On the Grid : Oak Room

"The Oak Room is a staple in the Back Bay. It's newly renovated aesthetic represent the new Boston; vintage inspiration and modern relevance. The bar is massive and the crowd is a mix of younger and older. They have great craft cocktails and farm to table food. Our favorite is their brunch." - Amalgam

This was my first time entering this establishment in the many months that I've heard it has been open. I've heard many stories/situations where customers felt that the owners/service here is biased and I got to experience this bias and poor service myself. A group of me and my friends decided to go out and do something fun after the NBA Championship Parade. We reserved a section and was told the minimum for a section was to order a bottle. The bottle girl shown below came to us and told us the minimum for a section was $500 we explained to her that was not what was told to us at booking. The bottle girl then tells us she'll be right back and never returns. Another bottle girl nicely came over and asked if everything was okay and she'll take care of us. We ordered a bottle and hookah and after that nobody ever came around to check on us or see if we wanted to order anything else the rest of our time there. For an event that was promoted from 2pm to 8pm we were shocked that at 5pm the DJ starts yelling over the mic that it was over and everyone needed to leave. Again the first bottle girl that tried to "scam" us came back to our table, didn't say a word and aggressively grabs our half filled bottle and hookah. We stated to the bottle girl that wait a minute pls we have not finished our bottle, she then responds I don't care I'll pour it in a cup for you. This is when we all became very upset and just in shock that this was happening because there were many sections filled with people still in it, many people still standing around but our table was the one being forcefully moved and attacked. As you can see below she takes the bottle that was at least half full to the back and shortly returns with a bottle that was basically empty and pours the remaining in a cup and goes to grab security to throw us out (which is pictured below). Security comes and says they are closed we have to go. After going back and forth with security we just simply tell them we just want to finish our bottle and we will gladly leave this establishment. we also told them if you guys state you're closed please make a lap around the club and enforce this with others that are still sitting and drinking by the time you come back we will be done. They refused stood there insulted us and things begin to get rowdy. The man pictured below states he was the "owner" but from his actions and service he acted in no way an owner would. Instead of diffusing the problem he came to insult, aggressively push the table out, shout in our faces, just acting belligerent. At a point he looked like he wanted to hit one of my friends I was with, another man/"partner" had to intervene and stand in between the 2 and tell him to leave. At this point we got up and started walking out, one of my friends who is an attorney nicely asks the "owner/partner" for his business information he responds "we don't have one". I just have to laugh, something that could of easily been solved turned into a humiliation show. I immediately thought of the allegations and rumors I've heard of the owners here and understood why they were acting and treating us the way they did. I'll never in my life recommend this place to anyone especially to any group of blk women. nor will I ever support any "local AA businesses" going forward. Been to many establishments, lounges, bars but this by far was the worst experience ever.

Excellent service real recognizes real, you gotta give respect to get respected. Love the low-key flower friendly atmosphere in the "Backyard". Keep the over 30 vibe going & growing. Respect the owners, management and staff and I'm sure you'll have a great night like I did. Remember we grown outside.

VERY unprofessional and uncomfortable experience at this establishment. From the moment we walked in, the staff—including the host, server, and even the owner—were extremely rude and dismissive. The OWNER threw the table, yelling, and creating an environment that felt more chaotic than welcoming. What was even more disturbing was the way they spoke to women crazy who were simply trying to enjoy their time. The attitude was aggressive, manipulative, and downright nasty. No one should be treated the way we were, especially when choosing to spend money at a business. This place lacks basic hospitality and respect. I would NOT recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant or professional experience. Spend your time and money somewhere that actually values its customers.

This by far was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a business in my life. The lack of professionalism from a particular waitress and the owner of the place who yelled in the faces of the ladies I was with was appalling. They (security and owner) singled out a table of all girls and forcefully removed us from the section we paid for and tipped on. A particular waitress had an issue with us when she tried to scam us for $500 for a table that we already confirmed with the owner how much the section would be. After that she had it out for us. I would like to start with how the section we paid for was for a day party that was from 2-8pm. The DJ stopped the music at 5:30pm and was forcing everyone to get out without an explanation. He stated the day party was over, however when it was discussed prior, the end time was clearly stated as 8pm. The said waiter then tried to take our items that we paid for with no warning. Only stating that “the party is shut down” however she only removed our items and no one else’s. When we tried to ask for our bottle back she then proceeded to call security to have us get out of the section that we were rightfully entitled to until 8pm as stated. The security then began to call us names, yell at us, and berate us and only told us to leave and no other section from the supposed shut down day party. The other sections were allowed to stay and enjoy their sections while we were targeted and were told we have to leave. The unprofessionalism, lack of appropriate communication, and discrimination towards the only all women section of women was disgusting and appalling. We heard stories from other ladies who had the same experience but decided to still give the business a try as we wanted to celebrate the first NBA finals championship for Oklahoma. We are all Oklahoma natives and have never experienced any type of treatment like this from any establishment in this city. It was truly disappointing to see that a business can treat paying customers like this and feel no issue with such. We only came to enjoy the music and the items we paid for and celebrate our beloved team. On top of all of that the service we got while at our table was horrible. We were never checked up on and never given the items we were asked such as water and napkins. This was my very first experience at Oak Room and will definitely be my last. Oklahoma has very limited spaces like this and to see business owners and employee’s act as such is truly disappointing and sad. I hope they work towards improvement in their customer service and treating all paying customers with equal respect and treatment.

We had the best time celebrating some birthdays! The music was great and the service was absolutely the best!! Professional and so personable, always checking on us and kept our waters filled without ever asking. We already made plans to go back next week!! Thanks Oak Room can’t wait to go back!!

I hardly ever write bad reviews, but my experience at Oak Room was exceptionally horrific and warrants one. My friends and I went to Oak Room for their advertised Day Party following the NBA Championship Parade. We bought a section, the required bottle of alcohol to secure it, and hookah. A party that was supposed to end at 8pm was ended with no explanation by the owners/DJ around 5/5:30 PM. They just gave a crude announcement saying that everyone needed to get out. My friends and I were gathering our things but we wanted to finish the bottle we ordered which was halfway full. The bottle girl that abandoned us when we first got there (because she tried to charge us $500 despite text message proof from the owners that disproved that), came out of nowhere and grabbed our bottle with no word to us. We tried telling her that we wanted to finish the bottle we paid for since our time got cut short prematurely. She rudely insisted that she would take the bottle and pour it in a cup for us. When she comes back with the cup, there was significantly less alcohol left and brought security to kick us out. Never in my life have I experienced such aggression, rudeness, and blatant targeting from a club’s management. They refused to hear our side of the story as customers and instead began screaming and cussing at us to leave. Things escalated to the point where our table was grabbed by one of the men and aggressively thrown out of the way. To make matters worse, as I look around the club—no other section was being forced to leave. Everyone else in the other sections were still sitting down with their drinks still on the table. I cannot help but think because we were the only section of all darker skinned Black women that something like this could happen. Even in a misunderstanding, why as the customer are we being met with aggression instead of conflict resolution from management. I am still in shock about our mistreatment and will never give my business to Oak Room again.

If you’re looking for a chill spot with great vibes and a grown, upscale atmosphere, Oak Room OKC is it. They don’t serve food, but if you’re coming for bottles, hookah, and music, you’ll be more than satisfied. The staff was attentive, the bottle service came out quick, and the hookah hit smooth all night. The lighting and layout make it perfect for small groups or even a solo unwind. Definitely one of my go-to spots when I want to dress up a little and enjoy good energy without the chaos of a packed club. Highly recommend if you’re in OKC looking for a laid-back but classy vibe.

Happened to be in town for the NBA finals and went to Oak Room to celebrate with the city. Unexpectedly got to see some of the players. Being in this space with the crowd heightened the experience. Chatted with the owner who had a warm welcome. Group of black females who was shown a great time by all we came across while in the building. Keep it going because when in OKC again I will definitely stop in. And will be recommending to others. Thank you for a great time in OKC Oak Room!!!!
