"One of the top experiences to have on land in the Marquesas is to go exploring on horseback. Whether you are cantering along the beach or climbing up a steep dirt track that descends into a lush valley, taking in the unique beauty of Nuku Hiva from atop a horse allows you to get away from the island's paved roads. A morning or afternoon equine excursion will give you a good sense of the dramatic landscape of this beautiful island paradise, much of it surprisingly untouched."

DescriptionNuku Hiva is the largest of the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia, an overseas country of France in the Pacific Ocean. It was formerly also known as Île Marchand and Madison Island. Herman Melville wrote his book Typee based on his experiences in the Taipivai valley in the eastern part of Nuku Hiva. Beautiful, virgin, unique island! 🙂

Somewhere in Pacific Ocean, on the way to Tahiti, we found this beautiful island. Plenty yachts anchored near the coast in the first SouthEast gulf. Virgin island, Polynesian friendly people, plenty fishermen. A lot of sharks are playing with the canoes. These sharks do not attack to people, but you never know......

Great little scenic island that few get opportunity to visit. Very friendly locals. Love the narrow steep mountain roads.
