As the city of Chicago getting a massive tourist traffic from all around the globe, Rosa J. and her hubby have decided to retreat themselves to Oak Park for some spring/summer fun.
We both like old-fashioned, historic bakeries around town, Oak Park Bakery is located less than a block south of the CTA Oak Park Blue Line station. Please exit the train station through the Oak Park Ave. side.
It's tiny place with some enticing cupcakes by the windows, along with cakes, cookies, donuts, and bread to make the entire bakery look like a heaven for sweet-toothed individuals!
We went with the quarter (1/4) pound of assortment cookies. You can hand-pick the varieties, but the nice young lady saved us some work by choosing the popular kinds for us. We paid less than $3 for eight (8) pieces of cookies.
They do have a minimum cap for using a debit or a credit card, which is $5. My recommendation is to have some cash on hand because I realized other items were reasonably-priced as well. There's a PNC bank ATM inside of the Oak Park Blue Line station if PNC is your primary bank or if you don't mind paying for the surcharge.
We munched couple pieces; they were pretty delicious. Those cookies might not look fancy, but there were one of the most down-to-earth things you could find in this country. Food with unpretentious embellishment, you can say it's old-spirited Americana.
I always enjoy visiting Oak Park, for her relative serenity and peacefulness the city of Chicago lacks on spring weekends. I bet I will be coming this way some time soon.
