The suite was beautiful, spacious and clean. Exactly as shown in their pictures. Love the fact that they have a full equipped kitchen, allowing you to make some homemade food. The bed was soft, but comfortable and the pillows were great. This place has received a lot of love from the owners and it shows in the small details. The staff was friendly, helpful and very flexible!! Great location in downtown, with free parking everywhere on the street at night. They also have a private parking for only $10. Overall, it is a great place to call home when away from home. It is better than your standard hotel room in my opinion. Highly recommended and will return for my next stay in Calgary. Thank you for the stay!

Spacious room with fully equipped kitchen. Location is convenient. Supermarket, Starbucks just around the corner. Staff are friendly and accommodating. We were given a basement room. Later managed to change to a upper floor room. Wondering if room is available, why not assign a better room for those customers who stay long enough to deserve a better arrangement? Daily cleaning has much room to improve. We stayed there 10 days. Some days the bed was not made, some days the floor was dirty, no vacuum cleaned. And they didn’t clean the bathroom at all in our 10-day stay, only changed towels.

Very nicely appointed rooms. We really enjoyed the full kitchen, large living space and dog friendly room. Nice family operates the hotel. Only downside was that a number of the other guests were quite noisy, even after midnight.

The best experience I've ever had. I was literally impressed how they designed a full kitchen room which is modern and luxurious. Staff was friendly, helpful and they were trained properly with respectful manners. That made of my day. Hotel was located right across from Safeway which was very convenient location for me to get what I needed to cook in my room. Everything was good except for an absent of elevator. It was not a big deal, but so much better having one.

The rooms are absolutely stunning! My boyfriend and I stayed here last night for the first time, and it was absolutely amazing the room was not only equipped with cooking materials and decorated beautiful but the staff was kind, generous, and went above and beyond for us!!! Our evening was so good we extended by a night. We will definitely be back and truly enjoyed our stay. We’ve checked out many hotels and this is by far the most comfortable the most clean and overall wonderful!! Thanks Nuvo

Overall stay was generally okay. The rooms were moderately clean, the main island in the room was stained and all counter surfaces had to be wiped down. For a room that accommodated 4 people we only received two towels for our stay and had to ask for more. The breakfast is very basic and carb heavy no real protein option. I would recommend others to read the reviews of the hotel recently as the majority are accurate in regards to room cleanliness. Check in took about an hour for 4 rooms but the staff were helpful and accommodating. Overall, not a bad stay but you need to know what to expect.

Slightly strange setup, until I realised I was walking into a converted apartment block. The staff were very friendly. The room was a good size for a few nights stay. The bathroom was a little small and the rooms on the ground floor are semi underground, so a little dark. But as I said it is a good location, good price and decent for a few nights in Calgary. The kitchen units in my suite needed a good clean on top.

I made a booking to arrive late from the airport. I got to my room, cleaned up, and then noticed giant long black hairs on the pillows of my bed. I got a light on and noticed many more black hairs all over the other pillows and sheets. I contacted the front desk. They came down to ‘inspect’ the bed. And then said we could go to another room. Upon arrival to this other room, I went directly to the bed and noticed a pile of crumbs behind the first pillow. So, we moved to a third room. This room was still not perfect but it was 2am and I was exhausted so I just stayed. The next morning I was apologized to, and told that management was on vacation and I would be contacted. I was never contacted, I had to send an email to inquire about a refund or any compensation. The only reply I received was that they were sorry and it would ‘never happen again’. Their customer service is inadequate, matching their cleanliness. The only redeeming thing was the late night check in girl who was lovely and tried her best to be accommodating. (Add on: I was moved to other rooms that were identical to my first room. I also had to help inspect them for cleanliness...not something I like to pay to do in a hotel)

Yelp
This place is really weird. Seems like it is a converted apartment building. Would probably be fine if i was staying for an extended stay. Kitchenette in the room. Most of the place was newly finished but some of the furniture was crap, i feel like they might have found some of it on Craigslist from a creepy guy with too many cats.

Yelp
It's awful. Hair in the bed, stains and NOT stains(actual crud) on the kitchen counter. Door frame was cracked and the lock that was attached to said door frame came off. Dust... LAYERS of dust on the cabinets, so gross. It smelled... um.. musty? It made me feel dirty just standing in it. But taking a shower in that bathroom would not have made me feel better. The halls and stairways are narrow and dirty. And smelled. The house rules are ridiculous. The parking situation was awful. If you do not drive a small vehicle, you won't fit in their stalls. Did not feel safe. Management was not helpful. 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Yelp
The Nuvo Hotel & Suites is not your typical hotel experience. And I mean that in every positive way possible. The hotel is located right in downtown Calgary, within walking distance from all the amenities we needed (truth be told, that included the shopping market and a liquor store, but I'm sure your mileage will vary). It earns its designation as a Boutique Hotel from its unique design. The hotel was originally an apartment (condo?) building and converted to nightly suites. What does this mean? It means that each suite is laid out as NOT-hotel-eque as you can get; specifically: they have a full (and pots, pans, dishes & cutlery stocked-) kitchen, in-suite laundry washer/dryer, dishwasher and beautiful open design. I could go on and on about how amazing the room looked (and how wonderful the in-floor heating felt), but I just cannot get over the in-suite kitchen. I had no idea how much of a difference that makes when staying somewhere; a huge chunk of the cost of travelling is having to eat out for every single meal. At the Nuvo, you have a Safeway right across the street and the freedom to cook whatever you want to eat right in your own room. The bed's were amazing, each room has its own little balcony (not much of a view...but nice enough to sit on and enjoy the sounds of downtown & fresh air) and we have spent a considerable amount of time hunting for whatever pillows they use there - they're that comfortable. All of this, and their prices are still affordable. They cost more than a typical Super 8, but it's worth it for the décor alone. We managed to get a good deal, and combined with taking advantage of the kitchen, what you save in eating out could easily put them at the same price as any generic hotel chain. The only trouble we had was checking in after hours - we were given the wrong door code. We managed to get a hold of someone who gave us the right code; and we were good to go from there. So if you are checking in after-hours, double check you have both the outer door code AND your room door code. That hiccup aside, the Nuvo is still the only hotel I'll stay at in Calgary.

Yelp
I showed up 30 minutes after check in started and still had to wait 30 minutes for my room to be ready. While checking in, a random guest cut me off and instead of telling the guest to wait, the receptionist left to tend to them without saying anything to me. Literally ID in hand trying to figure out what just happened. I start going up to my room and the hallways are dingy. I understand that I'm not staying in the hallway, but I expect a certain feeling when I'm paying $100+/night. I got to my room and it looked like the pictures, but it was falling apart. I never write reviews and I wasn't going to, but the final straw was me coming back to my room unlocked after I left for the day and put a do not disturb sign on my door. I assume it was house keeping but I was gone for well over 10 hours and who knows who else came in or if I had anything stolen. I read another review (after I booked) and the same thing happened to them. This place is horrible, not the upscale experience they claim to be providing. You could not pay me to stay in this place. You're better off renting an Airbnb somewhere else. For $100+/night you can get something nice in a high rise with a view of the city instead of the Safeway parking lot/a back alley.

Yelp
This is place is awesome. I was in Calgary for a business trip. I was impressed that hotel quality is higher than I thought. In addition, Nuvo is the best location in downtown. Do you wanna buy some groceries and cook? you just across the load for going to Safeway. Nuvo has a kitchen in every room and Kitchen stuff. Staffs were really kind. The parking lot is only one weakness. However, it is an outdoor parking lot and you can reach at the hotel back door in 1 min by walk. Nuvo staffs are Koreans. I guess Korean people are the hardest worker in the world. you can feel that feeling that how they try to treat guests well in Nuvo hotel. I have been to other places in Calgary. I highly recommend this hotel for your good travel.

Brikhna K.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin. First, this place doesn't look anything like the pictures. The washroom is tiny and with stains, bedsheets are dirty and had weird type of stains. The tv doesn't work and -20c you don't have any heat. We had to leave the place immediately after waiting for the disposal heater which never arrived. When I called the next day regarding the issues the guy told me that he would call back regarding this. No call backs until two days. I called them back and this guy said they cannot even give half refund cuz we didn't tell me that we were leaving. What on earth!? This place is not worth a penny. Trust me. Don't make a mistake I made. Rude customer service.

Maria K.

Yelp
Filthy room! Floor, walls and even stain on bed. When we spoke to owner we were treated like garbage! Left in the middle of the night it was that bad!

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Nuvo Hotel isn't all bad. They offer free Wi-Fi and free calls anywhere in North American. And the size of the room is really big, kind of like a studio apartment. Unfortunately, it feels like you're walking into an apartment building, a sketchy apartment building, when you get there. The office is only open from 9 - 9 which is inconvenient to say the least. There are constant shouting matches happening in the alley way out back. My bed was a Murphy bed that was quite squeaky. And I'm fairly certain there was an attempted break-in into another room during my stay. So, while the price and the people where nice I don't think I'd ever stay here again, nor would I recommend it to others.

Arc P.

Yelp
Though I've stayed at Nuvo twice now, I still find it difficult to review. First off let me say that I don't think Nuvo is a bad place, I just don't think it is worth anywhere near what they are charging. I kind of feel ripped off. They charge $149 for suites on the the first floor and an additional $10 for a suite with a balcony. The suites are a bachelor pad concept with bed, kitchen, bathroom and washer dryer. The bed and couch are comfy. There are air conditioning units inside the suites. One is usually a powerful one that is so ridiculously loud that it makes it difficult to hear the TV at a normal volume or even have a conversation in the room at a normal volume. The other is so weak it's not worth turning on. On both occasions I found it difficult to use the remote control for the TVs. I found the shower small and caddy in the shower was rusted on both occasions. That grossed me out a little. Also the floors have all sorts of scuff marks on them which also grossed me out. They also have this quirky rule that one cannot check in until 3 pm. That isn't very accommodating to the customer's schedule. Furthermore, the front desk has office hours from 9am - 10 pm which begs the question what if you need something during the night. That doesn't seem accommodating to the client. But I guess it is the age old adage for this place. Location, location, location. So if they price it slightly lower than what the chains price at they will always sell out. I do like the location. It's just outside the downtown core, near the Safeway and right next to the liquor barn which has reasonably priced alcohol. It also has wifi which is cool. I just don't think it's worth anywhere near what they are charging. Just an opinion. Oh and you may want to wear ear plugs, there tend to be a lot of police sirens that go off in the night.

Yelp
Free (mostly) reliable wi-fi, free north American calls, cable, Aveda amenities, modern kitchen, and well used space with lots of storage. The staff are friendly. All characteristics that I seek out in accommodations, but I am just not sold on the set up. It sort of felt like a domino effect: The front desk is only open from 9am to 9 pm which can make checking in a challenge. The front door is locked and accessible by a code, which didn't prevent an attempted break on one of the night's I was there. Perhaps my lack of sleep that night wouldn't have been that big of a deal if the A/C units were built in, or at least had an exit vent that didn't include leaving your balcony door open (open to a dodgy parking lot where the night before the b+e there were people having a screaming match over Starbucks). Then again, if the fan worked, I might not have needed the A/C. Or if the blinds actually kept light out (they're like the roll blinds you see in car windows)I would've fallen into a deep sleep hot or not. It may look posh, but at $150 a night, I think they can do a bit better than an insecure building and main doors to the rooms. I could see light from the holiday around the whole door frame, it only had one lock and it felt like little old me could have busted it down with a huff and a puff.

Yelp
This is my hotel of choice when I visit Calgary for shows. It is close enough to the city that it's an easy walk to pretty much any venue, and it is close to 17th Ave which is my favourite shopping district! The first time I stayed here was for my birthday (February 2012) and it was the perfect romantic getaway! The beds are like sleeping in a cloud; it was so hard to get out bed in morning. Having the full apartment was amazing, especially with Safeway across the street. There is also a liquor store right downstairs so pre drinks are beyond easy to acquire. The room was clean and done up in modern decor, other than the tacky cow pattern chair, but hey it's Calgary so you have to expect a little cow pattern here and there! The staff are super nice and they are never opposed to giving you a late check out (perfect because as I said, it is hard to get out of the heavenly beds!). It is totally worth paying the little bit extra for a room with a balcony, you will likely be looking at a brick wall but sun is sun! My boyfriend and I have stayed here 5 times now and when we move back to Canada and are visiting Calgary we will be staying here again!

Christopher G.

Yelp
This one of the cheaper alternatives in downtown Calgary, and if you're staying more than a few nights it's a pretty good option. The rooms are more like apartment suites, complete with a full kitchen (including dishwasher) and laundry. Much of the decor is modern and stylish, though there are a few finishing issues - paint chips and a somewhat unfinished feel here and there. The beds are also far too soft, but that's just a personal preference. The staff is friendly if not entirely professional, but I did appreciate the bowl of gourmet jelly beans in the reception office! This is about a 20 minute walk from downtown proper, and with some good pubs in the area and the Safeway right across the street there are plenty of eating options. A big name hotel might do better on comfort, but Nuvo has some style and a good price. Not a bad choice if you're in Calgary for work or a short vacation.

Sans H.

Yelp
Fully accommodated classy suites, good price, wonderfull staff. Complicated in suite washer/ dryer combo wasn't a problem at a, despited that I couln't figure out how to dry and left it to the last min and couldn't pack- they happily picked it up from my room and did it for me post check out while I honoured a nearby tattp appointment.

Yelp
Ive stayed here on two different trips to Calgary. Its the place to be. Jelly Bellys in the front office. Its located near several tasty breweries and bars. Lots of food, across from a grocery store. Its modern looking. Full kitchen in both rooms I stayed in. The price is good and the location is great. This place is located in downtown Calgary, meaning its in the middle of a bustling city. As has been noted you will hear noises in the street, people taking, cars going by. If these noises bother you, you should stay in the countryside and listen to the sound of sheep and trees blowing in the breeze. Both a situations are nice.

Heather M.

Yelp
I stayed here with a friend and I loved it. A cute boutique hotel in Calgary. There is a Safeway across the street which is super conveinent since the suites all have a kitchen. I love the feeling of being in a studio apartment instead of a hotel. It's more relaxing and super modern. When I first arrived I overheard the Front Desk lady (Deanna) talking with a guest about the parking. They didn't seem impressed with the parking situation; however, you're in downtown Calgary, what do you expect? At least the hotel provides parking for you! I thought Deanna handled the customer very well and she was super professional. Later in the evening I requested for more towels and soap for my room. I also made a comment about how I loved how the hotel had jellybeans in the lobby area. Deanna then arrived at my door shortly after with the towels, soap and a cup of jellybeans. That small touch was above and beyond what I would expect from anyone, and I was blown away by her hospitality. I highly recommend this hotel. Not only are the rooms extremely nice, but the service is amazing.

Aurelie E.

Yelp
We are currently staying here and we are definitely not having a good time. We loved the idea of this hotel, but the hygiene standards are non-existing. Stains on the bed, dirt in the cabinets, crumbs on the countertops, greasestains, hair basically everywhere... We, so far, have not been able to speak to anyone about this. We sincerely hope we can change this, solve the situation and leave a better review.

Justine H.

Yelp
We loved our stay at Nuvo Hotel! Great location, rooms were very clean and the breakfast options were wonderful! We loved it so much we went back a week later. The staff were great as well.

Gretchen A.

Yelp
When I booked I chose this place because the location, the kitchen, and that the price was reasonable. That is enough to make me consider staying here again if I come back to Calgary. Unfortunately, they put me in the worst possible room it seemed, on the ground floor (partial basement, really, as half the unit was below ground) by the front door. The front door is heavy and it's loud when it closes, very loud. If it weren't for my earplugs I wouldn't have been able to concentrate or sleep. Some of the other people staying at the hotel would have convos on the landing a few steps up from me and I could hear their conversations clearly, too, even if they weren't being particularly loud. Being on the first floor also seemed to put me where the housecleaning supplies were so I heard staff coming and going for that regularly. I don't know if that can be avoided and I probably wouldn't have minded had I not also been annoyed by the front door being so loud. Oh, and the unit's window was on ground level, as this floor is partially underground. And it looked out onto the path in front of the front door so I could see people coming and going from the hotel and they could look right into the room--if I had opening the blinds, which I didn't as I didn't want random people looking into my room. I like some sun so that was disappointing. I did get the cheapest level room when I booked and if the other rooms cost $30-$40/night more I don't know if getting a room here just because it had a kitchen would have been worth it. When you book make sure to ask for a room not near the front door and not on the 1st floor.

Andrew R.

Yelp
Superficially, the Nuvo is pretty good. Convenient location, parking, free calling and wi-fi, non-generic decor, and good service over the phone. Unfortunately when you look a little closer, it's not that great. The white painted floors get nasty immediately from your shoes, the coffee is crappy and stingy, there was only one robe, the outside stairs are lethally slick, the parking lot is awkward, everything is a little beat up around the edges, and people cooking in the other rooms, combined with ill-fitting doors and inadequate range vents, permeate the entire place with a weird funk. I'd say it is more like an expensive upscale hostel rather than a boutique hotel. We may stay here again because of the location, but we won't seek it out.

Sam H.

Yelp
Great value for money. Great part of town just outside of downtown core. I loved the fully furnished "eurpoean style' suites. If you want a view though, you have to pay extra to get a top floor. I was in town for a 2 day business trip, so this was perfect as its fully furnished, with a safeway and liquor store downstairs, so no need to rely on restaurants . No work desk however, this was my only negative finding. I will most definitely return here.

Erin T.

Yelp
Hmm. Ultimately a hotel is a place to sleep and this one was pretty good at that. And it was a reasonable price for being downtown. But I can't count the number of times that my friends and I (there were 7 of us in 3 rooms) said, "this is a really weird hotel..." - you pay before your stay - the rooms have numeric keypad entries like houses can have. So remember to lock your door when you leave! We didn't realize this initially - the suites with kitchenettes are handy, modern, but very ikea. - the rooms are incredibly hot. The little home sized air conditioning unit doesn't quite do the trick. - our shower plugged up and wouldn't drain on first use. I went down to front desk, they were very pleasant and said they'd send someone the next morning, that they couldn't switch us rooms because the hotel was fully booked. Understandable. At 2pm the next day someone came to look at our shower. Good thing I'd found the plunger labeled 'for shower/sink only' and fixed it myself because we had to be at a wedding by 3. - the morning of our checkout a woman knocked on our door at 9:30 to ask when we'd be ready to checkout. Well, considering checkout is 11, probably around then. (Our room was missing its 'do not disturb' sign). So. We had a fine time. The TV worked and the beds were comfortable. It did the trick. But we probably wouldn't stay again.

Alex B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay here. All of the rooms I stayed in were suites with kitchenettes and laundry. The decor was nice and the staff were friendly. Very reasonable price for what's on offer. Hotel Nuvo will be my first choice next time I stay in Calgary.

Robert E.

Yelp
This review is long overdue... When my friend comes to Calgary from Vancouver this is our place to stay. From the first day we stayed here over 2 years now, we have always received exceptional Service from Monique and Paul.. These two people know all about GREAT customer service. Monique is always ready to accommodate us when we need to be, our room is always ready for an early check in. Monique and Paul deserve an award for excellence:) Now for the not so good part of this hotel, which is minor and can be fixed. Th housekeeping staff do have to pay a little more attention when cleaning the room. WE stayed here a while ago and I noticed a spider web in the corner of the shower, I brought this up to Ellen. When we returned to the hotel a few hours later this spider web was still in the shower. I don't mind sharing the shower, but not with a spider. Another time I kissed the window and when we returned a few weeks later, my lips were still on the balcony window. Monique & Paul are the BEST at customer service

Anton S.

Yelp
so we stayed at the nuvo for five weeks spent $5000.00 the first 4 weeks the suite we were in had no working phone and the island almost fell on one of us I ended up having to fix it myself that same week one of our party was walking down the hall in yoga shorts when one of the staff decided it was his place to tell her how to dress and went on to say please put on appropriate clothing ?????? after that we went upstairs to a better suite 3 days in that suite at 230 am the same bell hop comes banging on the door talking about the damages in the last suite that weren't ours .... this place gets 1 star because I couldn't give them a negative rating oh ... I almost forgot we woke up one morning with our door wide open and the cash we had on hand was missing do yourself a service and go else where you wil l thank me for it

Richmond Y.

Yelp
I've been staying in Nuvo for the last 4 months for work and it had everything i needed. Nice studio room with a kitchen and a laundry. Nice modern furnishings, great location (near a lot of good eats). Front desk has always been very helpful. I would definitely come back if i come back to Calgary.

Brock R.

Yelp
This place sucks! My company booked me here, I landed in Calgary at 12am and couldn't get in. I had the code that the company had sent me and everything. Don't stay here....go to the Westin!

Blake M.

Yelp
Am here again, second week in a row. I gotta say I am impressed. Very nice room, tons of space, full kitchen. Safeway across the screen, liquor barn next door. Walking distance to where I'm working. And even though the parking is approx two blocks away, $15 a night for heated secure parking is very fair. Friendly staff comfy beds. Perfect for staying in Calgary for business. I will remember this place and stay here again for sure.
