Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting on Lake Kabetogama

Excellent family reunion at Northern Lights Resort. There were 16 of us that stayed in their largest cabin with 5 bedrooms. We've been meeting annually for over 5 years at various locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and we all agreed that this was the best one - The older kids (ages 8-9) could be independent and fish off the dock in full sight of us. The availability of kayaks and canoes, lifejackets, fishing rods without any extra charge was amazing. Our cabin was right on the beautiful lake, and there was plenty of room for people to move about, inside and outside. The staff were very nice and helpful. We rented a Pontoon for a day, and did some hiking in the Park. We highly recommend Northern Lights Resort.

I used Northern Lights for a multi-day canoe rental when camping. I didn't see the cabin interiors but they looked well kept from the driveway. My car was safely parked there during my camping trip. The staff was easy to book with a few months ahead of my trip via phone. The canoe rental pricing was competitive compared to other locations I saw. Their wood bundles cost a bit more than normal Indiana prices, but they're large bundles. Two bundles cost $20 ($10 a pop) and lasted for 6-7 hours of fire today. Most importantly, in the departure prep, they ensured I understood that if anything went wrong - that i could give them a call and they'd come to our campsite to assist as needed. They also offered a map of the lake - I already had one - but it's another example of their service. Overall, I recommend them. If I'm ever in the area for a cabin, I'd start with them.

Amazing service! This place is truly a fantastic resort on the lake. I didn't stay at a cabin but they were able to accommodate a last minute multi-day boat rental after my previously booked boat had a broken prop the day before. Great location and everyone was helpful and kind; which can't be said for all businesses on the lake. And the property is so cute! Can't recommend this place enough.

We did not stay in the accommodations, but we used NLRO to rent a fishing boat for 3 days to do some ‘front country’ camping in sites on Kabetogama Lake. I researched a lot of outfitters planning this trip, and while many in the area will rent to non-lodge guests, NLRO was one of the only ones that would do overnight boat rentals (site with a dock required, but that wasn't an issue). We travelled from out of state and couldn’t bring a boat, so we really appreciated that they offered this overnight option so we could camp in Voyageurs NP. Everyone we interacted was friendly and helpful, even letting us borrow a fishing pole when my husband accidentally broke his mid-trip, and accepting our boat return in the middle of a downpour. Great experience, and the resort itself looked like a cozy place to unwind for a few days (if you prefer cabins to camping!).

We rented a pontoon there and it was good. There are a couple of things I didn't like. - The lake is beautiful but is very rocky and you have to be careful. Otherwise you could damage the boat/propeller and you would be responsible for that. - The lady at the office was rude and frustrated when I asked some questions about if we can try other trajectories that seemed more in the open water. She gave directions about the locations we should avoid and the exact single trajectory we should follow but no one of us could completely grasp all the details because we are not experts and it was too much to grasp. She got rude when I tried to re-ask to make sure we are following. She was reciting. Lady, if you read this, Patience is a virtue. If you are giving directions, make sure people follow. Otherwise you are being useless. Not a great experience if you are paying $200+ to have fun. I recognize that the gentelman who helped us starting the boat was very kind and nice and he makes sure we understand. Kuddos to him. I have rented a Pontoon in Rainy lake and it was a much better experience overall at a better price.

A great resort and service all around. I wish they would advertise no air conditioning in the loft. Not an ideal place to stay in 90 degree weather.

I did not stay at the resort, but I did rent a boat and explore Lake Kabetogama and Voyageurs National Park. The staff was amazing. It seems like it is a family business and they were all a pleasure to talk to and deal with. They were so nice and helpful. She gave me so many good recommendations. The dock hands were great too. Such an excellent experience. The boat and the whole rental experience was top notch. The lake and national park were absolutely beautiful. I saw so many bald eagles. It was awesome. They were all over the place hanging out on islands, in trees, and flying around. I highly recommend them for your boat rental needs. You do not need to be a guest at the resort to rent a boat. From what I saw, the resort looked spectacular too, but I did not stay so I can review that.

Such a great location right on the lake. The cabin had everything you needed to cook your own meal. The staff was very kind. We were lucky enough to get to see Northern Lights and we got to Kayak.
