Simple review:
We did 4 night Aurora, clothing rental, dog sled, and ice fishing. This company offers the best overall package at a fraction of the cost of alternatives. Very accommodating and friendly.
Detailed review:
Aurora - I strongly recommend doing at least 2 nights. We saw very strong Auroras nights 2 and 4. If you don’t do multiple nights, you risk the chance of not catching a strong one. This tour is not like the others. The tour stays out late (we went till almost 3am one night, while other tour buses gave up and went home at midnight) because the hosts are committed to having you witness at least a small Aurora. They took us to a different location every night. They also take pictures until your heart is content. Thank you Julian, Isaac, Halley, and the drivers!
Clothing rental - Honestly a necessity. Only half the group rented and those that didn’t regretted it. They give you the whole package (gloves, boots, pants, jacket, and delivery) at a much cheaper price than other options.
Dog sled - I was hoping the tour would be with sundog adventures because they have kicksleding but I believed they were closed on New Year’s Eve. Ended up doing the tour with Enodah kennels. This one was toboggan style. Dogs ran an okay trail for 20 ish minutes, it was just alright. Dogs were super cute.
Ice fishing - We were lucky enough to witness a fish getting caught by someone in our tent. From what I heard, no other fish was caught the entire session. I think this is the nature of ice fishing, as the fish probably moved away after seeing a brother get pulled to the top. The fish that they cooked for us was very delicious, one of the best tasting fish I’ve had ever.
I need to add that they picked us up and dropped us off at the airport on their own expense.
If you’re going to come to Yellowknife for your once in a lifetime experience, I highly recommend booking it with northern lights tours.
