Our favorite restaurant in Viana Do Castello. Their daily special menu was In portuguese so we almost missed their crab dish (our translator app called it “shoelace…” lol) had we not seen the dish on a neighboring table. However main menu is in several languages, english included. We had some trouble communicating, but were thrilled with every dish we ordered. Each dish, all seafood was fresh, delicious and full of flavor, not buried in salt nor sugar. We ordered : Clams- the herb sauce was scrumptious and every clams was “clean” without any sand Monk fish - was in an interesting porridge/congee with safron we believe. The rice was perfectly done Cod fish with potato was in a red sauce Pulvo Octopus - seared perfectly Sardines- the smallest srdines we’ve had which is how i like them butl mmm bit too much vinegar but others felt it was perfect. Sea bass- w roasted brocolli and potatoes. Slight char & crunch to the skin which made it amazing.

★★☆☆☆ “O Pescador” certainly lives up to its name—catching our expectations and throwing them right back! The seafood was, inexplicably, very good. Too bad the customer care flopped harder than a fresh sole. • Scorching welcome: Main door wide open and air-conditioning off despite 34 °C outside. They only bothered to shut the door (and switch the AC on) after we politely pointed out that we were slowly roasting. • Mystery menu: Translated into five languages, yet each description reads like a hotel breakfast list—only the main ingredient, zero flair or detail. • Order taker on mute: Our server seemed allergic to sales pitches or smiles, unable to explain a single dish and as pleasant as a sea urchin. • Chef or traffic cop?: He emerged from the kitchen to micromanage table layouts (diners happily eating, by the way), whisk away dirty plates, and bark “Did you like everything?” in what can only be described as a threatening tone. When pressed, he finally admitted he was the chef—though he never set foot in the kitchen while we were there. • Paper linens: Tablecloths and napkins made of the same flimsy stuff you’d use for a picnic—hardly the luxurious touch you expect from an award-winning spot. Bottom line: The fish might sparkle, but the service leaves a foul aftertaste. If you’re into great seafood with a side of “do I even matter?”, this is your port of call. Otherwise, you’ll feel like you’ve been swabbed for nothing more than deck duty.

O Pescador, translating to "The Fisherman," is a renowned name among seafood enthusiasts in Portugal. With multiple establishments across the country, each location offers a unique dining experience that celebrates Portugal's rich maritime heritage. Ambiance and Setting Each O Pescador restaurant is thoughtfully designed to reflect its coastal surroundings. For instance, the Carvoeiro location is perched on a cliff overlooking Benagil Beach, providing diners with breathtaking sea views. Similarly, the Cascais branch is situated between the sea and the fish market, emphasizing its deep connection to the local fishing community. Culinary Experience The hallmark of O Pescador's menu is its emphasis on fresh, locally sourced seafood. A standout offering is the sea bass, often presented whole and grilled to perfection. Diners frequently commend the sea bass for its delicate flavor and moist texture, a testament to the chefs' expertise. Accompaniments typically include simple yet flavorful sides like boiled potatoes and seasonal vegetables, allowing the freshness of the fish to shine. Service and Hospitality The staff at O Pescador are known for their professionalism and attentiveness. They often present the day's catch tableside, allowing guests to select their preferred fish, which is then prepared to order. This personalized approach enhances the dining experience, making patrons feel valued and engaged. Wine Selection Complementing the seafood offerings is an extensive wine list, featuring a curated selection of Portuguese wines. The Cascais location, in particular, boasts a wine cellar with approximately 4,000 bottles and 500 different brands, showcasing the best of Portugal's viticulture. Conclusion O Pescador stands as a testament to Portugal's rich culinary traditions, offering diners an authentic seafood experience in settings that celebrate the country's coastal beauty. Whether savoring a perfectly grilled sea bass or exploring the extensive wine list, guests are treated to a memorable dining journey that honors the essence of Portuguese cuisine.

The atmostphere in the restqurant is quite friendly, they play music and they have a lot of decorations. The portions were massive and so good that even my brother who hates fish tried some. Not too cheap but worth it. I was gonna takr a photo of the desserts but i ate them before i remembered to take a photo 😓 They also had a fish tank with crabs and even blue lobsters

Great fish restaurant. Try the monkfish rice, by far, the best they have.
