During our trip to Rhode Island on Memorial Day weekend, we were recommended to stop by this Portuguese restaurant. There was a wait line already when we got there, and it was approximately 35-40 minute wait before we were seated. The service is a bit slow, as it took some time for us to get the servers to take our orders, for the food to come, and for the check to come. The overall service was alright, and the food was just "Ok."
We ordered the clams with white sauce (garlic and butter) as a starter. The clams were okay in size (not big, not small). However, the big no for us for this dish, was that the garlic was completely burnt, so the butter sauce was VERY bitter. we tried to dip bread to soak the sauce in, but it was way too bitter even on the bread. We ate the clams and shook off the sauce, but this dish was completely ruined by the burnt garlic.
We ordered the oxtail over rice and potatoes (a special). The oxtail was fall-off the bone type meat, which was great for mopping up the rice. The sauce was really rich, maybe almost too rich. It was not salty, but it was rich for the dish. Overall, it was alright, not the most amazing oxtail dish. The sauce was overpowering and we were glad it came with rice, as it soaked in most of the richness, and softened it up a bit.
We also ordered the branzino. The branzino was perfectly charred and cooked. The fish was not fishy tasting, it was fresh. For me, it was a bit dry, and I didn't taste the sauce that it was cooked in.
