"I stayed in a boutique townhouse tucked at the top end of Bruton’s High Street that feels like a Boho shack for the culturally inquisitive — Georgian bones meet a medieval forge and coaching inn, all decked out in whirling colours, retro sixties/seventies lounges and carefully curated knick-knacks. From loungers, wallpaper and doilies to art prints of Joan Collins, Naomi Campbell and Jerry Hall (some by Perry Ogden), mosaic work by Candace Bahouth and fabric key fobs from Bill Amberg, everything feels well thought out and deeply considered. The townhouse opened during the Covid pandemic and now has 12 intimate rooms; if you want timber drama, choose one of the Forge rooms across the courtyard with splintered old beams, large cushy beds, diamond bric-a-brac windows, roll-top baths, walk-in showers in a riot of colour and tempting West Country cheese and crackers. It’s pleasantly set away from the main road so it’s quieter, and apart from a few scuffs on the walls and slightly overpriced amenities, my stay was near perfect. I absolutely loved this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the welcome was flawless, warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. You immediately feel at home. The décor is so cosy, so British, full of charm, tasteful, and beautifully done without feeling pretentious. Everything is just right. The bed is extremely comfortable, hard to leave in the morning. In the room, there were delicious complimentary treats: quality cheddar and perfect shortbread, a lovely touch. The bathroom is immaculate, with thick, fluffy towels that make all the difference. Breakfast is a real highlight: delicious, generous, and made with excellent local products. Honestly, everything is perfect. A place I would happily return to without hesitation

Our second visit here and it is the perfect hotel. Full of style, great art and an eye from a hotelier who wants you to have a special time.|We’re heading to a party and wanted to visit the Newt Gardens - staying here got us on the members only visitor list , a real bonus.|No.1 has the feeling of French auberge- we sat in their sunny courtyard with a glass of wine before walking a few feet into the excellent restaurant on site Briar- run by an ex-Riverford chef and full of atmosphere, Friday night buzz and delicious sharing platters .|Our room was one of the smaller as only an overnight stay but full of luxury and treats - homemade shortbread and local Somerset cider in fridge with a selection of cheese and oat cakes as a generous extra.|It’s right on the high st so easy to roam along the line up of interesting shops and galleries . Love this place as it feels such a treat and v sensibly priced . Highly recommend unlike the rather soulless Newt!

Lovely hotel! Stylish interior design, and great service. They made an entire vegan menu for us and the food was delicious. They will accommodate a vegan diet for breakfast (avocado toast, overnight oats and vegan cheese) if you inform them in advance.

Our first night away from our daughter was an absolute joy. We loved the design of our room, the treats provided and found the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was utterly delicious and the selection was fantastic. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we would definitely book to stay here again.

This was our first trip to Bruton and we could not have picked a better hotel. It is quite small but that makes it more romantic, their restaurant next door Briar is exceptional, the hotel is perfectly located and they also own the Blue Ball Pub next door which is so charming and perfect for a pre-drink in an old fashioned style public house. Wonderful stay and would really recommend, if you do make sure you book to eat at Briar.

Beautiful place & excellent service - had a wonderful stay here. Rooms are so nicely decorated and have loads of thoughtful touches. We were in Forge 2. Staff were so helpful and friendly in advance of our booking and whilst there. Faultless experience. Highly recommend!

Our weekend here was everything you would want from a staycation. The food was some some of the best we’ve ever had, the staff were lovely, the cottage was so comfy and the whole vibe was cosy and welcoming. We really want to come back and have recommended it to friends and family.

What a gem! This place is such a great find, the staff were warm and welcoming, the room had a lovely welcome pack, comfy beds and great shower - all you could need. The breakfast was delicious and a perfect way to start the day. We ate in The Briar restaurant and it was exceptional!! Some really tasty sharing plates and delicious wine! Can’t recommend this place more highly. We will most certainly be back! Thank you!
