"The concept of a New Moroccan cuisine has only been taken seriously in the motherland over the last couple of years, and only very recently in Fes. Chef Najat Kaanache, whose résumé includes stints at trendsetting restaurants El Bulli and Noma, opened Nur in September 2016. Designed by Stephen di Renza (creative director at the Jardin Majorelle boutique in Marrakech ), the space has a monochromatic vibe that's offset bystunningly beautiful plates of food that include innovations like duck confit on herb "meringue," cured shark on Moroccan corn bread, and grass-fed beef adobo and potato hearts. This is a bright new chapter in Fes’s culinary evolution."

Wild "fine" dining experience - The Bear in real life. Do not recommend. The food was decent. Nice presentation, ok taste, but we had no idea what we were eating. The server would just say the protein and that's it, no further explanation. I imagine with a better description we would've appreciated it more, but like this it was impossible. The atmosphere was a complete disaster. There was one bluetooth speaker in the dining hall playing classical music while the kitchen was blasting reggaeton at full volume. At one point the only other table in the restaurant left mid-dinner, and the noise turned into screams coming from the kitchen (see video). We overpaid for a "fine dining experience" that felt like a complete joke. I paid extra for a wine pairing (3 glasses) and when we arrived they had no idea what we were talking about, so they offered us one of the two bottles they had available. I also paid extra for pick-up and drop-off to our hotel - that never happened either.

This was one of the best tasting menus I’ve had the pleasures of experiencing. The dishes had a subtle thematic continuity, highlighting amazing fresh ingredients without being redundant. I especially enjoyed the incredible fresh herbs and seafood. Bright, vibrant and savory all at the same time. I also found it to be quite filling for a tasting menu. It makes me so sad to read some of these terrible reviews, as I’m sure they turn many people away from a chance to enjoy both incredible food & hospitality. Our server Muhammad was the best!

Alex from Australia here. Felt the need to write a clear review for everyone like us who got a bit scared by the review-war that seems to be happening here. In short: we had a great time. And there is absolutely nothing about this place / experience that is a scam (what a silly thing to write in a review for a very legit restaurant). The food is modern, creative, and beautifully presented (although the mood lighting in the restaurant means it’s easy to take a dull / bad photo of the food, as some reviewers have). The cuisine is not tagines and couscous - it is a genuine locally-sourced, modern degustation from an internationally trained Basque-Moroccan chef. The food is creative and not every dish will appeal to everyone’s taste - which is the case with every degustation at every restaurant that is looking to try new, creative things. Overall my wife and I loved the food - especially the tender beef with fig and fermented orange. We ate seven (7!) courses plus delicious warm bread with cheese to start, so we left extremely full and very satisfied. The dining room is a beautiful central riad courtyard filled with art collected by the owner and head chef Najat Kaanache. If you like the art, your will love the decor. If you don’t, you will still appreciate the beauty of a personal art collection accompanying your meal. There is a large water feature along one wall, and the music and ambiance was nice. We also had the wine pairing which was generously proportioned and with some excellent Moroccan wines. Overall a really good experience. And if you get a chance have a chat to the very interesting owner and head chef!

We booked this dinner reservation in hopes of a delicious meal - sold by the website photos and reviews. Unfortunately it did not deliver. The restaurant was not difficult to find and was quiet the evening we ate. At first, seemed a bit disorganized, we entered and though we made a reservation and pre-paid, doesn’t seem like the hostess/server had any notes of our arrival, our table was set for us after sitting down with a stained table linens. The meal, was a multi course meal, about 6 smaller bites over 3 hours. Most of the courses were edible but not enjoyable and took very long (as many of the reviews suggest). Little cohesion within each dish and very little cohesion amongst the set menu. Courses lacked both in flavor and technique, and plating was an interesting take (on heavy tiles). Wine pairing was ok - did not pair well and seemed more of an afterthought. The service was in the middle, one hostess/waitress who was very kind and warm. Not her fault the food was not good and had to take the heat from other guests. For the price, ~$140 USD per person for the meal and wine - was grossly disappointing. This amount for food in Morocco is VERY expensive. I wish this restaurant all the best - maybe this was an off night, since the other reviews really swing. I would not recommend as it seems inconsistent and not worth it for the unknown.

If you dine at just one restaurant in Fes, make it Nur. This culinary experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish was a celebration of flavor and artistry—absolutely delicious from start to finish. Mohammed provided impeccable service with warmth and attentiveness, while Chef Najat is truly a visionary—her kindness and brilliance shine through in every course. Nur isn’t just a meal, it’s a memory.

Food is fine but the experience is chaotic. The chef fancies herself a modern Frida Kahlo so maybe this is all part of her schtick. Loud kitchen noises, barely trained servers, no wine list, but a personal greeting from the chef maybe part of your evening. I was also asked to pay for wine the next day I walked past on the street even though I asked before I left if I owed anything and the chef made it sound like the wine is included when she brought it out.

The high reviews must be robots. Worst restaurant experience ever. Food barely edible. I paid for a wine tasting and nothing matched. $300 Canadian went to waste. I didn’t eat, beside something that looked like a fake falafel.. We left after a long wait of the second course. No menus. Zero organization or respect to our reservation/timing. Basic fast food is way better than this place. One of the female servers was very nice that’s why we stayed till the second course but beyond that, tourist scam.

Fantastic meal, incredible value, very inventive and interesting combinations of flavors and ingredients, each with a bit of Moroccan flair. The wine pairings were excellent. And, the service was extraordinary! The few 1 star reviews of this restaurant are absolutely ludicrous. This is a fabulous restaurant and these two foodies highly recommend it to any people traveling through Fes looking for something a bit elevated and unique from the typical fare.
