Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting on Lake Kabetogama

My husband and I stayed in the Eagles Nest. It was great for us, super functional for everything we needed! The staff were great, always being able to help with the boat, or recommend places to fish, or have a great chat! Check in was super easy as was check out. We enjoy "getting away" and the resort is quiet with not many other cabins to have a peaceful stay. With the lake facing the north, you can have spectacular views of these auroras as well! An affordable and comfy option for Voyaguers National Park stay, or fishing trip to Lake Kab!

My husband and I had a great stay in the Eagles Nest Cabin! The location was perfectly situated for our trip to Voyaguers National Park, being only a few minutes away from the Kabetogama Visitors Center and close to Ash Visitors Center and the trails there. Our cabin suited us perfectly and met our needs. We rented a boat so we could hike the back country trails and do some fishing. The staff were super friendly, accommodating and helpful with recommending good fishing spots or listening to your fish tales! The resort is also away from other resorts in a quiet area, so if you're like us and want to get away from the crowds this is the place for you!

Excellent family reunion at Northern Lights Resort. There were 16 of us that stayed in their largest cabin with 5 bedrooms. We've been meeting annually for over 5 years at various locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and we all agreed that this was the best one - The older kids (ages 8-9) could be independent and fish off the dock in full sight of us. The availability of kayaks and canoes, lifejackets, fishing rods without any extra charge was amazing. Our cabin was right on the beautiful lake, and there was plenty of room for people to move about, inside and outside. The staff were very nice and helpful. We rented a Pontoon for a day, and did some hiking in the Park. We highly recommend Northern Lights Resort.

I used Northern Lights for a multi-day canoe rental when camping. I didn't see the cabin interiors but they looked well kept from the driveway. My car was safely parked there during my camping trip. The staff was easy to book with a few months ahead of my trip via phone. The canoe rental pricing was competitive compared to other locations I saw. Their wood bundles cost a bit more than normal Indiana prices, but they're large bundles. Two bundles cost $20 ($10 a pop) and lasted for 6-7 hours of fire today. Most importantly, in the departure prep, they ensured I understood that if anything went wrong - that i could give them a call and they'd come to our campsite to assist as needed. They also offered a map of the lake - I already had one - but it's another example of their service. Overall, I recommend them. If I'm ever in the area for a cabin, I'd start with them.

Amazing service! This place is truly a fantastic resort on the lake. I didn't stay at a cabin but they were able to accommodate a last minute multi-day boat rental after my previously booked boat had a broken prop the day before. Great location and everyone was helpful and kind; which can't be said for all businesses on the lake. And the property is so cute! Can't recommend this place enough.

I’m sad to report that I can’t recommend this resort. We have vacationed at this resort for 7 years. For the last 2 years, the number of employees has been reduced to a third of what it once was. This year, during a storm, a pontoon boat belonging to the resort broke the ropes tying it to the dock and slammed into our boat causing major damage. The resort said their insurance didn’t cover the damages, and they didn’t offer any compensation when asked for it. I expected a certain amount of loyalty from them. Guess it all boils down to money. Do Not Bring Your Own Boat There!

We did not stay in the accommodations, but we used NLRO to rent a fishing boat for 3 days to do some ‘front country’ camping in sites on Kabetogama Lake. I researched a lot of outfitters planning this trip, and while many in the area will rent to non-lodge guests, NLRO was one of the only ones that would do overnight boat rentals (site with a dock required, but that wasn't an issue). We travelled from out of state and couldn’t bring a boat, so we really appreciated that they offered this overnight option so we could camp in Voyageurs NP. Everyone we interacted was friendly and helpful, even letting us borrow a fishing pole when my husband accidentally broke his mid-trip, and accepting our boat return in the middle of a downpour. Great experience, and the resort itself looked like a cozy place to unwind for a few days (if you prefer cabins to camping!).

I rented a motorboat over Labor Day weekend and unfortunately damaged the prop and skeg. I spoke with Steve (one of the owners), who was incredibly genuine and very knowledgeable about boats. He walked me through the repair process and gave me an estimate, which at first felt overwhelming as a student. Three weeks later, Tracy (also the owner) sent me the final bill, and to my surprise, they only charged me for the cost of the replacement part — they covered the mechanic’s labor cost to help with my budget. Their kindness truly made my day! I highly recommend Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting on Lake Kabetogama!

Tracy is absolutely the best resort operator on Kabetogama. We stopped by the other day and she had staff detailing the stainless steel grills (that had sear stations)!!! We toured many of the cabins and we were very impressed. By far, Northern Lights has the nicest and most luxurious cabins in Voyageurs National Park.

Northern Lights Resort is great--we rented a kayak there during a trip to Voyageurs National Park, and the staff was helpful and friendly and made it so easy. We weren't able to start out until the afternoon and still had plenty of time to kayak around the nearby island. Great trip, wonderful service, lovely scenery!

In September, we had a fabulous relaxing get away to this resort. Friendly staff, with comfortable, clean well-equipped cabins. Fantastic expansive views of the lake as a perfect back drop to early sunrises & slow sinking sunsets. The autumn leaves were bright & colorful. One evening was cloudless & I got to see the northern lights dance across the night skies! Memories to last a lifetime. We enjoyed boating in Voyageur's National Park and exploring the islands on Lake Kabetogama (200 to choose from) and the artistic Ellsworth rock sculpture garden & picnic area. We had never seen anything like it before. Amazing! Tip: they have public bathrooms if you need a pit stop. We hope to make it an annual tradition & join the fisherman next round. They were raking in the fish (& the resort staff cleans them for you too)! And for last minute get aways you can make them a discounted offer on a cabin stay & get great value for the price.
