32 Best Things to Do in Lisbon, Portugal's Sun-Soaked Capital | Condé Nast Traveler

"Run by Pedro (who left advertising for wine), this must-visit spot teaches the many Portuguese grape varieties as he tailors recommendations to your taste, pairing pours with small plates—think sardines and meats—so well you’ll want to ship a few favorite bottles home." - Abigail Malbon

I never give full 5 stars, but I had to make an exception. The experience starts from your first step inside, the place is built perfectly. The staff is more skilled in wine then most sommelier I've met even in michlen restaurants. The food is not only great but with precision. Everything about the place is precise and any little detail in the place was given sophisticated thought. If you like wine, and are in Lisbon, you must pass through.

We had an amazing night at Nova. After a long day walking the hills of Lisbon their concept "you choose the food and we choose the wine" is a perfect way to relax. Every bite, paired with a perfect wine ... and a beautiful reflection of Portuguese grapes. The bread and olive oil was so good I could drink a glass of the olive oil. The oysters, fresh and paired perfectly with a white wine. Fish cakes were tasty. Above all, the friendly and fun service the staff provided was outstanding. Do go see this quaint lil wine bar in Lisbon!

Wow, Pedro thank you! We stumbled across this gem and I’m so glad we did! The food and wine were incredible - even my picky eater parents agreed. I’ve been a little scared to try sardines but tried it here and it was SO delightful. Each of the food/wine pairing went so well with each other and Pedro gave us explanations to put it all into context. Highly highly recommend!!

Wow, this wine bar and restaurant is just absolutely incredible. Our first night in Lisbon, we went here after dinner and were blown away by how intimate and personally curated the experience was. João helped us pick a couple dishes and suggested wines to pair each with. He explained why each wine would pair well, along with an explanation of where in Portugal each wine came from. Our experience was so good that we came back for our last night in Lisbon for a full dinner, along with wine pairing. Our second visit was even better than the first, with both the hostess and João remembering us and taking incredible care of us. Some Google ratings in Lisbon seem artificially inflated, but Nova Wine Bar has absolutely earned its 4.9 stars as of September 2025.

Loved this spot! We tried two cheeses and the ham — all perfectly curated — and Pedro gave us great wine pairing tips. Every choice was spot on for the four of us. Cozy, elegant and delicious!

What a gem! So glad we came in. Pedro made our visit along with his lovely staff. Our first time in Portugal, we love wine but don’t know much about it so we let Pedro lead the way. We had such a blast joking with him and learning from him. The food was fantastic as was the wine. Also our first time trying Port and we fell in love. I wish we would’ve have more time to come back but if we ever make it back to Lisbon, this will be our first stop!!

This place is really SO special. If you're in Lisbon, this is an excellent choice for dinner - especially if you want to try lots of different foods! We ordered 7 dishes to share, and each was paired with a glass of wine. Every single dish was beautifully plated and tasted phenomenal, we were awed. The wine pairings were always spot-on. It's such an intimate setting, you feel at home and the servers make you feel like family. Food we loved: sourdough, octopus, blood sausage, sardines, fried cod, stewed rabbit salad, drunk pears for dessert

This establishment deserves 10 stars and Pedro deserves 11. Kind of a place where you walk in, without speaking any Portuguese, but if you speak wine language, you immediately feel at home. Kind of a place you leave knowing you will return tomorrow. And we will (return tomorrow) to try the food and some more amazing wine. Just don’t ask for the bottle in the picture. That one (and all that’s left of it) is mine.
