Notre Dame Cathedral

A must see Cathedral and history compelling. Just beautiful.

Walked to this cathedral from the ship pier. Easy walk, maybe 15 minutes. The grounds were beautiful, well kept. The design took advantage of the breeze so the inside temperature was probably 10 degrees less.

A cathedral integrating Marquesian art . It was renovated by the french Bishop Mgr Hervé Cléach, originally a Father of the Sacred Hearts or Picpus Fathers. The same bishop created the Académie des Marquises and the Festival des Marquises. Big steps in finding back the original culture of the Marquises Islands.

Beautiful carved figures depicting the Stations of the Cross in a shady, airy cruciform cathedral. So perfect for the environment of Nuku Hiva, which is in Polynesie Francaise
