastic restaurant that is easy walking distance away called Jake's downtown. The Theatre is walking distance. It's a fantastic location.

I returned to The Northern Hotel for Thanksgiving week this year and was very happy I chose this splurge. The front desk showed me a couple rooms on the highest floor and I chose room 1004. The evening lighting in my room was lovely and the morning views outside the large south and east facing windows were incredible. I hung out at the Ten bar two evenings and got excellent craft cocktails from the talented mixologist. Other times I went to the great coffee shops and restaurants a short walk away from the Northern.|There were a couple small service glitches but the beds are still super comfortable, the room cleaners did an excellent job, and the parking valets were very convenient. They are not the cheapest but The Northern is clearly the best hotel in Billings. I am very happy about my stay. I'll be back.

We stayed here on a voucher because of a diverted flight. Checked in around midnight. The staff was kind, thoughtful, and efficient both and check in and check out the next morning. Could not have asked for better care. The hotel is beautiful and the room was cozy and immaculate. Definitely recommend.

Great stay. Location can't be beat. Once you figure out where to park (the garage with a walkway to the hotel), it was easy to get in and out. There's plenty of parking at their 5-story garage. The room was nice but little additions would make it great such as cups for brushing your teeth and side tables on both sides of the bed. The room was clean, neat, and comfortable. Great A/C, good shower and comfortable bed.

We found this historic Hotel customer lovingvftim the first step. Valet folks welcomed us with complimentary valet, opened doors, helped with our luggage. Check in was a breeze, friendly and helpful. The rooms are really nice, could use desk chair update, and second chair update. Maintenance was there in moments ti fix a small item. Housekeeping was the best I've seen in many years. Highly recommend.

Spent 3 nights at The Northern and it was excellent. The service was great, everyone so friendly from the front desk to the valet to the room service. Hotel is clean and the lobby is so beautiful! As far as location, it’s only 10 mins to the airport and walkable around the Main Street of Billings which has restaurants and a few shops. Really enjoyed the stay and glad we chose this hotel!

A very comfortable room, quiet; well decorated lobby area for holiday with upscale chairs and fireplace; a warm reception; newspapers to read; lovely bar/restaurant with good food; and connected to excellent breakfast spot - all right downtown with valet if needed

We were passing through from Yellowstone to Wyoming, and stayed one night. And a pleasant night it was. ROOMS: We were in a 5th floor room in the north corner, probably an odd layout being in the corner like that, but it was appointed very nicely, and quite comfortable. Shower had excellent pressure. Only minor quibbles were that the safe in the close was on an upper shelf, perfect for its open door to whack your head, and one side of the bed at the head was about five feet from the bathroom, making it not very private. 1st Avenue, unfortunately, is a pretty noisy street at night and early morning, and the A/C units behind the hotel made an audible hum in the room. But, again, we were very comfortable, and would willingly have stayed longer if we'd needed to. SERVICE: Both the desk staff and the valets were top-notch, friendly and helpful. AMENITIES: The hotel sports two restaurants: Bernie's Diner (breakfast and lunch), which was excellent, and TEN (bar and dinner) which was very good (and pricey). LOCATION: The hotel is in downtown Billings, so a bit of a drive from the interstate. The neighborhood is okay, not great. NET-NET: I'd certainly stay there again if I were passing through or visiting Billings. It's not cheap, but it was a nice stay.

Yelp
-12/2024- My husband and I were on a flight to Kalispell, MT that couldn't land due to fog. We ended up getting a voucher to stay in a hotel and I chose this one since it was at the top of the list. We really lucked out with this pick! If you have to stay in Billings overnight, this is the place you want to do it in. We were picked up from the airport by a very friendly shuttle driver. The worker at the front desk was very apologetic for not being faster in the check in process because they were completely unprepared to handle the influx of travelers due to the flight delay. While grateful for the apology, I felt like the check in process was incredibly quick and smooth. During check in, I realized I left my purse on the flight. As I was panicking and trying to find a way back to the airport, I passed the shuttle driver in the lobby. He said he was done making trips for the night, but didn't mind taking us back to the airport. This angel of a man drove us back, sat and waited the ten plus minutes it took them to find my purse, and then brought us right back to the hotel without expecting a thing! We were so grateful! The hotel was very, very cute and cozy. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas. There's a fireplace in the lobby that really just invites you in. There's a restaurant too that we would've loved to check out in the morning but didn't have the time for. The room was very clean and nice. I noticed this cool little advertisement offering a free glass of wine or beer if you came down to mingle at a certain time. They also had a coffee bar near the check in desk that was much appreciated the following morning after the wild night we had. They also let us know that if we needed water, we could snag some from the cooler in the fitness area. I thought that was a sweet thing to offer your guests. I don't know that we'll find ourselves in Billings, Montana again, but if we did, I would choose to stay here! Thank you, Northern Hotel, for taking care of us when everything was stressful and up in the air!

Yelp
I was not impressed with this place whatsoever. The staff is nice but outside of them I just didn't have a pleasant experience. There is NO microwave on the entire property. If you meal prep and have strict dietary restrictions, you might just be out of luck if nearby restaurants can't accommodate you. The elevators are small and cramped. The rooms are outdated in my opinion, and the air conditioning was cutting on and off throughout the night. I don't think I'll come back here.

Yelp
The hotel is nice and probably the best one in town but...my room wreaked of cigarette smoke. I turned up the heat and the room smelled worse. Maybe my neighbor was smoking i dont know. The corner room at the end of the hall the doors are very close and my neighbor thought slamming it was necessary. That sucked!! As other reviewers said, no refrigerator. I found my room fine, it was a king suite with a small sitting area. Road noise is loud but doesn't last all night. Window area gets pretty cold even with curtains closed...can't turn up the heat because it smells like cigarettes!!!! I'd come back but I'd bring air freshener. They have an offer of a free alcoholic beverage and I'm on the fence with that. Some of us don't need the temptation!!

Yelp
Pet friendly not! Otherwise it's vcomfy and over priced Location is ok and has good food

Yelp
Well after writing a great review on our first visit a couple of months ago, we attempted to stay at the Northern a second time. This was again a medical stay in Billings. Things changed and we needed to add a 3rd person/ patient to our itinerary as was our last stay we had 3 people. They wanted to double the price that we booked for and the price was twice as much as before a couple of months ago. After speaking to the supervisor, she was extremely rude, we asked to talk to the manager and the supervisor said there was no need to talk to the manager and that the manager would tell us the same thing... we decided to just make the 2 hour drive home and we canceled our room... which we booked 2 hours prior...she said there will be a cancellation fee. Which we were told at the time of booking there would be a full refund if we canceled. We really like this place and the people we worked with in the past but this really soured us to attempt another stay. The supervisor really needs to take customer service classes and then.... Made my wife cry and that isn't easy.

Yelp
I had a conference here, so I stayed here. It was convenient. I was excited. It's close to the airport (as is all of downtown Billings). The hotel seems very nice. Parking is included in the room rate. The staff were nice. What was not so nice? The NOISE! Oh my gosh. Every night, it was so noisy from the street. Then my last night there, there was a wedding, and the wedding noise was insane in my room. I think my room was directly above where the reception was held. It's like there is no insulation in the hotel for any sound. I've stayed in hotels in cities before and haven't had this type of experience. There was no mini-fridge in the room. The bed was comfortable, but I didn't sleep a lot with the noise. The bathroom was nice with a walk-in shower. Overall, because of the noise, I wouldn't stay here again. I saw a major hotel brand very close to it. If I came back, I'd stay there, and I really like boutique hotels.

Yelp
Our experience with the Northern Hotel was just okay. We ended up having to stay over night due to the bad weather, and it seemed to be the best option we could choose from in the area. However, the hotel room cost was $229 for one night, and I don't think that the price was worth it. The rooms are pretty small and it was honestly pretty dirty in there. I found two dead flies in the window sill, and the bathroom didn't seem the cleanest either. The door handle was also super odd that you had to open it upwards or else the door wouldn't open. There are just weird kinks to the hotel. When we came in, the lady that was working at the valet was very rude. She got annoyed with us when we weren't sure what she was asking. It was really a bad way to start our experience at the hotel. The other big negative is how loud it is. There is a gap under the door, so you can literally hear everything being said in the hallway.. All night long.. We will probably not come back to this hotel.

Yelp
5 stars for Shelby; she is the epitome of customer service. Let's be real here, Billings is for views/a home base for surrounding areas. It's not a food Mecca or hospitality hub. My review of Jakes was good but one meal out of a week ain't much. The hotel is older so outlets are not plentiful. You have to request a fridge in the room, which is not uncommon I feel. The no coffee in the room is lame but I understand why: hygiene. The rooms are over priced but if you want to stay in the area, they got you by the wallet. If you need anything, only ask Shelby. The male night crew is a joke. The older dude definitely peaked in high school and rather say no.

Yelp
While planning our trip to Yellowstone we decided the stops on the way there and back we're also important so booked locally owned or locally significant hotels - so on our way out of Yellowstone chose to take a northernly route through Billings and stay at Northern Hotel. We enjoyed our stay and we're very happy with the accommodations and staff. The room was a standard size (the rooms of some historic hotels are smaller than normal) and the beds comfortable. It's located downtown Billings in an area with good restaurants and cute shopping. The Big Dipper (ice cream) is right across the street if you want a cold treat. An historic movie theater is about a block away (The Babcock)

Virginia B.

Yelp
I recommended the Northern to out of town guests (a family with two small children) and was disappointed. No microwave or small refrigerator in the room/suite. Other details amiss.

Cindy D.

Yelp
Every once, in a while, you find a hotel that just exceeds expectations! And the Northern hotel in Billings did this for us. I am originally from Billings, and most of my family is still there. I wanted to bring my father back to his hometown to see his siblings again. This most likely will be our last visit altogether as my father is very ill. I need a specific room to be able to accommodate his needs being in a wheelchair and having a CNA with us. The accommodations were perfect! The is location is prime, and the service was outstanding. If you have the opportunity to have Shelby check you in, you'll see exactly what what I mean. Not only did she make our stay easier, but definitely more comfortable! I loved having the little restaurant at the bottom of the hotel, and the valet parking was a bonus for us! When we head back to Billings, this is exactly where we will be.

Mark B.

Yelp
We loved this hotel. We stopped in Billings on our way to northern Montana, and this hotel was perfect for our one night there. Downtown Billings is delightful, and the Northern is perfectly located for walking around and enjoying the city. The room was clean, large, and well equipped. However, I think it would be nicer to have a coffee maker and a mini-fridge. The staff in the hotel and the bar were friendly and helpful, and we would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone traveling to Billings

Thien H.

Yelp
I don't know what other Billings accommodations are like. I found the Northern Hotel to be cute, but nothing else really. There is no in-room coffee/tea maker, no complimentary breakfast (but there is a diner attached), no pool. Bathroom has no noticeable fan just light, but the bathroom stays really dry. The sound of the water going down the shower drain is oddly noisy. Staff is nice. The lobby is nice with the large fireplace. Parking is included, the garage is just south/right of the front. It's next to the hotel but not attached so you will have to brave the outside elements back and forth to your car. You use your hotel key card to get in and out of garage. Big Dipper ice cream is kitty corner, which I recommend. Restaurants are within walking distance, but we drove to the heights. There's a full service restaurant, Ten, in the building as well as a 50s themed diner for breakfast.

Bridgett S.

Yelp
The rooms here are clean small but clean some rooms are bigger than others. No refrigerators or microwave no coffee makers just two bottles of water that will cost you $10 if you drink both. The bathrooms are small but clean and nice. No grab bar in the shower and only a shower. I have only ever seen that in Hawaii. It was ok the glass was a bit freaky I felt like I was going slip in the shower into the glass. The shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and exfoliating body soap had a orange or tangerine sent. The moisturizer had a weird sent. The soap and the shampoo is loaded with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate so you get a lot of lather but it dries the hell out of your skin and hair. Traveling these days there is not much room in our carry on bags for clothing much less personal care products, so I needed room for my blazers and my Webster coat and my tooth brush. So yes the toiletries are something I want to know about. I'm sure there are others that also want to know as well. They give you a free glass of wine or beer. Never a good idea to drink in a city or town you dint know as a women traveling solo. That glass was still sitting in my room when I left for the airport. I went to both of their restaurants. Ten was definitely better, I hated the fries to salty the burger patty by itself was very good. The bun got soggy with the stack sauce so it fell apart and I had to eat my burger with a knife and fork sitting alone with a Pepsi or Coke I don't know what they served. The bartender was good and attentive unlike the staff at the diner, it had nice atmosphere I liked the look of the place. I would recommend Ten to others. Not Bernie's that restaurant is not a place I would go back too. There are other place around the area. Jakes was the best restaurant with in walking distance and priced well I enjoyed everything I had there. This hotel has a fitness room two restaurants, ice machines vending machines a tiny store tucked away under the stairs next to the bellmen store standing area. That's it no pool, no hot tub, no refrigerator. It's differently nice and very clean. And if you get a good sized room you will be comfortable. The smaller rooms have a bathroom and a bed. I would have liked a refrigerator and a better service staff in the diner.

Alex D.

Yelp
Love this hotel so much! I got married in Billings and stayed the night here. They had great service, and we added on the rose petals package option! They were also running a locals (Montana) deal at the time as well, which was great! Definitely check their running deals. This would be a great place even for a staycation. Also, as a former local, having Bernie's right down stairs is one of the best parts! One of my fave breakfast/brunch joints in town!

cathy j.

Yelp
Staff other than valet staff unfriendly and uncaring. Concerns were not addressed Two nights and no cleaning of the room. No fresh towels. No apologies. No bathtub rooms in the entire hotel! No full length mirror I'm room. Had a dressy event. Couldn't see ourselves. Bernie's was overcrowded by towns people. Waited 45 minutes to find out grill was down due to shortage of help. Overpriced and mediocre "brunch". Coffee cup got cold abs hard to lift. I won't return.

Lee W.

Yelp
Definitely a step up from the lodge we just left. Very nice and good location. A fall festival is going on right outside the hotel. We are able to walk to dinner tonight. Staff very friendly! We asked about a refrigerator and they brought one right up to our room.

Shona D.

Yelp
Poor Front Desk service, could not answer any questions, like where our rooms were. Had to dig thru my purse to sign the receipt. They could not provide one. When we asked for directions and complained, one desk clerk called me a name. Never stay there again

Rebecca G.

Yelp
I stayed two nights at the Northern on either end of my recent trip to the Billings area. It was fine. The rooms were clean but no coffee maker or refrigerator. Definitely not a "luxury" experience. There was a hotel shuttle to and from the airport which was convenient and one of the reasons I booked there. The afternoon I checked in for my last night in Billings I reserved the shuttle to the airport for 4:45 the next morning. However, they didn't have my reservation noted when I checked out. Luckily they were able to accommodate me but it created a little unneeded stress. For the price, I would definitely look into other accommodations on my next visit.

Franklin M.

Yelp
The hotel is situated in the heart of the city and the lobby is very welcoming. They offer free parking in the multi floor lot next door. We booked a room for two nights in a comfortable room. We didn't care for the stained wall paint which made the hallway look dirty. Everything was going smoothly until the 2nd night as we were awoken by a burning smell coming through the air ducts at 245am. We called the front desk because we couldn't shut off the air and it was making us worry that we can be poisoned from this. The front desk clerk couldn't do anything at 245am but said there was no alarms going off. We had to keep our room door ajar hoping for some fresh air from the hallway. The windows do not open so we suffered through the evening with little sleep. I received apologies from the front desk manager when we checked out but he should have given us the one free night because it was a lousy evening with no sleep. We left upset with the customer service response.

Gabriele K.

Yelp
The experience with the staff was so horrific. We are accustomed to the Langham in Pasadena. I booked our reservation on booking.com. Then I realized I must call the front desk to ask if they have the correct channel for the final FIFA match which occurs once every four years. The woman got very agitated and was rude. She did say they had the channel. I was uncomfortable but this was an important occasion for us because I have been so ill and we were combining events. My husband was seeking the best for me. On the side, I saw no Covid nor panviral precautions. We had a wonderful evening after driving 3 hours. The next morning there was no channel for FIFA. I called the front desk and did get upset due to the uncaring attitude. A simple "let us find you a place where you can watch it or perhaps a tablet to live stream the event or we are so sorry that we made this mistake". This is what we would usually receive from other hotels. Instead it was twisted so that we bizzarly became the unreasonable people and we were rude. We just wanted a solution. It quickly turned into a frightening situation with hostility and my husband was verbally threated with physical violence by the manager George who apparently is also the owner. We were very happy to leave but to all our physician, surgeon, scientist, professional colleagues, we highly recommend avoiding such a self-righteous, anti-customer hotel. If this were the Superbowl they would have had a riot. We support American Soccer and in doing so support the US's presence internationally. This is an anti-American and anti-International hotel. We are happy to be far away in the mountains back to respectable people. Never again will we return.

Rod S.

Yelp
An classic historic hotel downtown. It's an excellent room within the limitations of the room size you get in downtown hotels. The staff was friendly from when we were met to when we left. The Valet is free. Please tip well -- especially these days. They practiced everything I'd want related to COVID care. I was just here for the one night, but I'd come back as my first choice on another trip. The restaurants both look better than the average hotel dining.

Kathryn H.

Yelp
It was difficult to decide if I wanted to give this hotel a three or four star review for my brief stay. There were many excellent aspects to my room and the property, but there were also a few things that I would keep in mind for next time I am in town. First of all the property is located downtown and is surrounded by beautiful shops and delicious looking restaurants, all within walking distance. There is a curbside valet and the parking garage is right next door in case you need your quickly. Both the door service and check-in was excellent, and there were beverages and h'orderves in the lobby beyond the typical lemon water and cookies you may expect. Our corner room was beautiful, and the extra windows let in a lot of nice natural sunlight to wake up to. It was furnished well, seemed well maintained for an older hotel, and the bedding and bed were both very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and the soaps were in some of my favorite scents, so that was a pleasant surprise. However, even for a corner room, it was very small and I can't imagine staying more than a couple of nights in a standard room without becoming claustrophobic. Because of this we did not spend much time in the room while we were there. As it was an older hotel, the elevators are slow, and if you are staying on a higher floor getting in and out again when you feel antsy will take a while. On the other hand, this led us to explore downtown and we had a great night! Our dinner at TEN downstairs was excellent and well priced for the quality and service. The nightlife in the area was better than expected, and when it was time to go back to the room the complimentary Wifi was strong enough for me to do some gaming online. For the price and the amenities, I would definitely stay here again, but I may look into upgrading to a larger room if I had to stay more than a couple of days. That said, we had such a good time during our stay I would love to go back!

Gabriele K.

Yelp
We live in Wyoming. We have never lived in San Francisco. I have lived and worked for the rural communities. Just to clarify the misidentification on my profile for the review. Better holidays to you all. As a follow-up. I was going to dispute the charge on this hotel. I am sure looking at other reviews that they will refuse. They have no training in professionalism or conflict resolution. The result of their controlling voices and poor word choices makes them highly susceptible to unhappy customers. George is scary, and what is interesting is that at the front desk, they are not even sure what he is. He calls himself the owner, but the front desk has no idea about that. He is scary because he is in a leadership position. Personally, he is actually no match for us and many like us. We typically have no conflicts or issues and have traveled too much as of late. George is someone with deep-rooted issues and not worth any more seconds in the day. This, too, will and already has passed. No decent, respectable person should stay there. No surprise, the President of the United States did not stay there. They do their research very well. Lastly, support our soccer teams and their international representation! You will need to know how important FIFA is! Good luck and peaceful holidays.

Jason W.

Yelp
It's just okay. Very small rooms. Two of the power outlets didn't work. Dead fly in the center of the nice tiled floor in the bathroom. It's nicer then the Crown Plaza but that's not much competition. Honestly, a Hilton Garden Inn is nicer and cheaper. UpdAte: this place is still not that good. Came back from a long day hoping to order a pizza (which is on the room service menu) only to be told they don't sell pizza and that o should call domino's. Really?

Dan M.

Yelp
This was our second stay at The Northern Hotel. We booked a King room and there was no guarantee for a pull out. That being said we put in a request in the notes. I called the day of an Miranda had already assigned us a room with a pull out for our son. Hotel was just as clean as our last stay, quiet at night, and comfy beds. We will definitely be back.

Barbara S.

Yelp
It's always with great interest that I read other reviews. Interesting when they are so all over the board as they are here. I just spent two nights at the Northern Hotel and could not have been happier. Just a month new when I visited, there's still room to grow and I have no doubt they will be a five-star experience soon. The staff could not have been friendlier. My room was lovely and beautifully appointed. When people complain about rooms being "small" in historic hotels they have to realize that's how rooms were built 100 years ago. If you want 500 square feet, go to a chain. The owners are to be commended for taking on this Herculean task. Saving and preserving a historic landmark has brought new life to this corner of Billings. The lobby is chic and offers lots of sitting areas. Not to mention the beautifully executed gas fireplace. Two restaurants named for the owner's parents -- Bernie's Diner and TEN -- provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus a small bar and lounge. Big plates of comfort food and locally sourced products including Billings' own Rock Creek Coffee and Billings' brews. Bernie's decor is retro diner and so much fun. TEN is elegant and romantic but also just nice for friends to gather. My first night, I returned to my room to find the bed turned down and two perfectly delicious chocolate truffles bedside. When I needed recommendations of places to visit, the front desk staff made several suggestions and provided Google maps to guide me. The other nice thing about the Northern Hotel is it's close proximity to everything else downtown. Walking distance to art galleries, local breweries, other wonderful dining experiences, museums. You can just park your car and explore. But if you feel the need to drive, all of those great open spaces are just a few miles away. Free valet parking is available. Plus WiFi. A variety of meeting spaces large and small. And state of the art AV technology for meetings. Rooms include cozy bathrobes and flat-screen TV.

Yelp
Great location! And the accommodations are clean and pretty. The staff has that great Montana friendly and accommodating attitude that's such a treat when you're traveling. The rooms I've had here are pretty small, though, and they lack some things I really like, notably a refrigerator, a long mirror and a coffee set in the room.

Roy V.

Yelp
Not only was i shocked of how good this place is, I would say this was the best hotel Ive stayed in, in years. Totally surprised about how awesome the class, elegance, customer service were. I will never stay anywhere else again when I travel to Billings. The location was superb as well, as was the ease of checking in and out. 0 Complaints.

LB C.

Yelp
Probably our favorite hotel on our trip across the US from Chicago to home in woodinville wa. Friendly staff, great accommodations, pleasant later check in, effective, efficient, great accommodations in the room and very comfortable rooms! Little bar has local singers come in on Saturday's too for entertainment. Door men valet cars, actually open doors and knowledgeable about area. Would come back and stay again!

Kirk G.

Yelp
The Northern Hotel is 114 years old, and on its third rebuild after being burned to the ground in 1940, rebuilt and repeatedly remodeled through the years. Now. Claiming to be the most modern and luxurious hotel in Montana. It's my humble it is not. It is, however, very nice. The stuff is courteous, however, check in is very slow. The rooms are old school smaller size, but have been nicely remodeled. Comfortable beds - no refrigerator, no microwave, no pool or spa. They have a moderate fitness center. $5 for a bottle of water in your room. Ample attached city parking garage as well as Valet is also an option. Personally, I would probably not stay here again simply because I travel with many of my own Vegan food items that I prefer to refrigerate rather than keep up an ice chest.

Julianna S.

Yelp
Small "suite" with lack of basic amenities reminds me why I prefer to stay at the Doubletree instead. Seriously, no Kleenex, no full length mirror, no coffee in room. The beds they touted were harder than DT and pillows felt cheap.

Scott M.

Yelp
Goodmlring! Because that is what it is, morning, 4:50 to be exact, on 8/20/17. Now, I am fair and respectful, so you should know that on friendliness, cleanliness, and service the Northern is a nice place. However, when it comes to their shuttle driver, they can do a lot better. Sitting here in the lobby with my pilot having coffee the shuttle driver say (under his breath and only to the pilot) "per our contract i can't take anyone else to the airport, its all on my boss" Being a boss, and not stupid, i know that is code for i am an asshole. So i waited for 20 minutes for the next ride, which was the same stud who just drove my pilot to the airport. Sorry bud, but per my anti-asshole clause in my contract i can't tip you.

Yelp
This may be the nicest hotel in the world but what kind of people run this? They will not refund any money for a cancellation. And its a month away?? Careful people. Make sure you're willing to risk your money if you can't make it there. My wife had an accident and we had to cancel our whole trip. NO REFUNDS.

Yelp
Northern Hotel has my favorite local bar-- or, rather, bartender. Andrew mixes and creates the best cocktails in Billings. His attention to detail-- proper ingredients and proper mixing-- create consistently superb drinks. Stop here when Andrew is at the bar and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
First the good stuff: complimentary breakfast at Bernies diner, great location, room and decor was good. Now the bad stuff: the management and some of the staff really need a course in Customer Service 101. We were told we could check in one hourly early but when we arrived the woman checking us in seemed very confused about the room that was assigned to us and said we had to come back. She was very matter of fact and didn't offer any apology. She almost acted like we were in the wrong for being there. I believe her name was Miranda. The other woman was Mary Sue or Mary Beth and she was super apologetic and offered to take our number if the room was free before an hour. We got a call from her an hour later at 3 pm (check in time) that our room was ready so we headed back. We walked up the the front desk again and this time a woman with really big hair - like pageant hair - offered to check us in. But then suddenly someone called in on an intercom (employee named George) with some crisis and she asked the woman next to her to check us in. She asked her to do it twice and she was super rude about it. After we were checked in, I was standing by the elevator and the same woman was talking down to her front desk staff. I assume she was reviewing some vital information for the staff but the tone to her voice was condescending. I assume she is a floor manager or some sort but man, I would hate to work for her. As luck would have it, I turned in my keys when we checked out and it was this same woman. She went through the motions and went down her checklist of questions for me. How was your stay? Are you parked in the garage? Valet or self? When I answered that I had self parked my car I also asked myself - does this lady even like her job? A little genuine hospitality can go a long way. If you work in hospitality and you don't like working with people, we notice.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of everything (although it's my first trip to Billings so I'm kind of guessing about what's the center but there are a lot of fun places around). The room was beautiful and very high end-it feels like a Kimpton Hotel or similar high end chain. Free valet parking and a free glass of wine in the lounge. Really nice at reception, too. I'll come back next time I have an occasion to stay in Billings.

Yelp
Stayed here twice and both times it was an amazing experience! The staff is soo friendly and helpful and the convenience of the hotel and valet and parking etc. is top notch. Stayed both times during COVID-19 and the cleanliness measures they put in place made us feel extremely safe. Our second trip we ended up rescheduling the room 3 times and they kept our rate the same and were completely accommodating. Will plan on staying here every time I'm in Billings!

Yelp
My favorite hotel when I'm in Billings, MT. The room is quite nice. However there is no view but looking out to a garage building. The beds are comfortable. The only complaint I have is no coffee (maker) in the room. I have to go downstairs to grab a cup of coffee at the lobby. That's a huge hassle. If you like a refrigerator or microwave in your hotel room, this is not your hotel. But it's a nice one.

Yelp
I have to admit that this is the best place to stay in Billings. I was recommended this hotel by a local and definitely was worth it. The staff is extremely friendly and on my first stay was greeted by their complimentary valet who helped me in during a bit of a snow flurry. They were so welcoming that right away I was excited to check in. The process was a breeze and I was up in my room in no time. The lobby is nice, quaint but not overly decorated because we all know hardly anyone spends time there anyway. The room I have stayed in is a standard king. The bed is awesome! Perfect amount of firmness and softness, great temperature in the rooms and I really love that the tv is directv, makes for finding the channels I want much easier! The room is a bit small, but for one person and for no real room time other than sleep and getting ready it's perfect. I do wish they had a little better water pressure in the showers, but they are fine. TEN and Bernies (in separate reviews) are attached to the hotel and they do have a nicely organized fitness room with machines and free weights. If you're in Billings, want a nice place to stay and in walking distance of some fun spots, be sure to stay here.

Yelp
WOW! I couldn't think of a single complaint. Super friendly staff, impeccably clean room and bathroom. Very modern, tasteful, inviting. I really hope they get the Parking deck finished soon bc tipping the valet seemed very necessary but a bit excessive. They say it should be done may/June this year. Though I would definitely return regardless! Plus the room rate was cheaper than at the last dump we stayed at in Billings!

Yelp
How wonderful that the Nelson brothers have done such a beautiful renovation of a Billings historic (110-yr old) hotel. Lobby is very hip Montana modern w/ beautiful fireplace, cow skin chairs and cool artwork, My mom was excited to stay here, after great memories of coming here for dinner with her boyfriend for dinner some 50 yrs ago, and w/ her parents about 60 yrs ago. Everything about the stay was first class: Rooms are beautifully done in same Montana modern decor. Bed was super comfy. Very friendly staff (printed some documents for me from the front desk), fine fitness room, little diner (Bernie's just ok), and hip restaurant/bar, TEN, which had live music some nights. Free valet parking, and complimentary coffee/looseleaf tea in the morning in the lobby. Tip: if you join the hotel's iPrefer club, you can earn points toward future stays, and get certain special offers - we got free upgrade to a suite (very nice) and breakfast for 2 each day. Altogether, a very pleasant stay.

Yelp
A taste of Manhattan in Billings, Montana. As a New Yorker in Billings on Business, it was a fantastic respite from two weeks in small, road side hotels in Wyoming and Montana. Gorgeous hotel with modern amenities and cool vibe. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Oh my. We were waylaid in Billings after Alaska cancelled our flight to Seattle. We procured a beautiful 2 bedroom suite for the night. My wife and I in one room and our son in the other. Could not get out of billings until 6 the next night. Our room was sold for the next day and we had to vacate at the usual 11 am checkout. I asked if they would be willing to sell me a cheap room for the afternoon so we could have a place to crash for the afternoon. Front desk man Tony checked with the boss and they COMPED a 2 bedroom suite for the afternoon!! Serious customer service. Way to get that done Tony!! Lovely hotel, fantastic restaurant, great bar. Oh and Bernie's diner (connected) very cool and great food. Northern, you hit it out of the park for our family in need.

Yelp
I hit on this gem by accident through Hotwire. Hotel rooms were at a premium as I came through Billings and this was a fair deal. What a pleasant surprise! This is a completely renovated old hotel in downtown Billings with a wealth of history. I reminded me of the Davenport in Spokane, Washington. It's a great, classy place. Free parking in a parking building right next door. Friendly, helpful staff, old style diner, fancier restaurant, bar. Your in the middle of downtown with lots of dining and "nightlife" choices. Though their room prices are a bit on the high side for a price conscious guy like me but it's worth it and I've seen (and received) a good deal.

Yelp
The accommodations were very nice and comfortable, as the hotel was recently renovated. I found the staff to be extremely unaccommodating, though. I typically stay at a Hilton when out of town on business, but decided to go with a local hotel in the heart of downtown. I'm used to hotels providing some level of customer service, but each time I had a simple request, it was succinctly denied. This is a nice place, just don't ask for any favors.

Yelp
The Northern is one of the most beautiful, convenient, comfortable and friendly hotels in Montana! This is my first stay, but certainly won't be my last. Oh my gosh! Try the food at either restaurant... fabulous.

Yelp
From the moment that I walked in the door, I was treated like royalty. Everyone from the manager, front desk staff, room service workers and housekeeping staff were warm and friendly. Truly spectacular fireplace and cozy area to sit in the morning or evening. This place still go down as one of my favorites!!
