NRMA Cairns Holiday Park

We paid $62 per night for a drive through powered motorhome for 2 adults & 2 kids. Of the 6 caravan parks we stayed at during our 9 day trip, this was the most expensive, but the worst caravan park we stayed at (although this is not necessarily the fault of the park). The location close to the centre of Cairns is convenient. The amenities are ok, and mostly clean. Our motorhome extension cord was not long enough to reach our power point, while still allowing us to get out of the van without hitting a bush, so it was great that we were able to borrow an extension cord from reception for the duration of our stay. Bats nest in trees all over the park, but most of them are in a tree right above the camp kitchen. The stench is very strong. This is of course not the fault of the park, and the bats are actually awesome, and all over Cairns so it's to be expected, but is just something for guests to be aware of. I couldn't quite convince myself that it was the smell of the bats, not my food, when trying to eat haha. The pool didn't seem to be clean, and made my kids' eyes very sore, so they weren't in for long & I didn't let them go back. It was also disconcerting to receive a text message from the park at 8:30pm about a large theft problem, reminding people to lock everything away. This would have been better to be told at check in. This is a tricky one to rate, as it wasn't a bad stay, but wasn't overly enjoyable either.

My bf and I spent almost a month here during our backpacking trip and we really liked it. Kitchen area is nice and bathrooms are always clean. Staff was also always very kind with us and willing to help. If we come back to Cairns, we will definitely come back!

Located pretty nicely in the city, short drive to beach and the CBD. Kitchen is nice enough, Showers leave a little to desire but are okay. Pool is good. They have like a TV room for kids i think. Have washing machines coin operated. My big issue with the place is the Bats very very noisy in the morning, but that's not really the parks fault. Bats will bat.

This park is a conundrum to rate. It has the potential to be a beautiful park with the large trees, clean amenities and pleasant but simple pool area. It is quite central, a 10 min drive to most shopping and the foreshore. However the sites have been basically left unmaintained and some work is definitely needed - straggly long grass edged the slab and the rest of the site was weeds. And then there are the thefts - we had our bike locked but this was cut and stolen. And our neighbours also would have had theirs stolen too only they disturbed the thieves. We were told after that this is a problem for this park. They do have a security man that goes thru the park but from what we witnessed this is a waste of time as a car driving around is no deterrent. The park did send a generic text message to say lock things up ( which we did) but it would have been more effective if the check in person had mentioned the issue on arrival and we would have left our bikes on our van. Having said all this we never experienced any other issues and the park was really quiet.

Would've given better rating if the management would take better care of the amenities and the birds covering the motorhome in poops. Not so economical camp grounds when you've got to pay $150 to get the RV washed! Great service at the desk and great coffee.

Must say I was very impressed with the staff at this location. Knowing full well that crime is an issue this is the only park where I have seen proactive measures put in place to avoid your property being stolen. Boom gates. Nightly security patrols and on check in you are given plenty of information on how to keep your items safe. SO if you had property stolen from here you probably deserve it! Facilities are excellent likewise location. Only downside the caravan sites are quite small making arrival and departure squishy. Would def stay here again.

The campsite is nice despite the strong smell of garbage at the entrance where our pitch is located. However, be very careful, I no longer feel safe at all, I had $800 worth of equipment stolen in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. Security that runs by car but is totally ineffective, no cameras and of course no responsibility from the campsite. I would not recommend it to anyone, for so little security and despite the rarely cleaned toilets and showers, I prefer to go to a freecamp, at least I will know what to expect and I will not pay $45 for a night where I am not at ease.

This campsite is in a good location for cairns city, only a short drive. However the unpowered camp spots are extremely tight, we felt we had no room to put our awning up or to have any privacy at our car. The amenities were okay, lots of them and decently clean. The safety of this camp felt unnerving, due to reading past reviews however we had no trouble. The kitchen was extremely unclean. I felt this was very overpriced for the small camp site allocated. The lady at reception was lovely & check in was smooth.
