Number 38 Clifton (Bristol, UK) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Number 38 Clifton is an urban hotel, but it’s far from gritty — this 1820 Georgian merchant’s house faces the open space of Clifton Downs, with the city of Bristol at its back. The atmosphere is more guest house than boutique hotel, and with just eleven rooms it feels suitably intimate. The interiors are a masterful blend of period character, vintage chic, and contemporary cool; modern artworks and up-to-date high-tech comforts abound, as do low-tech charms like Hypnos beds and, in the loft suites, copper tubs. There’s no restaurant per se, but there is a substantial breakfast, as well as an often sunny terrace that looks back over the rooftops of the city." - Tablet Hotels

Treated with such kindness by the friendly staff on my stay Sunday. The suite was immaculate with much attention to detail. The roll top bath was lovely. Had a take away from BOSCO which tasted as good as in the restaurant (I had eaten there before). The vegetarian breakfast was delicious and finished the morning with a cuppa on the terrace in the sunshine. If you are looking for a boutique hotel that is different from the norm, this is the place. This is the second time I’ve stayed there and would highly recommend it and go again. Da iawn.

What a lovely little place. Gorgeous views front and back, well laid out public areas, quiet location (a mile from the city centre). The room we stayed in was well furnished, nicely decorated and had a large and well designed bathroom. The bed wasn't the most comfortable I've ever slept in but it was more than adequate. Nicely stocked mini bar - with fresh milk for tea or coffee! Staff were friendly and professional. I'm already looking forward to returning.

We enjoyed our three night stay.||We received a friendly welcome, and we liked our room at the back which looked over the rooftops of the city, rather than onto the busy road at the front. It was a little smaller than we were expecting, judging from the diagrams on the website, but it was perfectly adequate for a short stay even with limited storage space.||Breakfasts were good, although in the two cooked dishes we had there were missing ingredients as listed on the menus. If I’m honest, I missed a continental buffet- I usually enjoy a small spoonful of yoghurt with a sprinkle of granola, some fruits and a pastry before moving on to a small cooked breakfast. Here the choice was either/or. Consequently, each was far too big and more than I could manage.||We enjoyed a drink before dinner in one of the rooms downstairs one evening, but it lacked a bit of atmosphere with nobody else around.||Overall, it was a good place to stay, nice and quiet, out of the hustle and bustle, within walking distance of Clifton, Whiteladies Road and the restaurants we’d booked in advance- Littlefrench and the Lido.||One of the young staff was particularly understanding when, owing to an unpleasant migraine, I had to return early from being in town. Thank you.

This is a beautiful inn. Our room at the back overlooked the colorful townhouses of Clifton and a stunning panorama of the city, including the university. The room was comfortable and pleasant, with a large up-to-date bathroom and nice toiletries. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff recommended some very good restaurants within walking distance for dinner. And they went the extra mile; I had wrenched my hip muscles running for a train and they delivered ice bags from their food freezer to our room, which helped a lot.

Just superb. Our third stay and despite it being difficult to park on the road outside it is well worth the cursings to find a space. Beautifully presented and tastefully decorated it ticks all the boxes for a small City Hotel. The lovely receptionist Jess greeted us warmly and it after a long journey it was much appreciated. Our third visit over the years and it still feels extra special. |The little touches like the Roberts radio playing classics in the room and the simple furniture in the bedrooms is just so relaxing. The breakfast divine. |We will return!

This hotel is an absolute gem, the service attentive and friendly, the rooms beautiful, the breakfasts are perfectly cooked and presented. There is a quiet drinks terrace with magnificent panoramic views across Bristol. You are given a parking token to park on the Downs so you're never far from your car, not that you'll need it as there's many restaurants and cafes all the way down Whiteladies to Redland and Cotham with busses into the City every few minutes. The labyrinthine delights of Clifton Village is also easily walkable. The rooms are thoughtfully furnished with some lovely attention to detail such as a daily jug of fresh milk in the fridge. The massive copper bath is an experience in itself, the bath towels and bathrobes are pristine and fluffy. Just heaven, thank you so much!

This hotel was the last hotel of our stay in the UK and I’m so glad. It was impressive. From the moment we entered and took in the beautiful furnishings, fragrance, and warm welcome, we were happy. As we’d arrived early, we were offered bag storage and then transfer to the room when it was ready, as well as a permit to park on the street. We’d been upgraded to Room 2 on the top floor (should have accepted their offer to deliver the bags! No lift, steep stairs and heavy bags. Our problem!). The room was amazing - very big, with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Immediate ‘ahhh’ feeling. The furnishings were so lovely. The view was exceptional. The bath was truly wonderful. The shower pressure was great. The complimentary macaroons were very tasty. Breakfast was freshly cooked and restaurant quality. Flavour was all there! There was a fan above the bed (thank you) and we had a lovely breeze with both windows open. It was so quiet at night! Honestly, this place is amazing. The location is also wonderful - walking distance to the suspension bridge and a short wander to a number of pubs and eateries.

A lovely well-kept house at the top of Whiteladies Road, within easy reach of bus links into the city and surrounded by numerous eateries. We had room 10 which was two floors down, with a view over the back towards the city. The room was small but comfortable and there was a cute shower room. Overlooking the back meant that it was very quiet; the front overlooks a busy road. Breakfast was tasty, but we would have welcomed the option to have some fruit or yoghurt before the cooked element without having to pay £5 extra each for a “continental” element. It seemed mean because this is not a cheap place to stay. Parking can be problematic, but we arranged a permit in advance with the venue and were fortunate to find a spot right outside when we arrived.
