Perfect location for events in Townsville. Close to Queensland Country Bank Stadium. It’s at the end of the food and entertainment hub of Palmer St making it the ideal place to stay a few nights. Our room had a large fridge, double hot plate, microwave, jug, toaster, so simple cooking would be possible. The room was also equipped with a washer and dryer. Some features were a bit worn/tired. The pleather chair was peeling and the paint under the air conditioner was coming off - likely due to having leaked over time. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the shower was great. Our room had a balcony the looked over Townsville to Castle Hill. There’s also a gym and pool for guests.

Smelly room, broken TV, no service, rude staff We travel on business every second week and visit Townsville three or four times a year. This was our first and last time staying at Oaks Hotel Townsville. From the start, the service was extremely poor. Upon entering the room, there was a bad smell coming from the bathroom. No water bottles or complimentary water were provided. The TV didn’t work, which we only discovered late at night. There was no room service, so if we wanted water or to change rooms, we had to go down to reception ourselves. The night manager spoke from behind a drawn blind, forcing us to bend down and speak through a small gap. The whole experience felt dismissive and unwelcoming. Overall: exceptionally poor service and poor quality. We will never stay here again and will take our business elsewhere. Im future we will be travelling to Townsville around ten times a year, and this property will not be on our list. I have requested a refund — let’s see what happens.

Can't wait to leave, 4 days to go.|Supposedly an updated room? No rail or hangers, had to be installed the next day. New in room phones do not work, so have to use your own phone to contact reception, had the phone taken away as it took up space on side table.|TV shows casting thru the inhouse system but with our room it seems that if the neighboring room is using it then we lose access.|Room has cook top and microwave (not a new micro to go with the refurbishment), there were no microwave cooking vessels (apart from small dinner bowls) to use, it took housekeeping 2 days to come back with items that were not suitable for microwave and had no lids, we brought our own.|Utensils very basic in the kitchen and still waiting after 4 days to have the egg spatula replaced after it broke.|Haphazard room servicing each day, somedays rubbish not removed (I had to complain), milk replaced once in 10 days.|Bathroom moisturiser empty day 5 , after asking and leaving notes for 4 days and then telling reception I thought I was being led along and I did not believe that they had any replacement I finally got some small bottles. It does seem they do not have the bulk refills to service the rooms even though one of the room service ladies told me to my face she had filled it up.|Vacuuming is hap hazard it happened on day 2 but not thereafter.|3rd floor room faces back of hotel above the delivery alley, so during the mornings you have to put up with truck engines running and exhaust fumes rising so you have to shut your balcony doors. As mentioned by a previous person no screens on the door so you get mozzie bites. Glass on balcony has not been cleaned in a long time.|Fridge did not have any of the door storage units for bottles so the service man was able to get one (not two) from a unit he had in store, he also fixed the hanger space the day after we arrived (for a 14 day stay). Our supposed refurbished room has a fridge with large indentations in the freezer door so not really a refurbished room.|Our washing machine/dryer units are good, but the cupboard space is about 50mm to shallow as you have to force the doors to close over the handles of the 2 units.|In the kitchen the cutlery is mismatched and looks like it a collection just thrown together, that includes the cooking items, hence the broken spatula.|Each day we come back to the room we are wondering what has not been attended to such as not leaving new tea towels and washing/dish washing packs (yes this is very spasmodic)|We even had to chase up a replacement toilet roll one day.|I did send Oaks HQ a note re some of the above but no one has replied.

3rd floor room is right above the delivery point for the hotel in front and every day there are delivery trucks parked, engine's running leading to exhaust fumes and compressor noise ruining balcony time as well as not being able to have our door open. Our renovated room has a washer and dryer but you have to be careful when closing the doors that you don't jam your fingers in them. When we arrived they had not installed the hanging rail in the small opening for clothes this had to be done the next day. The TV employes an in-house casting system that means you have to have an higher end phone to use it. There are the bare minimal items to use on the stove top and no microwave cooking vessels, we had to buy our own. 4 day's after advising the front desk of this problem someone came up with 2 microwave items that still were not suitable. We did ask for some scissors as well, these came but we were expected to use them straight away and give them back,I explained that we needed them each day for opening breakfast items. It is a reasonable walk into town and there are a number of eateries on the way. The pool is relatively unusable as it is located in full shade most of the time as right on the office area and delivery lane,no privacy. Also the in-house phone is not working as yet and the on screen tv room menu doesn't work. Day 10 of our visit, we have asked 5 time to have the hand cream dispenser in the bathroom filled up and been told to our face it has been done or will be done only to have to ask in a demanding way to let me know if they are out of it or FILL it up, we came back from a walk to find several small containers of hand cream, so they lied 5 times about doing the job. Just when you thought things could not get worse. Today Wednesday have had to have our balcony door closed ALL morning due to truck deliveries at the Hotel in front, so noisy on the 3rd floor. Still no replacement spatula after 4 to 5 days.

Went for a weekend lunch. Great atmosphere but the setup behind the bar is not great. Takes so long to get a drink because ordering meals and them making coffee behind the bar. I feel like if it was set up with ordering meals away from the bar and getting rid of the coffee machine would make service flow so much better

Had an Executive Studio Suite 1001A with amazing views of Castle Hill, the water and Maggie Island. Rooms were clean and modern with soundproofing, black out curtains, microwave, cooking stove, washing machine and dryer. Lovely staff and I enjoyed chatting to the guests. Really liked dipping in the swimming pool at the end of the day. Location is great. Lots of places to eat and get coffee at down Palmer St. I highly recommend this hotel.

I've stayed here a few times for work. It's a bit hit and miss. The good things are the location (handy for access to meals, walks etc). I've found the bathrooms that have an external window are usually cleaner. The ones that don't have an external window can be quite grotty with mould. There are security issues too. Another, intoxicated, guest was able to gain access to my room while I was asleep at night using their own keypass. This was quite a frightening experience and almost a month later, I'm yet to hear back from the manager about this one. The wifi is a bit laggy at times too and struggles to load. This also affects the TV reception. As a no-frills crash pad the property is acceptable.

The only things good that I can say about the room was it had a great view ( from the 8th floor) and a decent shower. The room was ready to needing a refurb but just a thorough clean would be good. There was eggshell all over the carpet around the bin when we arrived, still there 3 days later. The Tv didn’t have enough signal to work most of the time and the free high speed internet kept falling out. Room was full of fumes from some sort of adhesive, which gave us headaches. Bed was most uncomfortable, no instructions for any equipment, too many things to list. I went to reception with many complaints on the first morning of which only one was dealt with. This place has put us off staying at any of the Oaks establishments in the future.
