32 Best Things to Do in Lisbon, Portugal's Sun-Soaked Capital | Condé Nast Traveler

"Run by Pedro (who left advertising for wine), this must-visit spot teaches the many Portuguese grape varieties as he tailors recommendations to your taste, pairing pours with small plates—think sardines and meats—so well you’ll want to ship a few favorite bottles home." - Abigail Malbon

Google
I never give full 5 stars, but I had to make an exception. The experience starts from your first step inside, the place is built perfectly. The staff is more skilled in wine then most sommelier I've met even in michlen restaurants. The food is not only great but with precision. Everything about the place is precise and any little detail in the place was given sophisticated thought. If you like wine, and are in Lisbon, you must pass through.

This downtown cosy wine bar offers a fusion petisco menu with an extensive wine offer at fair prices with informal service in a minimalistic ambiance. We were 3 for dinner who chose the couvert, fresh goat cheese, escabeche de coelho, a delicious lascas de bacalhau, the ox tail with salad, all with waters, a few glasses of wine and a coffee for €40/pax. IT is a favourite ✨💫

Google
Truly the best wine bar in Lisbon ♥️ We had the loveliest time — the staff and the owner were so welcoming, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. They were incredibly helpful in helping us choose a wine, and the Dois Carvalhos Reserva was absolutely excellent. A bottle of that, paired with goat cheese and sourdough, made our evening truly wonderful. Highly recommend!

Google
The best way to spend a last afternoon with friends Seriously. It’s a wine bar, and they’ve got great munchies. And, even more importantly, they’ll happily spend all the time in the world with you figuring out what you want to drink - anything from pairings to “just a glass of wine” Seriously, just an awesome place!

Google
We had an amazing night at Nova. After a long day walking the hills of Lisbon their concept "you choose the food and we choose the wine" is a perfect way to relax. Every bite, paired with a perfect wine ... and a beautiful reflection of Portuguese grapes. The bread and olive oil was so good I could drink a glass of the olive oil. The oysters, fresh and paired perfectly with a white wine. Fish cakes were tasty. Above all, the friendly and fun service the staff provided was outstanding. Do go see this quaint lil wine bar in Lisbon!

Yonara is great! She helped us so much!! I loved the food, the atmosphere, the wine! It was a superb experience. Save some room and taste the drunk pear for a dessert

Wow, Pedro thank you! We stumbled across this gem and I’m so glad we did! The food and wine were incredible - even my picky eater parents agreed. I’ve been a little scared to try sardines but tried it here and it was SO delightful. Each of the food/wine pairing went so well with each other and Pedro gave us explanations to put it all into context. Highly highly recommend!!

Google
Wow, this wine bar and restaurant is just absolutely incredible. Our first night in Lisbon, we went here after dinner and were blown away by how intimate and personally curated the experience was. João helped us pick a couple dishes and suggested wines to pair each with. He explained why each wine would pair well, along with an explanation of where in Portugal each wine came from. Our experience was so good that we came back for our last night in Lisbon for a full dinner, along with wine pairing. Our second visit was even better than the first, with both the hostess and João remembering us and taking incredible care of us. Some Google ratings in Lisbon seem artificially inflated, but Nova Wine Bar has absolutely earned its 4.9 stars as of September 2025.

Yelp
Had a great night at Nova! Love the concept "you choose food, we choose wine" after a day of wandering the hills of Lisbon. The service , food , and every sip was fantastic! They had fun with us too! Do try the olive oil and bread ... I could drink a glass of the olive oil alone. This quaint wine bar is a must!

Yelp
One of the BEST wine bars in Lisbon!!! The Owner, Pedro is a true gem of a human!! His warmth and passion for wine really comes through and you can tell how much he cares about it! I came here twice while in Lisbon, 1st time I randomly found it, and so happy I did! The 2nd time i returned because I had a terrible wine at a restaurant prior, and it was our last night in Lisbon so when we returned to Nova Wine bar we told Pedro about the bar wine we just had and he felt so bad that he went into the back and found us a special bottle!! He turned our night around and made it a great last night!!

Yelp
Lovely small wine bar , lots of local wines . Little bit on the expensive side due to location probably but owner is very hospitable and makes it a nice experience . Service is great too

Yelp
We LOVED the Nova Wine Bar. Nestled in the historic downtown section of Lisbon, NWB is a real find. Outstanding service, food, and yes, wines! The owner seems to always be on the premises and offered great recommendations on wine courses (1/2 glasses offered) to pair with food choices. Their motto is "you choose the food, we help with the wine selections." Just let them go with what to drink -- it was fun and they take the task seriously. I also noted they didn't choose the most expensive choice that might pair well. We had oysters and octopus -- all delicious! For dessert we got the chocolate moose with orange peel -- it was incredible (not hyperbole). We had a nice port and Madeira to finish it off. Reasonably priced (75 € for everything including some Euro for the staff), small (max capacity about 25 people) and date-night fun. Would give NWB 6 stars if it was an option. #Loved

Yelp
Amazing wine bar. The make the best pairing for their offerings. Great knowledge of Portuguese wines. Amazing atmosphere.

Yelp
We came to Nova for tapas style snacks and a good bottle of wine after a long day of sightseeing. The space is small, so be sure to get there early or be prepared to wait. The walls were painted beautifully and the ambiance was trendy but casual. The food selection was large for such a tiny place. We enjoyed jamón iberico, oysters, and a delicious cheese. Our bottle of red wine was also chilled perfectly. You won't find many locals here, as it is located in a touristy area of Lisbon. However, we enjoyed our snacks and wine and I recommend it if you're looking for an easy night close to your hotel!

Yelp
If I could've spent more time here in the Nova Wine Bar during our trip to Lisbon I would have. This place has an amazing assortment of wines and the owner/sommelier was genuinely nice and helpful. On our first day in Lisbon, Wifey and I each tried a couple wines and we had a delicious cheese plate - it was a mild sheep cheese drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with herbs and some sun dried tomato. We were on our way to our first tour so we didn't have time for more...which was sad because I could have sat their all night. Such a nice location and a beautiful atmosphere.

Yelp
In a trip filled with excellent dining experiences, our serendipitous stop at Nova was a highlight. Pedro, the proprietor, personally saw to us. We chose small plates and he came with wine recommendations that built upon the sumptuous bites. I'm not an oyster consumer, but I took a chance and boy was the oyster a gastronomic delight! Similarly the swordfish sliced carpaccio-thin! Highly recommended! The location is touristy and I expect a lot of the clientele are - as us - visitors. Still, the space is appealingly upscale, warm, welcoming and utterly devoid of the usual tourist kitsch. Definitely will visit again.

Yelp
Unassuming yet awesome place! Lots of energy, friendly and the owner is incredible at picking out great wine based on your taste. We're here a week, will be back several more times!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in Lisbon. A wonderful experience for anyone who loves and wants to learn more about Portuguese wines. The owner makes the experience personal and memorable.

Yelp
Amazing service and selection of wines!! Super close to everything, walking distance from our Airbnb.

Deirdre G.

Yelp
The owner was a very pleasant man who knows his wines! He offered great wine suggestions with food pairings. I stopped here on a whim and I am so glad I did...I loved it!

Yelp
5 stars.... Pedro, the owner, is the chef and Sommelier extraordinaire. His sixth sense to take your wine personality and pair it with one of his amazing creations is impeccable. My friend and I are foodies and have our own particular wine tastes. He was able to Perfectly match our distinctive wine palates with impeccable food pairings. He incorporates some of his recipes from his grandmother to create beautiful pairings. We were so impressed we came back here after a horrible experience at a local Michelin restaurant. This is a must try when you are in town. We met out nextdoor table-mates that drove an hour to come here with her friend from another country.

Yelp
This is a fantastic wine bar showcasing beautiful Portuguese wine. They also have small plates you can share. The most amazing part of our experience was meeting Pedro. This guy knew his wine and was so very personable. He careful selects his wine and he has some very complex wines so definitely an experience not to miss in Lisbon. Nadia was our waitress and she was fantastic in making recommendations.

Yelp
The gentleman attending us was very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a great selection of wines and the small plates they also have as options were all delicious.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this amazing wine bar and their wonderful service. Pedro took such good care of us! We loved the Paulo Vinhas Velhas Tinto Red so he opened a bottle of Herdade do Rocim from Alentejano which blew us away. Beautiful wines but even better social experience, can't wait to go back!

Yelp
#1 the lovely gentleman who attended us! 10 Stars! Charming, witty & kind. I have come here t o realize that Lisboa and I are drinking soul buddies. Everywhere I go there is something sweet ie. Ginja or MOSCATEL. Moscatel de Setubal is everywhere and here too. If u have been walking around in this hilly mosaic paved area, are thirsty, and hot...stop by and have a summery drink here! Service is lovely and if you are like me and need to sweeten your life even more get the moscatel. Warning-it's sweet!

Yelp
Nova Wine Bar with owner Pedro is A+++. Been to quite a few in Lisbon and this tops all. Great food and great wine! Full selection of wine all from Portugal, which allows for an in-depth taste into the culture. Fairly new place, but top of the notch! Must visit.

Yelp
Pedro is awesome. One of the nicest people you will ever meet. I had the best time trying as many Portuguese wines as I could. So many that I think I left without paying! Pedro, I still think about that sparkling we had. So good! If you see see this let me know the name of it please. Thank you for you hospitality and "the checks in the mail". -XO

Yelp
Awesome, competent, caring service. Delicious food. Reasonable prices. Wonderful wine and nice ambiance. A perfect find. And if it sounds like a fake review too good to be true - it's not, I just had a great meal, so I'm happy. Check this place out.

Yelp
We called in to have 1 glass of wine before heading out for dinner. We decided to share a tapas of sardines with our wine & it was so delicious that we changed our plans and stayed. The service is amazing, Pedro is warm & wonderfully knowledgeable. We ended up eating & drinking our way through the menu. Everything was delicious! We loved it so much we returned the next afternoon to try a few more dishes. This place is an absolute gem and I'm so glad we found it. Go there you won't be sorry.

Yelp
Great spot for diverse selection of Portuguese wines. Good food pairings are on the money too. We had the goat cheese and the pig knees. Whites are easy, fun. Reds are big and bold, take your time with them. Reserve bottles are so worth the take away prices! We took the reserve white which felt like a meaty white that can pair with American barbecue. And if I were you I'd come back if your time in the city allows. Management is friendly, fun, and wants you to live the wine experience. Drink it up!
