After a recent stay at The Oaks Port Douglas, I cannot recommend this resort to anyone expecting good customer service, good hygiene, and an overall good time.
We (a family) booked a two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment, which we received, but it did not include breakfast or housekeeping, as we knew.
On arrival, we were told they would include a mid-stay service—amazing. On that day, housekeeping came in, emptied bins, replenished coffee, and took the bath towels. However, they did not sweep the floor, make the beds (which were tidied before we left for the day), or replace the bath towels.
We went down to reception to express our dissatisfaction, only to be told that (from mid-January) it is the off-season, so there is minimal staff and a towel shortage. Three times I had to ask for bath towels that day, only to be given two for three of us.
Upside to the resort:
Removed from the main street but a shuttle is available for a fee.
Great parking.
Great price point!
Downside:
The pool was not refreshing and more like bathwater.
The pool bar has limited hours and no poolside service, so glasses remained on tables and poolside all day.
Pool towels are extremely rare; wash and reuse yours.
Pre-book breakfast; otherwise, you will be charged $5 extra per person for walk-ins.
The dinner restaurant menu is very minimal unless you like pizza.
The bed in the master bedroom was the oldest, squeakiest, and softest I have ever experienced.
The overhead kitchen cabinet posed a safety risk as it was loose and about to fall off the wall.
No broom and only a dustpan which was stored in the kitchen dish rack!
