Visiting Kuta Beach: Why This is The WORST Place in Bali!

"If you’re looking for the blue tropical water that Kuta lacks, I would head to Nusa Lembongan as a cleaner, more scenic alternative for swimming and beaches." - Matthew Kepnes

Great place to visit. Staying at 3 monkeys on the island. Great little hotel and bar with good food. Lots to do and explore here. Great surfing, snorkelling and diving. If you are in Bali it is worth the 45 minute ferry to come here and explore real paradise .

Love this inland. Great for adventure on scooter's. You find hidden little gems around it to grab a beer and a snack or meal to soothe your appetite.

Rat Island,, lovely to visit the beaches, excellent snorkeling etc.. but don’t go inland and definitely don’t stay in the rat infested bungalows or eat from rat infested kittens. The smell of urine is everywhere, masses on masses of piled up rubbish fills this place. Stick to Arthamas Fastboat and do everything from the beach or sea

What a beautiful island. Absolutely must do

Lovely little island to relax and explore. Seems to attract more of a western crowd. Great diving and good food. Easy to move around on motorbikes and there are very few cars here. You need to take a ferry to get here from Sanur port.

Nusa Lembongan is a one-of-a-kind island experience. It is worth visiting Nusa Lembongan to explore not only one but two stunning islands! The neighbouring Nusa Ceningan is accessible via a charming yellow bridge, which is a popular Instagrammable location in Bali. The most common way for people to get between Nusa Lembongan and Bali is by fast boat. The distance is about 15 kilometres between Bali and Nusa Lembongan across a passage of water known as the Badung Strait. The fast boats typically take 30-40 minutes to do the crossing, depending on the prevailing conditions. COMMON QUESTION - how long should I spend on Nusa Lembongan? Once on the island, most people would spend 3 or 4 nights on Nusa Lembongan for their first trip, though we typically find on return trips guests spend 5-7 nights on the island or even skip Bali entirely and spend their whole holiday on Nusa Lembongan! Nusa Penida demands a bit more commitment as it involves a longer boat ride, approximately 45 minutes, from Bali. On the other hand, Lembongan, being closer, offers a shorter journey of around 30 minutes from Bali – making it ideal for those planning a quick day-trip from the mainland. The reality is that Nusa Lembongan is more expensive than Bali. Everything on the island arrives via the local ferry and is hand carried off at the beach. Expect prices to be higher than in Bali and locals less willing to bargain.

Used to be nice island back in 2015. However, due to the increasing number of tourists. The island is no longer nice and full of rubbish. Rubbish are dumped and burned daily at the other end of the island where tourists do not see this. Go to mangrove side of the island and you will see the pile of rubbish. Hope the authority and tourists can keep this beautiful island clean.

I visited Nusa lembongan 10 years ago. It was super nice. A real paradise.. Now in 2025 I do not recognize any beauty. The built EVERYWHERE and RUBBISH is a HUGE problem. But the worst is the smoke. All day there are several fire all over the island. After sunset it is impossible to stay outside. The toxic smoke of the plastic they burn every day is unbearable. There is a big dump on the interior where they burn all the rubbish. I tried to do yoga …and impossible. Even having the food outside was a challenging sometime. My eyes and throat were sore and the smell was unbearable. With no wind it is a impossible to stay outside. They need to do something about the trash! Same as Bali it is not worth anymore to do thousand of km to see this! Indonesian wake up!
