"The concept of a New Moroccan cuisine has only been taken seriously in the motherland over the last couple of years, and only very recently in Fes. Chef Najat Kaanache, whose résumé includes stints at trendsetting restaurants El Bulli and Noma, opened Nur in September 2016. Designed by Stephen di Renza (creative director at the Jardin Majorelle boutique in Marrakech ), the space has a monochromatic vibe that's offset bystunningly beautiful plates of food that include innovations like duck confit on herb "meringue," cured shark on Moroccan corn bread, and grass-fed beef adobo and potato hearts. This is a bright new chapter in Fes’s culinary evolution."

This was a SCAM!! Do not fall for it. The food was terrible. It is as if the owners studied what a fine dining experience is as a concept and mocked those of us who like that experience and then charged 150 Euros per person to top that. DO NOT be fooled by the marketing and website. I love fine dining, travel for food, look for people experimenting with local ingredients, creativity, and spaces and was super excited to try a Moroccan woman’s proposal from within the medina. I am incredibly angry at what I received. The servers know nothing about the food, the place looks cheap, and the phone number listen on the website does not work, only the email and cellphone, which should have been an indication from the start. Still, what I am angriest about is that I had a disgusting and stupidly expensive meal at the place I was excited about visiting and as a tourist, they now pushed me to be suspicious of all creative and small new endeavors in the country, when every other meal I’ve had in Morocco has been delicious, from the markets to the riads.

Wow that was a weird experience and so bad! No heating first of all. Probably 12c in the restaurant. The food looked good and was pretty good. But the service was lacking and then this guy, who the two waitress were clearly scared of, was a strange guy…he came to ask if we wanted wine. They only have rd or rose and we chose red. No wine list. No mention of any winery name. But our experience so far in Morocco has been so good we trusted him. The wine was just ok. But the real treat was the bill. There was no indication of price anywhere…but we are in Morocco and trusted the price to be reasonable…he asked for 1,900 for the meal for 2 and 700 for the wine and 200 for tax…total .800…and could only take cash…we ended up paying 2,100 just to be able to leave without a physical altercation…A RIP OFF. We eat in the best restaurants n the world everywhere we go. Never been ripped off like this. And this place was recommend in a Conde Nast article. DO NOT GO.

Wild "fine" dining experience - The Bear in real life. Do not recommend. The food was decent. Nice presentation, ok taste, but we had no idea what we were eating. The server would just say the protein and that's it, no further explanation. I imagine with a better description we would've appreciated it more, but like this it was impossible. The atmosphere was a complete disaster. There was one bluetooth speaker in the dining hall playing classical music while the kitchen was blasting reggaeton at full volume. At one point the only other table in the restaurant left mid-dinner, and the noise turned into screams coming from the kitchen (see video). We overpaid for a "fine dining experience" that felt like a complete joke. I paid extra for a wine pairing (3 glasses) and when we arrived they had no idea what we were talking about, so they offered us one of the two bottles they had available. I also paid extra for pick-up and drop-off to our hotel - that never happened either.

This was one of the best tasting menus I’ve had the pleasures of experiencing. The dishes had a subtle thematic continuity, highlighting amazing fresh ingredients without being redundant. I especially enjoyed the incredible fresh herbs and seafood. Bright, vibrant and savory all at the same time. I also found it to be quite filling for a tasting menu. It makes me so sad to read some of these terrible reviews, as I’m sure they turn many people away from a chance to enjoy both incredible food & hospitality. Our server Muhammad was the best!

As someone who travels specifically for food and often dines in fine-dining restaurants around the world, my experience at Nur was unfortunately one of the most disappointing I’ve had. First, the experience described on the website simply doesn’t match reality. The site promises a 2.5-hour tasting menu, yet our entire meal was served in under an hour. None of the dishes resembled the photos online, and the food itself felt like a hodgepodge of the same few ingredients with no clear connection, progression, or narrative. Presentation was minimal and not at the level one would expect given the price point or the chef’s stated experience. Service also fell short. Our first server placed dishes silently and walked away as if embarrassed; while I understand she may not speak English or French, it’s hard to justify putting her in this role when the restaurant caters almost exclusively to visitors. Only after we insisted did another server step in to explain the dishes. We were also served completely flat sparkling water, which should be a simple quality check. To top it off, my wife requested mint tea—a staple in Morocco—which took longer than any dish to prepare and ultimately never arrived; instead, we were given a saffron tea she did not order. All of this might have been forgivable if the food were exceptional. But throughout the entire night, we kept waiting for a single redeeming dish, and sadly none delivered. Given the price—higher than many Michelin-starred restaurants in Manhattan—I left feeling completely scammed. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was far from what is advertised and does not justify the cost.

Google
truly terrible experience. Prices are not displayed, and the final bill was handwritten on a scrap of paper, with bottles added without explanation. The total was outrageously expensive for Fes and felt completely unjustified. There was no heating at all — the restaurant was freezing, and we had to eat dinner wearing our coats. The service was extremely poor, with constant mistakes, forgotten orders, and complete disregard for dietary restrictions. The toilet flush was broken. We were forced to pay a €75 down payment, and they claimed it had already been deducted from the final bill, without any proof. Only after insisting that they check again did they admit it had not been deducted at all. We were also forced to pay in cash, without being warned in advance that they do not accept credit cards. On top of that, we were given no choice of wine: a single bottle was imposed on us and charged €90, while the same wine costs €4.95 elsewhere. The food was acceptable, but absolutely not worth the price, the cold, the chaos, or the blatant dishonesty. Avoid.

Genuinely one of the strangest experience I’ve had in my life. In line with other reviews, the restaurant was freezing cold (and the table cloth was wet), there was strange music blaring from the kitchen, and the atmosphere was beyond weird. What we were surprised by, however, was the abysmal quality of the food. The bread that we received as a first course was simultaneously burnt and wet. The second course consisted of a soggy cracker with cream cheese on it and ketchup on the side. By the third course we had given up out of genuine concern that we’d get sick. People sitting at the other two tables came over to talk to us to enquire if we found this meal as weird as they did, and we all walked out together, leaving the restaurant empty. The only question we had upon leaving: is this a scam? Is it just incredibly weird? I guess we’ll never know.

Started out super…. We received an email 24 hours prior to our reservation that we needed to complete another deposit for our reservation. This was confusing and after multiple calls to multiple numbers our Medina guide for the day offered to come with us to the location to see if it was open. We were able to confirm with the owner/chef that we did have the reservation and would be well taken care of and would even have a guide sent to our riad to pick us up. We were only about 15 minutes away, but the restaurant is very difficult to find. We left feeling good about the reservation. When the appointed time for the guide to arrive came and went, we decided to brave the Medina maze and trust Google Maps to get us to the restaurant before our reservation came and went. We made it without incident to Nur which was a huge boost to our confidence and we’re excited for what was to come. To say we were underwhelmed would be putting it lightly. The food at our riad La Maison Bleu was leagues better in quality, taste, presentation, care, service, atmosphere for a fraction of the price. To explain what was not great about the food is evident in the many other reviews on the place. The presentation was good but the food was bad. Over salted, questionable meat dishes, inconsistent theme. At one point there was no music in the dining room with loud music and noise from the kitchen. To top it off the toilet was clogged, our waitress was sick with a very bad runny nose and when we asked about the $100 deposit when the bill came nobody knew anything about it. We left the Nur confused, upset, hungry, and wiser. We should have done more research. It should have been obvious… we literally saw another family arguing about the bill and that night saw what must have been their review pop up on Google.
