The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest and most famous golf clubs in Asia and Sri Lanka. Originally established by British tea planters for their leisure, this course blends colonial charm with the breathtaking scenery of Sri Lanka’s hill country. The 18-hole, par-70 course stretches over 100 acres and sits 1,830 meters above sea level, surrounded by misty mountains and rolling tea plantations, creating a picturesque playing environment for golfers of all levels.
One of the club’s highlights is its authentic colonial-era clubhouse, still hosting visitors and members with traditional hospitality and a cozy, timeless atmosphere. Stepping inside, guests are transported back to colonial Ceylon, drawn in by the dark wood, charming decor, and stories of golfing heritage. The course itself features tight fairways, fast greens, and strategically placed hazards, making it both scenic and challenging.
Located in the heart of Nuwara Eliya town, the club remains a social and sporting hub, regularly hosting local and international tournaments, and events for both golf enthusiasts and travelers. With a blend of tradition, sport, and nature, the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is not just a place to play golf—it’s a living piece of history and a unique spot to relax and unwind in “Little England.” 🌱
