Nottingham Contemporary

We have been first time here. It was ok but not something great what we were expecting. Musicians were playing beautifully, but we were expecting to have more instruments like piano as well, but there wasn’t and also the place was very small and we were expecting to be in really big hall like on the pictures of candlelight concert

AMAZING ART GALLERY !!! Completely free to enter and so well done. The gift shop was also amazing. I cannot recommend this enough.

It's a good contemporary galery. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary art is sometimes it doesn't show mastery of skills but concentrates on the message. My preferences aside, it's a good place, good lighting, great and friendly staff with lots of events and community engagement activities. If you are into contemporary art (or stuck for options) I definitely reccomend paying a visit. Overall a wonderfully place and staff.

Fre entry! It's a large, pleasant space. The Exhibition we saw ( and heard) took time tune into, but gradually we allowed ourselves to absorb the sounds, images and ideas. It was thought provoking, surprising yet also calming. Cafe food excellent and affordable, mostly veggie options. Most. Enjoyable.

I visited many times this Building and always been happy to see the artist from around the world, as a source of culture , they contribute our community, with events such a candles stick night, what I recommend to see , and visit regularly, becouse always have something to discover and take away in your heart.

I remember coming here often as a child growing up, which initially got me into art in the first place. First time visiting again after a long time, and I love how it's stayed the same! Would love to see more exhibitions in the future, and come visit again :) Also, not sure if The Space on the lower ground floor is still being used as part of exhibitions or not? But I remember that room being the best part of my childhood!

Spacious, organized space and helpful staff. Nice gift shop with lots to choose from, good for presents. Friendly cafe with clean, well presented toilets. Gallery was tidy and had a good atmosphere. Thought provoking and professional exhibitions. Noticed the roof outside the entrance has a lace pattern, fitting in with the history of the area. There is a Tate modern feel to the building inside and out. Free to get in, but felt I should leave a donation which is easy to do. I look forward to more visits!

The other reviews are not exaggerating, the cafe and bookstore part of the museum are fun, engaging, and genuinely interesting. The museum itself has 4 showrooms with rotating exhibitions that tend to lean more towards bizarre - which to be fair, can be considered art to some so I don't want to yuck their yum. I did find this boat exhibit to be thought provoking so I figured to share. The museum has free entry so it is genuinely worth checking out and you can always just get some books/crafts or hang at the cafe if you prefer.

Nottingham Contemporary is a fairly modest art museum dedicated to modern art - and it always features two parallel temporary exhibitions, there are no permanent displays. Sometimes they're preparing the two exhibitions at the same time, so you might not be able to see *any*thing here - so, check in advance what's on. Even under the best of circumstances, Nottingham Contemporary is of limited interest in a city that doesn't even have a permanent gallery for "traditional" art - in a a city of 400,00+ people that's quite embarrassing. During none of my three visits I found anything to occupy my mind for more than 30-40 minutes, and that's both displays, combined. At least the last time (October 2019) I was allowed to take photos, which was prohibited on previous occasions. And the entry is free, so I guess beggars can't be choosers. The shop is more entertaining than the rest of the gallery. Only if you're already in the vicinity!

A wonderful space for the exhibition of art. There are four large main rooms on the street level. All are light, airy spaces, which can be eerily quiet due to the large soft-closing semi-automatic doors which divide them. All galleries are very accessible and easy to get around. They all fan out from the central reception /shop. There's also the Small Collections room (accessible from Gallery 1) - make sure you check all of the drawers! The contemporary "art" that the gallery fills it's rooms with, is, however, a little "odd" and eclectic for my, rather more classical, interpretation of what constitutes "art". Most of the exhibitions appear to be rough, crude, amateurish, nightmarish or plain bizarre. But if you've just wasted several years on drugs at art college, you might love it. Make up your own mind. I just don't get it. However, entry is free... Great café, bar and presentation space downstairs.

Ngl, I found this place really triggering. I had such a huge reaction to one of the exhibits I had to leave. It is overwhelming, surreal, uncomfortable and weird.

Horrible visit. I walked in and said hello to the counter help and was completely ignored. The current exhibit is terrible. Bad use of space. Do not waste your time here. Very pretentious for a provincial town. They need to spend time in a real art gallery.
